Collectors Edition
« on: January 04, 2008, 04:06:50 pm »
Hiya,

Im a filthy pirate and  am enjoying this game very much (word of mouth is spreading!).

Put me down for a collectors edition if its got the soundtrack in it and some lithographic images, I can frame for my walls. :)

Some people prefer a little art book, but I prefer to actually put good lithographs to use. But thats just me, a small art book might "sell" your product better. Best talk to a publisher who knows about this stuff. I imagine lithographs are cheaper to produce and make though!

Would love a little action figure like the collectors editions of Alien Hominid.... but the above is good enough.

Dont waste your time on clothing in it like certain CE Editions of games.

For packaging please make it look professional and not gimmicky like a treasure chest or something. Better to spend money on a nice rectangle wood box then it is to waste on a tacky shape.

Before fans jump down my throat and say I should support them now, there right I should. But piracy happens for anything of quality, and to be honest, I would never even intended on spending the extra money buying a collectors edition if I hadn't pirated it first.

"The biggest threat to an artist isnt piracy its obscurity. Making money from popularity isnt an enormous leap." - Mark Pesce

Wha.. has anyone official said ANYTHING about releasing a hard version? I know Alec has mentioned a hard soundtrack but I didn't think they had any plans at all for a standard hard version of the game let alone a CE with mass produced extras inside.

Both devs have said they really really really want to do a collectors edition sometimes.

And we all want one :D

I really hope that you do end up supporting the creators, specially when you want them to work more on bringing out a collectors edition. I'm not flaming you, just stating the obvious that you should support them before they support you, specially since you've already been enjoying their creation.

 ??? :-X :-\

I don't get it. You pirate indie games and you're trying to plug manifesto games? How does that work.

Somehow I imagine your favorite sport is shooting fish in a barrel.

I think its more the lack of people supporting the game that will prevent a future release.

But hey, we're a company, and people vote with their wallets. The main message I'm getting right now is that people want us gone.

Wrong! You guys have had the patience to develope this game over two years and a lot of us have had the patience to wait for it. I'm sure patience is going to be required for profits. Specially for an indie game, where the developers don't have a huge wallet to pay for advertising. I'm doing my part in spreading the word. Maybe more publicity would be good. To bad television is so expensive for advertisments.

Anyways, don't give up on us, and we won't give up on you.

Hi! I've never met you before.

Just wanted to pop in to say that I pirated your game. I'm also really proud of that fact! So proud that I created a forum account and made a public post about it!!

Anyways, if you want to see any money from me, make a collectors edition to my exact specifications, and then I (may) buy it! Maybe!

Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!

P.S.

http://manifestogames.com is a cool site where you can go to buy games.

I would say that deserves a ban, account deleted and removal of all post on the forum. This doesn't need more spreading, it's like free advertizing for him, and it's like saying that it is okay for anyone to pirate because "it's going to happen regardlessly."

Alec, I'm really not very empathic so do you think you could possibly clarify if you are actually kidding when you are acting up?

If so, I'm sorry to say I don't get it but that's just my problem.

I honestly don't mean to disrespect you or anything, I'm just wondering why you seem to jump at people posting (arguably) badly-worded criticism and now this piracy thing. Sure, you have every right to be pissed about it but I can't see any reason for the "i can't believe i wasted 2 years of my life working on this crap" - theatrics. What media coverage you've had has been overwhelmingly positive and even though some people are expressing dislikes around here there's at least 10 posts of praise for every negative one. Short of the the sales figures and any personal correspondence between you and other individuals (that I don't know anything about), I can't see any reason for why you'd let it get to you so I'm just interested.

Why do you let my posts get to you?

Could it be that every person is an individual who reacts to things in their own way? :o
