This is the obligatory thread to introduce yourself to the forum. What's your name? Where do you come from? And include at least one fun fact about yourself! Or not. :-X
I'm Derek, one half of the Bit Blot team. I'm a dude, I'm Chinese American, I'm 24 years of age, and my hobbies include drawing and being a good role model to animals.
Fun Fact: This (http://www.hku.hk/tennis/derek.html) is NOT me!
-
Simple enough;
I'm Daniel, I've been following Derek's work since Diabolika 2, in the Blackeye days. I'm from Israel, 21 years young and pretty much loves to party.
Fun Fact: I've served in the military for three awful years, now I'm done with it... Which is the fun part.
-
I'm Lorne Whiting.
Fun Fact: I'm one of the editors at TIGS that never posts. Probably since that's where I get all my gaming news.
-
i'm ryan,
i like horror, games, horror games, and comics. derek has slept on my floor, and i have seen him in his undies. x2. i also am 1/2 of the manga scanlation/news site samehat.blogspot.com.

Hello!
My name's Jason and I'm a 19-year-old computer science student. I like pixels, folding paper, and philosophy. I discovered Blackeye Software back when I was watching the Click scene. Snowbrawl was the first BES title I played. I used to try to make games... I shall start again when I have enough C++ skillz.

LMAO. I didn't know there was a giant potato moderator. I feel so embarrassed. Maybe I'll just be a miniature tomato instead. :)

I am Graham Goring, I produce a podcast full of filthy lies and also remake games when no-one is looking. Soon I hope to make some "original" games.
-
If you were to do that in a bedroom in England for the last time would that make you...
:o
-
I'm gonna' stay up real late tonight and program just so that I can sue them under the trades and descriptions act. ;)
-
Alright, I'm Eileen and I am Alec's favouritest little sister in da whoooole world!
Yup, that is right. That is I.
-
Hi, everyone. :) My name is Tom and I came across Derek through Pixelation. If you like games and drawing it's a no brainer to like Derek's work. ;p
-
Hi,
I'm 25 years old and from Germany. i'm one of the Pix-Fus (Dereks other forum) and since Eternal Daughter a whole-hearted fan of his work.
Fun fact: This is the first post in my whole live, which is posted from a Mac. Maybe the last to. ;)
-
I'm Steve, I'm from the UK, and I just stumbled across this site and game randomly. I have to say I'm waiting with quite some anticipation for this to come out!
-
Lo, my name is Simo. It might sound pretty awkward to you, as finnish usually does.
Im 18, studying to become a baker...oh, and lazy.
I stumbled upon this site from IGF.com, and i have to say that Aquaria sounds like the most innovative game ever.

Hello!
I'm Jenna, I'm 24 and come from the south of England.
Fun Watery Facts: I am the voice of Naija in Aquaria. I will not eat anything that contains fish as I can't stand the stuff. I used to have couple of goldfish when I was little named Chip (how original), Haylie and.... Billy Goat Gruff. Anyway they have all gone to the big fish tank in the sky now, but they will live on through Aquaria lol.

So now every time you post, I'll read it in a British accent.
-
Are there any samples we can hear on the voice acting? I'm curious now. :P
-
There may be a new trailer on the horizon, that among other things, features more of the voice acting...
... but what would I know about that.

Jenna! ;D

It's sad really. <ost goldfish have a life expectancy of around 6 months in glass jail. The bigger the tank the longer it's life. ;)

Then you haven't seen the Goldfish around here. They refuse to die, even if they live in brown water, have a cat that looks at them all day and have been BOILED once... yes... BOILED. They just won

Lol, whoops, I introed myself via a new topic in the Aquaria section.
Anyways, I'm torrentpilot (torrent for short) and, well, I guess you can get a good idea of where I'm coming from by looking in that section.
oh, I'm from Florida, live in Georgia, I'm 21, and I am a philosophy major.

Forgive my manners. I'm the Land Whale from Malaysia.
I've been to Canada once. I really missed those Krispy Kreme donuts. Damn!
Just to let you know you have a fan in Malaysia!

I think they are pretty much going for global domination, looks like there's people for different parts of the world.

Hey, I'm SBKT from another forum and I tend to be a real jerk there. Newbie trauma, etcetera. I'll be nice this time.
I'm from some site called International Friend Code Alliance. The owner said HEY THIS LOOKS AWESOME, so I checked it out, and was like, Wow, and said, I gotta join, and, yeah.
Hi.
-
Let's see, introducing myself...my name is Marco but everybody tends to just call me BGS, I first found out about Aquaria when I visited GameTrailers yesterday. I'm 20 years old (will turn 21 in 15 days ;) ), and I've had a lot of forum experience being a mod of the #1 Zelda fan site/forum on the net (ZeldaUniverse.net). Ok, sorry for plugging ZU, but it's a little fact that I'm proud of ;D I'm originally from the Dominican Republic (moved to the U.S. when I was 2.5 years old) and right now I'm living in Boston (w00t!).
Fun fact: This (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/BigGoronSword/Zelda%20Universe/Photo7.jpg) is what I look like and my favorite color is green.

Heya guys
I'm Jumpei, 24, from Portugal, found out about the Bit Blot forum at Derek's blog and decided to join.
I'm an illustrator at a local company, although my real dream is to become a comics artist.
I have huge passion for good old 2D game artwork, manga and just about everything that deals with nonsense, escapism and fantasy.
Rock on folks.

I'm xander. I come from the IV forums in peace. Hi, shineygerbil.
I teach computers in an elementary school, run a small fencing academy in Reno, Nevada, and like to spend time with my wife. I came to these forums to find out if there was going to be a Mac version. Since the devs seem open to the idea, I think I will stick around for a while. Is there somewhere that I can wipe my feet and hang my coat and hat?
xander
-
Heh, got here before you, xander :)
I'm sure your post count will skyrocket before long, especially if a Mac version is forthcoming!
-
I'm Ian, I'm the younger, hipper brother of Alec. I helped out a (tiny) bit on Aquaria, and I've made games with Alec in the past (nim-2 anyone?) I made the watermanstudios.com website a while back and animated a trailer for episode 8. I also wrote a webcomic back which I've been too
busy awesome to update (http://www.ninj4comic.com (http://www.ninj4comic.com))
...and yeah. That kinda sounded like a resume. But Aquaria IS pretty fun, so you should check it out when it comes out =P

Good day,
my name is Bart, I'm 24 years old and from the great little country that is the Netherlands. :p
I want to make games, but I'm still not sure in which field of expertise I will specialize in. I've composed a couple of short songs for guitar, and at the moment I'm alternating between animating sprites and teaching myself C++.
I've been busy with animating a spider(maybe not the best thing to start off with, but it's coming along very nicely I think) and learning pointers. Teaching my brain to accept and handle the this keyword and such.
I also play guitar(mostly classical) and listen to all sorts of music; from classical composers to death metal, and from triphop/ambient to breakcore(whatever defines Venetian Snares).
Thank you for reading,
Bart

Hey,
My name is Thomas Grochowiak and I'm starting indie game developer myself. I'm studying Polish literature, while trying to share the free time between my lovely girlfriend and my working on my project.
Currently I'm finishing a sort of original strategy game about magical duels - you can chaeck it on www.getmagi.com (http://www.getmagi.com) if you like.
I've came to this website after checking the info on the IGF awards on some shareware-related journal. I must say that I'm most impressed by what I saw. I know how hard it is to create a game with limited resorces and team and Aquaria seems to be an awesome production. Thumbs up for you guys.
Games like this really make me hold some hope in the indie games developments - you won't see such beautiful creations developed for the AAA marke this days.
-
Sup.
I just noticed this company after IGF last week, but from what I see you guys are doing awesome work. Just the trailer was enough to make me want to buy Aquaria.
I'm an indie developer, going to college for Computer Science. Feel free to check out my site, www.indreams-studios.com (http://www.indreams-studios.com). Not much there though, we're an unmotivated company I guess you could say. :P
-
I'm Winsoft.I am from Shanghai China.I am also an independent game developer and I attended the IGF2007 too.The link is: http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entries2007.php?entry_id=82.
This simulation game gives you a chance to drive rover to explore Mars. You could search for some valuable thread objects, such as sphere-like grains or "blueberries", regarded as the proof of water on Mars. You could get the news thread only if the rover contacts the objects. Then you could send these news to the earth,NASA will pay you back as a reward.
My favorites include movies and games and everything containing design elements. My MSN Account is chinagameproducer2004@hotmail.com. Nice to communicate with you!

Heya all,
I'm Delphy. You probably don't know me from such sites as Relicnews (the forums for Relic Entertainment, of Company of Heroes, Dawn of War and Homeworld 1 and 2 fame), or ModTheSims2 (one of the largest sims 2 modding sites on the planet).
I've modded a lot of games in my time, written tools and game engines and generally like innovative and inspirational things but I get bored easily. :P
I came here via the defcon site and blog, loved the trailer, and voila. :)
-
Hi.
I'm Geoffrey Fendall from New Zealand (I think I'm the only one here from so far, right? 8) )
I'm 15 but I feel that I have a really mature mind. I'm advanced a year at school and I like comics (manga), anime, games and such.
I'm also a wanna be game maker but I'm still just learning some stuff. (Right now I'm using the MMF2 demo)
I came across Aquaria because of Eternal Daughter ^-^ Great game that.
Did I forget to mention I am a guy? ;D
-
Hey, y'all! Name's Kal, I'm from the Boston/Dallas area. I really can't wait for this game to come out, it looks fantastic. May takes too long to get here. XD
Good luck to you both, Alec and Derek! Keep at it!
-
Hi!
My name is Javier L
-
I know a guy from Murcia! :D
-
Really? Where did you met him?
-
He was my housemate in south London for about 3 or 4 months. Nice guy, I still have his email address somewhere, I should get in contact with him :)

Hey, there are monkeys in Brazil! They, like other New World monkeys, have prehensile tails, unlike Old World monkeys, which do not have prehensile tails.
xander
-
I know there are monkeys in Brazil, I just meant it wasn't a society of monkeys you know. Most people think that Brazil is just a giant forest.
-
Nah, brazil is bigger than the USA (without Alaska), of course we know where it lies, who lives there and which language you speak. :) Your English is super!
-
Haha, you have no idea how glad I am to know that there's people like you guys in the world. :D
-
I'm Luke Toomey. I'm a 23-year-old struggling illustrator (struggling to the point that I tend bar to cover my comics bills) from northern England. I've been following Derek's work since the early early Blackeye days; I think about nine or ten years ago? I'm also a mod over on Pix Fu.
I like being completely excellent.
-
I'm Pisketch, found this game through Ambrosia's Progress page, and i must say it looks AMAZING. Looks like a fun ride. I'll enjoy playing this when i can.
-
PiSketch! Hello!

Hey xander. I was really very amused to see you here, I think I've seen you post on almost all of the boards I visit.

Hey xander. I was really very amused to see you here, I think I've seen you post on almost all of the boards I visit.
That's funny, because I only post here, on the ASW boards, and on the IV boards. Trying to keep a finger on the pulse of indy gaming for the Mac. ;)
xander

Huh. Could have sworn i saw you on one of my Webcomic Forums...

FUN FACT: I'm fucking nuts... cashews. But I'm so DC, like fat shoes. I skate away... like, "Later, Dudes!" Never get caught baby; I'm mashed potato smooth.

I'm mashed potato smooth.
Heretic! Mashed potatoes should be lumpy!
Um... hello, too. ;)
xander
-
Uhh, Mashed Potatos should be smooth. And creamy.
They should look and act lumpy, but they should be creamy to the mouth. Foo.

Shooooook!
How did you find me?! 8)
-
Hi! I'm Keith. I registered quite a bit ago, but didn't get around to posting until today :)
I'm 26, from Simi Valley, CA, and currently work in customer service. I like to write stories, though I haven't been doing so lately. The last thing I really want to do after I get home from work is spend even more time in front of a computer screen. I still find time to visit a slew of webcomics and post on a few different forums (mainly game related and such).
I've also been a gamer for a number of years, switching between PC and console games sporadically.
-
Hello!
And... erm...
I like games!
-
'Lo, I'm Patrick. I like games and music and stuff. I'm from Saskatoon, Canada. Aquaria looks super amazing; I've been sort of looking at it since GDC, but I hadn't heard of any of the stuff you guys did before that. I'm still going under the assumption that my PC will actually be able to run Aqauria when it come out. ^-^
I went to Japan about a month ago, that's sort of a fun fact. Definitely plan on going back there as soon as possible.
-
Hello!
And... erm...
I like games!
Xocrates! You're here! Hello!
xander

Hey xander, you don't happen to play vendetta online?
I saw a name very close to yours there. Just thought I'd ask ^_^
-
Hey xander, you don't happen to play vendetta online?
I saw a name very close to yours there. Just thought I'd ask ^_^
Nope. And there are many, many xander's out there. It is a really common name. You will know me by the lowercase letters, and the biplane.
xander
-
What makes the name so common?
-
What makes the name so common?
Um... demographics? I don't know... It might be related to the fact that, in the year in which I was born, Alexander was the number one name for male children in the US, and the fact that Alexander has always been a popular name, and that Xander is a diminutive form of Alexander.

Heya! I just wanted to register and say I have been checking for this game pretty much every day now, and will buy it as soon as it comes out. The very second if possible. I haven't been this excited about a game release since DROD 3.0! (Granted that was two months ago, but still.)
I also wanted to say, nice smilies you got here.
-
My name is Giovanni Medina, i'm 18 and I live in New Castle, Delaware. I like to draw whenever I have an idea burrowing into my brain. Umm..I would love to make video games at some point of my life, hopefully in my 20s.
-
My name is Al King, hence the nick. I'm from Australia, and as you may/may not have gathered, I'm a hectic spammer over at the IV forums.
EDIT: Gesso - I beg to differ. Brazil is clearly populated by monkey civilisation.
-
My name is Wesley. I'm from Belgium.
Online I am also known as profoX.
I am 18 years old and a full time linux user (and active contributor to the Ubuntu project), but also a gamer.
I am lucky that all the games I like to play have a native linux version, and the one that doesn't (soldier of fortune 2) runs very well in wine.
That's why I am hoping that a linux version will be developed for the upcoming Aquaria game. Or that it will be optimized to run on wine as good as possible.
Well, that's all I want to tell about myself right now :)
-
Dammit KingAl, you got me. I always try to hide it, but there's always someone too smart! I guess you used GoogleEarth or something. But yes, I'm a monkey. Now the truth's out there.
-
I am Dennis and i hail form the not so democratic republic (not that its a really bad thing) of Singapore which is geographically located somewhat south of Malaysia, you'll have to squint at an atlas to actually find it.
FUNFACT Currently 19 and serving the military (2 years for every Singaporean male) but unknown to my commanders i also moonlight as an Internet dragon slayer and a graphical social activist.
-
Hello, my name is Guert and I'm a game designer who's relatively new to the indie world. I've been hanging around the TigSource forums for a while and decided to drop a visit to the Bit blot forums...
I'm really looking forward to Aquaria and have been checking the site for updates since the game won at the IGF.
Talk to you all later!
Guert
-
Hello!
The name is Oliver and I'm a dude from Germany, currently studying computer science at the University of Hannover. Aquaria caught my attention and I decided to drop by the forums and stick around while this beauty is in the makes. :) Kudos to the devs!
-
Oi, I am Mavrix, I live here in the USA. Anyhow, I don't know exactly how much information I can offer, I tend to be mysterious. ;D
Eh, hokay I'll cut the jokes. I am 14, use a Mac, even though it's as old as...well...not sure, is it AD or BC? I make graphics, poetry and engage in some writing of mine. Actually I know Zamzx personally. Anyhow I'll be hanging around for a while, aye?
-
Greetings fellow masses, I be he of whom not much can be written to his name. For now I am Kagenoku, and hail from the lands behind the hills of the rocky mountains, somewhere near a lake of salt. RPG games I have played but a few of those out there but I have played some of the classics, such as Legend of Zelda, and other notable games within the gaming world.
-
Hiya everyone!
I'm new here, been watching this game since IMG (InsideMacGames) posted a news about it.
I MUST say that I'm impressed by the quality and how fun the game looks!
So keep up the good work!
Now more about me... I've been playing lotta game, mostly known as Stalfos / Thala / Hyrkali, which are my main nicknames. My real name is Nickolas Simard.
I'm a french-canadian and live in Quebec. I'm 22 yo, almost 23, and I work as a web programmer, coding mostly PHP/MySQL, Javascript and CSS. So I usually do not have lots of free time. Before I start to lose my free-time, I was a GM on some MMORPG, did a lot of Role-Play writing as well.
That's about it!
See you!
-
Oh, here's an introduction thread. I didn't even think of looking for one. Oh well, here goes. Illithid here. An online compatriot pointed me to Aquaria over the summer, and I was pleasantly fascinated. As soon as the "SEVEN DAYS" announcement came out, I've been quite attached to the game and this site. Looking forward to it. :)
-
My name is Fr
edit: problems with accents, preview showed no problem with my posts.
My name is Frederick (people just call me Fred), and I am a computer sciences student (not exactly, but I don't know how to translate the name of my university's program which is in french). I also have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. I am french speaking and lives in Quebec, (Qc) Canada. I'm lurking on these forums since summer 2007, but I decided to post during the "7 days of Aquaria". If you find strange, incomplete post by me, it is because I mistakenly used a foreign character in my name that screwed up the rest of my post.
I found about Aquaria because of a link on a linux games forum.
-
Hello my name is Sten and I am a 22 year old programmer in Berlin/Germany.
I play games now and then because I don't have that much spare time but I love the games IV and Moonpod made and I'm watching the development of Aquaria only for a few months now. I even don't know how I came here ^^
-
hello. i'm new here and ripe for chit chat. and it seems to be a very diverse crowd here. so that's great.
give me the chit chat.

Hi, my name is not really Akhel and I've been an aquaholic for... wait.
Ahem.
I, too, come from the TIGSource forums. And, since the subject seems to have been brought up a while ago, I, too, hail from the crappy jungle country.
Anyway, does anyone know when is this game coming out?
-
Hey, i've been looking at this website every now and then for the past few months but recently got hooked on due to your 7 days annoucement!
REALLY waiting for aquaria to be launched soon *sigh*...anyway, this looks like a nice corner of the internet and i hope i fit in!
-
Hoi, my name is Eric.
I'm from germany and I'm 20 years old. I'm reading in this forum for a long time and since the 7 days release thing I decided to write in here too.
Games I like... metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy,Chrono Trigger, Star Ocean, Kingsom Hearts... oh yeah and Mario ^^
When I'm not playing games I'm riding on my longboard or advance my juggling and contact juggling skillz.
oh and - hello to everyone from Singapore and Malaysia - youre countries are the beautifullest I've seen so far. I went there a year ago and traveled along the east coast on my bike. Lovely Islands you got there^^
-
I just learned about this game not even an hour ago and after quickly downloading the demo I can already say that I'm in love. Hope to be getting the full version soon and you'll definitely see me around here quite a bit.
-
OK, RL my name is Jason. I've been an indy follower for years, mainly due to my love of the now inactive Home Of The Underdogs, which both advocated the under appreciated games of larger developers and also smaller indy games. I played Eternal Daughter years ago and loved it without even realising the same person was at work on Aquaria. I first became aware of Aquaria when saw it in the indy game display room at ACMI in the city of Melbourne Australia, where I live. Since then I've kept an eye on it, especially as my disillusion with mainstream recycling of games became more pronounced and so many best selling games seemed to feature the current year and the name of a sport in the title (Yeah, I'm looking at you EA). I watched, I waited, I played the demo. I bought it.
Fun Fact: I once tried to buy a barrel of monkeys to test rumoured fun value. Neither the monkeys nor I enjoyed it much. I think we both came away somewhat traumatised. As far as I know they still wander the bookstacks of the city library.
Fun Fact 2: (This one is true) My fave under appreciated game is Beyond Good and Evil
-
My name is Marius. I am (like eric monk) from Germany.
Im 18 years old, and I highly enjoy video games of all type.
Battlerager is my established nickname for all internet related stuff and any creative stuff I do.
My favourite console has to be the SNES, favourite games inlcude (but are not limited to):
- any Mega Man game (love the tight controls)
- Terranigma
- Secret Of Mana
- Plok
- Any Zelda game
- Europa Universalis 3
- Baldur's Gate 2
- Neverwinter Nights
etc. etc.
I never cared much about Indie games, basically because I don't think not being "mainstream" is not automatically better or worse or anything.
Well, to put it that way, I was simply not aware of Indie Games very much. There is (as with "mainstream games") a mix of good and bad games to be found, it seems. I remember that awesome SCHMUP "Jet's N Guns". Is that considered Indie too? Haha, whatever.
I am a composer and guitarist. Being quite the lousy guitarist, I focus more on arrangagement and writing most of the time.
I enter Dwelling Of Duels on a reguar basis, where I record my own rearrangagements of video game music. The results are mixed, but my passion and dedication to video game music stays ever strong.
(shameless plug: http://dod.vgmix.com/ (http://dod.vgmix.com/))
I can also be found at www.mysongbook.com (http://www.mysongbook.com), where I post music I have written in MIDI using Guitar Pro software.
That's it for now. ;)
-
Guess nows as good a time as ever to introduce myself ;D
Anyway, been here a while, and I'm overjoyed now that Aquaria's out.
I'm pretty into macs, so I'm anxiously anticipating the release of the mac port.
And to bring this to a close, let me just mention I'm from 'merica near Boston, and I hang around Bit Blots IRC forums.
Yeah... :o
edit: Oh yea, can't wait to take out some epic beast!

Hi my name is unimportant (you'd probably mispronounce it) I'm 16 (though you wouldn't guess it from the way I act) and I currently live in the US (I move around alot and in a year probably won't).
I like games, puzzles, writing short stories and just generally having fun. I am currently taking a course in "Computer Networking & Electronics Technology" and it has taught me to try to stay away from any job that has anything to do with networking (although the course is about alot more then the name suggests).
I've hung around TIGsource for over a year and that's how I know about aquaria.
3 Fun Facts!
1. The alias PNX/P.N.X./Pn ex has been in use by me for over 8 years. For some odd reason I've noticed an increasing amount of people that are not me using it recently.
2. I devour games, books and anything with a good story in it... and I really mean that, I completed (and by that I mean getting all the treasures and stuff) aquaria a couple of hours ago (roughly 3:30 pm) having bought the game on friday and downloaded it overnight. On saturday I started playing and got to the end with all the memories and 3/4 of the treasures.
3. I think I'm seeing a couple of familiar "faces" when I look around... Hi Xander!

Hey everyone, I'm uclaisthebest, and as you can tell from my username, I'm a pretty big (I stand corrected: VERY big) UCLA fan, and although I'm only 13 years old, I want to attend UCLA for college (btw, for everyone not living in the U.S., UCLA is a high-profile college with amazing athletics and is one of the top academic schools in the country).
I hail from the Free Lunch Design Forums, where fellow forumites Xiagan, Mush Man, and Crux are from. I found Aquaria in a topic started by Xiagan about a week and a half ago, and upon checking out the site and bit-blog (along with the trailers), I became instantly hooked and downloaded the demo a few days ago. I have one word so far: Amazing. I'm probably going to buy the game in the near future. :)

Graduate Monkey from Scotland, 22 and currently Games Industrying it up in one of the local companies. When I'm not making games I'm playing them. When I'm not playing OR making games I'm probably making music. Won a BAFTA (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7058670.stm) for making a game wherein you must Rock your Enemies to death in musical combat (Sadly possibly won't reach the public, Team's more-or-less disbanded. Demo's up but good luck getting the darn thing to run :p It wasn't particularly well tested)
Fan of pretty much any type of game that is in any way "Good". Level 70 Warlock on Warcraft (Stopped playing a while back), Used to belong to a community of Sonic Fangamers (People who made indie games based on Sonic the Hedgehog) aaages ago.
Have a website, but it's not finished. Or even started. In fact currently it's pretty much a Flash menu I don't like :p
Have many favourite games, many of them are considered "Underdogs" (Um Jammer Lammy, Space Channel 5, Beyond Good and Evil, etc)
-
Hello, I am Andrew, aka Zixinus. I live in Hungary and 17 years old. I like nuclear engineering and... allot of other stuff. I write stuff.
Video games I liked: Psychonauts, Anachronox (well, until the part until it got a little too silly, like having a planet as a companion), Beyond Good and Evil (although, it never actually got beyond good and evil), Zelda 3 (the SNES version) and... breakout.
-
Hey, I'm LFF/Elefef, I live in England and I've wanted to get Aquaria for ages, hopefully I'll get it on Christmas Day.
I play several types of games, but mostly adventure, rpg and rhythm.
My favourite games are Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Aquaria, Gitaroo Man, Guitar Hero II, Rhythm Tengoku, Super Mario Galaxy, Bomberman, most of the Final Fantasy games, Phoenix Wright, Monkey Island and I'll stop here before I remember all the other 100 to list here :P.

Hi, I'm new...
And I can't really think of much to say about myself.
-
Hi. My name is Aaron. I speak Spanish and English, and mostly I'm a nerd. My favorite band is Rush and my favorite book is Red Mars. I'd rather play Final Fantasy 6 than 7, and I'd rather play Mass Effect than Baldur's Gate.
-
Hey everyone, my name's Tom aka IceD (most of friends on the scene call me that) and I'm a 20 year old struggling computer science student (call me nerd, if you want) from Poland, trying to reconcile my life between my passions, duties and studies ??? I love computers, games, games & games, plus art, good books, sci-fi and fantasy. It's hard here in our country last days, but I'm not going to blame for the overall situation, because it's not the way... Art, computers and games are the things that hold me alive. And yes, I want to create games and make art in the future, if I just have a chance... I was following Derek's moves from quite a long time, so it was obvious that sonner or later will get in touch with Aquaria. And I have to say this one more time - outstanding work! People like Derek and Alec still make me fill we have a chance in this world to make our dreams come true...
Currently, I'm working on a fantasy comic called "Road to Eternity" (here's some teasers, for what things will look like, if you're interested):
http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Eternal_watchmen_by_Luna-89.jpg (http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Eternal_watchmen_by_Luna-89.jpg)
http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Felidian_lady_midday_by_Luna-89.jpg (http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Felidian_lady_midday_by_Luna-89.jpg)
http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Felidian_race_concept_by_Luna-89.jpg (http://www.icepit.yoyo.pl/Artwork/Felidian_race_concept_by_Luna-89.jpg)
The second thing is a indie game project called Antaris, which will be a exploration based action/platformer game with involving storyline and huge world to discover (Big thanks goes to Derek for inspiration! :))
My personal opinion is the games like Aquaria and other smaller productions should be the future of computer entertainment (hate this word), or we will just end upon games like Ut43 and Q24. And this would be really sad :(
Funny fact: Due to my duties my overall sleep counter doesn't reach 3-4 hours for a day. I don't know, how long will I hold with that, and don't know if I should laugh or cry due to this... :-\
And that's all, folks!

I am Kan. I just finished playing Aquaria demo and loved it very much! I found randomly from one of those videogame reviewing sites (gamesplot or whatever that was) ;). I'm from San Francisco and studying 2D and 3D Animation right now. I really want to be apart of making a game, Aquaria has inspired me to develop my ideas!
Recently beat Moment of Silence and Syberia II ( both very good!!!). I also love Okami and Shadow of Colossus. Series I like are Monkey Island, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda. I like many others, but Grim Fandango is my favorite.
Fun Fact: My fingers are double-jointed! so i scare people by pretending i broken my finger. >:D
Thank you Bit-Blot for creating a wonderful game! See you all around.
-
If you're in San Francisco, I recommend you check out a band called The Definite Articles if you get a chance. I seem to recall that they play quite a lot of gigs in the Modesto area. They're very, very good.
-
I've looked them up on YouTube! It's the violin and cello duo right? I'm very impressed! I'll be sure to try and catch their next gig. Thanks so much for the recommendation.

I know I'm probably interrupting something here, but I thought of something to say about myself.
I figure the best way to formally introduce myself is to just tell the truth about why I decided to join in the first place. So, here goes nothing.
I've been interested in computers for almost all of my short life. I loved using them for various things, especially video games, but now I'm beginning to realize that just using them isn't going to help me out at all.
After becoming more familiar with computers and video games, I began to contemplate becoming a video game designer, as many people probably do. I started out by taking a couple of basic summer courses on the subject, and as a result I was introduced to Game Maker. I played around with it for quite a while, but after a couple of years I decided, with some pushing from my dad, to move on to something more complex. I picked up a C++ primer and began to read it. I was incredibly interested at first, but after a while I began to lose my motivation. I never made it past pointers, arrays, and fuctions.
Then, after a couple of years, I managed to get a book from the library that specifically dealt with programming games in C++. I became excited, because I thought it would help me see the connection between programming and video games, especially since I had failed to comprehend how console-based programming would help me understand anything about modern computing, which in turn led to my lack of motivation. The book failed to teach me that much, however. It turned out that the book didn't mention certain key files that the provided compiler required. Destitute, I tried to search the Internet on how to fix the problem, but any help I did find was vaguely explained and unofficial. I eventually had to return the book, and in the end, I just gave up.
That was a few months ago, and this is where Aquaria comes in.
Two weeks ago, I was browsing an online gaming site when, in an update, I found a link to this website. Being curious, I clicked on it, and after a few minutes I was enthralled.
I'll admit it, the fact that the game's main character was an anthropomorphic sea creature wearing a strangely-designed one piece swimsuit threw me off at first, but when I actually began to read more into the game itself, I was spellbound. The amount of effort put into the game and the unique philosophy behind it: where emphasis is placed on discovery and self-realization, was fantastically intriguing. As I nervously searched for more, I was filled with wonder and excitement. However, I also felt terrible.
The entire experience awakened me to a concept I had been so foolishly blind to. Alec, Derek, and Jenna had put their heart and soul into something incredible, and in the meantime I had been a lazy idiot. Instead of becoming determined about learning, I had danced around the edges and given up when it became too hard. I was weak-minded, and the fact that it could be too late ate me up inside. I desperately tried to compensate for the time I had wasted by trying to finish the first C++ book I had gotten, as well as getting new ones, but I then realized something else. What would be the point of all this if I was just going to lose my motivation again?
That's why I came here. I figured it would be a long shot, but I'm going to try anyway. From what I could tell, the regulars here are friendly, and I figured that in addition to eventually getting the game and discussing it, I could also find some direction. I want to be able to continue the ideals of these great developers (without, of course, copying them), but I'm still held up because I'm an okay-but-not-great artist, I can't write songs or make music, I don't have a fancy-pants Animation Editor, etc.
I'm not asking Alec, Derek or anyone else to "take me under their wing", and I'm not posting something enormous in order to impress people. Either of those would be incredibly selfish and rude, and I'm fully aware that there's no chance I'm going to impress anyone with this long-winded essay (also, it's very obvious that I need a thesaurus). The very thought of doing either of those things disgusts me. What I'm (barely) hoping for is just some advice: What books I should read? What classes I should take? Heck, I'd even be ecstatic knowing if learning how to create video games is even possible for me with all the time I've wasted (even asking for this seems unbearably selfish and rude). I'm just tired of being knocked around between the positives and negatives of everything. And of course, I'd like to eventually purchase the game, discuss it, and have fun.
So, to summarize, I'm Michael. I'm short, shy, not very brave, and ambitious.
And if you're not interested, I humbly apologize for wasting time, space, and bandwith. I'm just going to sit in the corner, stick my fingers in my ears, and wait for the eventual explosion.
Oh, and one more thing: I'd like to say that I find Naija (and I suppose as a result, Jenna Sharpe) to be very intimidating, albeit in a subtle sort of way. And that's why I haven't played the demo yet. :o
-
I feel strange when I'm reading this... :o It seems so familiar, and the heck, it is! :)
Same with me. When I had read those modern books about game creating/programing, I felt more dissapointed than before. The internet haven't helped me either. But I feel this is an opportunity to us all. Because we dream to create, but not in a standard type of way. We want the freedom and this is all what about indie game creating is.
It's hard to call Naija an antropomorphic being. She's rather more a human than a animal. But I don't see a problem here, at least it's one game where we have a main hero character other than a human being. It just sucks when we have to see all game characters mostly being human, especially with comparision to imagination and invention put to create the games...
Anyways, welcome to the forum! glad to have you here ;)

From cave story, aquaira, synaesthete, savage, eternal daughter, last stand etc.... all of them he has purswadeed me into them.

Oh hey, a Introduction thread, Never saw this before. xD
I'm Alpha, I'm Dutch and I'm propably the most weird guy you'll ever meet, if you get to know me anyway. I'm 17 atm and more adult then most of my age (or above).
I like pretty much every game besides the typical FPS's, most race games and Demos.
I'm a guy of all things, am smart according to a IQ test, lack required social skills and have humor, seeing people laugh about/with me. I like to help people with stuff so don't be afraid asking. People can pretty much ask me anything, but Don't always expect a answer.
I found out about Aquaria through IGN.com and am glad I did, wonderfull game and very addictive.
Anyway, I'm glad I'm here and having lots of fun with the game and with modding it, I hope people will post some more on the forums, seeing we don't have that much activity.
EDIT: Sorry forgot Fun fact: I made a nude Naija mod. =D
Sup,
Alphasoldier
-
I'm 17 atm and more adult then most of my age (or above).
And yet you make that mod - your case is looking shaky, I've gotta tell you :P
-
Let's say I'm... Special... Yeah, that's it.
-
Hi, my name is Jin.
I love playing games!!! I guess that's why Im here...
-
Well, I don't think I belong to the target group as I'm 46 years old, danish and mother of two. But when I stumpled upon a recommandation of Aquaria and saw a screendump in the paper, I just had to download the demo and start playing. I realized, that it's not only the beautiful graphic that's appealing, the music and the story are, too. Half an hour later, I have bought the game.
Since then, I have to admit, my family hasn't been able to contact me from time to time - Mum is playing.
Great game. :)
-
Heh, that's cool. It always speaks for a game when it is played across "age-barriers" (and gender and country and ...). :)
-
Countries?
Well, I'm a 1.80 long nord who lives in Sweden. I live in a port-town called Göteborg, where I strangle whales for a living. Of course it isn't exactly a job, more like a hobby. ;)
You're not allowed to work until you are eighteen. BTW I'm 15...
*Small Spoiler* I think the main reason I got into Aquaria, was the fact that it could be possible to strangle whales. I got a little dissapointed when instead, I got swallowed :-\...
Fun Facts:
Have never completed an IQ test, short attention span, I guess :P
At least I have coupious amounts of social skills and a lot of humor, seeing as people always laugh at me. 8)
As a summary:
I'm Teppic, bold (moron without limits), brave (Too stupid to spell "DAGNER") and creative (Drugs. It's all drugs.)
-
If they laugh at you you're just stupid if they laugh with you you're funny.
Anyway, welcome to the boards. =p
-
Yah, I know that! ;)
-
Thought I should contribute:
My name's Caleb Gray, I live in Washington State, I speak French fluently, I'm a software developer (Ranging from ActionScript and PHP to OpenGL Shaders and C++), and I'm 4 months younger than my newly 21 year old wife, Amanda.
Fun Facts: I've made over 20 unique websites in the last 3 years, worked on over 200 sites, and have created 2 full fledged game engines and games (one in ActionScript/PHP, the other OpenGL/C++) over the last 4 years. This is my website: http://www.calebgray.com/ ... And the ad is of my wife. :)
-
Huh, much you've made in such a short time :) Wish I could be as creative as you, Caleb :)
Anyways, welcome!
-
Hi, I'm Jérémy, I'm 19 and I'm from France. I've discovered Aquaria there is 1 week ago, and i really love it. :)

Hi, everyone! ;D

Hi everyone !!! My name is Robin, also named Poupi by my friends and I'm French (and yes, I love cheese, wine and sausage ;D). I discovered this game one month ago, in Joystick, and try/love it today. My passion is computer graphics, especially 3D with 3dsmax, and I'm very interested in any kind of modding (made some supreme commander new unit for example).
-
Heh, nice. But just so you know, Aquaria is 2d. ;)
Welcome to the boards.

Hey, un francais :)
Je pense que Joystick va ramner pas mal de monde sur ce jeu. J'ai aussi découverts Aquaria grâce à Joystick.
En tout cas bienvenue !
-
My name is Jonas, I haven't bought the game yet.
(But I have completed the game under my visits to my brother a.k.a LANparty)
I'm 17 yrs, turns 18 this summer.
I live partly at the housing area belonging to a nuclear power plant (Forsmark),
partly close to the capital city Stockholm and partly in the seaport (correct word?) Sundsvall.
On my spare time I play Magic : the Gathering and compose music (saving for a midi KB and fruity loops/cubase/sumthin').
And I love this game and will buy it definitely when it's available in retail.
"Fun facts":
Tend to be to lazy to get to bed and on the same time I feel an urge to go for a walk or dance some stepmania.
Ridiculously scared of diving to deep beacuse I probably would feel something uncomforting under the surface.
Probably will get a F in English, Swedish and that sort of subjects. Beacuse it's not interesting and hey, I'm lazy.
-
Hi there! I'm *scrambled* and am an official Bit-Blot supporter since saturday.
I am impressed by Aquaria and its sheer addictiveness and will be awaiting its sequel shortly. (Get cranking, guys! >:D)
-
Jonas, you seem to have very good english. I know typing is different then speaking it, but at least you know what to say. (even if you can't always say it correctly :D )
-
Heh, but schools don't test how well you can actually speak or write the language, they test how well you can bullshit letters to <insert-pertinent-nationality-here> penpals :P
-
Bah, if it's comprehensible then it should be good enough for all! Not everyone is born as an english novel writer. :)
(Sidenote: What are these smilies about? They look like car batteries?)
-
Greetings! I am black_orchid and completely addicted to this game. Well done guys! *insert thumbs-up smiley here*

I always thought the smilies looked like legos. With faces.

Hello
I'm a 24 years old guy from Sweden who started play this game some days ago and loving it =)
-
:D hello every one , i come from China
i'm 26 , i like play games and write games
my english is not well ;D ;D
-
Stop worrying about your english, people. ^-^And hiya!
-
Fun thing about forums is that you can take your time to post, you don't need to immediatly reply, so you can take your time to check your words and use proper grammar, even though I barely listen to myself. And I'm not even talking about dialects.
-
Hard to get a grammar check on the internet, but vocabulary is easy enough via google.
Oh yeah, late hi. I'm 30-ish in Georgia, US. Software developer and avid gamer. Sadly, I haven't got the time to do a whole lot of gaming, nor the money to properly support the habit. :( Two small children can do that to you. :)
-
Eheh, I got a Dutch - English, English - Dutch dictionary next to my comp 24/7.
And just give them some time, buy them games, and you can soon play games with them. :3
-
Hello!
I am Anastasia (though I prefer Anna) from America, and it is nice to meet you all!~
Post some stuff about me, you say?
1 I've a most likely unhealthy devotion to anything Japan-related. In-fact, when I turn 21, instead of getting wasted, I am going to Japan for a month as a birthday present to myself.
3. Graduated high school last year, and moved to one of the most dairy saturated states in the whole US of A.
4. Am happy-sadist.
5. Heard of Aquaria through tigsource.com, decided to check it out, and have been hooked ever since the first water filled moment.
6. I tend to be very picky about the games I play so indie games are my preferred drug -couchgamecough- of choice. However mainstream games are just fine too.
7. My brother has a bird, and there is not one day that goes by without the little feathered idiot biting me.
8. This is one of the few forums that I've registered at. Lurking can be fun, right?!
9. I make it sound like I don't have much of a life a good majority of the time, but it's all a lie.
10. Sometimes when I am alone, I can hear the world spinning. :D
Fun fact:
When I (http://<a href="http://s151.photobucket.com/albums/s153/ReverieXofXEchoes/?action=view¤t=S5031901copycopy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s153/ReverieXofXEchoes/S5031901copycopy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>)was younger, I owned ever single tape of Woody the Woodpecker, and to this day I can still imitate his laugh perfectly.
-
Stupid me, I rarely check this forum so I haven't introduced myself yet.
So, ehr... hi.
I'm Aërendyll (Aero or Ae for short) and I'm an 18-year-old girl from the Netherlands. I'm not telling my real name, not even my front one, since most of you people can't pronounce it anyway and I like privacy. :) Oh, and next saturday I'm turning 19. ::) I'm weird, love dark stuff and non-gorey horror, watch anime, read manga, play JRPG's a lot and love drawing and creating pixelart too.
Fun fact: I was checking on Derek's site for his pixelart tutorials again when I stumbled across an announcement that Aquaria was released. Curiosity dragged me to the Aquaria site and here I am. :) I BET NONE OF THE OTHER PEOPLE IN HERE GOT INTO THE GAME AND/OR FORUMS LIKE THAT.
-
Oooh... Dutch almost 19 y/o gamer girl... what's ur name, where you live, wanna hang out sometimes /stalker =p
But seriously, nice to know at least another person from the NL, you interested in helping with translating subtitles? o: I got everything translated... but everyone makes mistakes. ~_~;

Hi I'm Steph and also an ex lurker (sorry about that but I am already a member of so many forums) :-[ But I really needed help with Aquaria so I decided to go ahead and join as searching and read FAQs didn't help :-[
I won't give my age if you don't mind but am a mother so you can guess that I am not young ;D I paint most of the time and play games and do household chores the rest.
I am quite adept with a camera, Photoshop, Paint Shop, and some small amount of HTML and I love animals. There is that enough, if there is anything else I should mention please let me know, I don't mind being told if I make mistakes so long as it's done in a friendly manner :D
The other forums are art forums by the way :D

I came to say Hi too.
I´m 20 - years old going-to-be-a-student-at-Autumn, and i live in Finland. I found this masterpiece called Aquaria from a finnish game-magazine ( called "Pelit") nearly a month ago. Soon i was the happy owner. This game has a heart! I still haven´t played it through, though. ???
I love good games and music. Is it a wonder then why Aquaria struck so hard? Heh heh.
I´m waiting more wonderful stuff like Aquaria from the makers. A sequel, perhaps... Keep up the spirit!

Hi Vetehinen, sorry I didn't welcome you sooner only I am deeply into playing Aquaria and loving every minute even after dying loads of times, fighting Nautilus prime and visiting the Cathedral ::) Great game isn't it :D
-
Hi! Names Graeme I. and i'm a Winnipeg guy!! GO WINNIPEG!!!!!
Fun Fact: I dated Alec's sister for a while...now we're friends...!! lol :p

Hi Graeme *waves* I don't know what's happened to the rest of the welcoming commitee, perhaps they are all playing Aquaria? :D
-
Just didn't know what to say. I guess Hi would do. :p
-
A belated hello to everyone who posted here. I never check these "hi I'm new" threads.

-
Hi Trevor :D
The Wrath of The Sea king sounds a really cool game, is it anything like Aquaria? Just done a search for it, and it does look to be a good game but very different to Aquaria. :)
-
Hi folks, my name is Katie, I'm an artsy bum and I think Aquaria is totally rad. Thought I'd post here um... because I feel like a creepy old man just "lurking" :P
My hobbies include painting, gaming, and sleeping at irregular hours. Whee!

I'm Matt from Australia. I have an I.T degree because I thought liking Mario Bros. meant I liked computers. It didn't.
Aquaria manages to conjure up childhood memories and still feel fresh.

It seems i'm witnessing somekind of strange family-meeting here :o... well, keep going... And hi to all again.
It's nice to see that Aquaria has players from all over the world, though you Canadians seems to have occupied this forum quite effectively (what a surprise :)).
And if you allow me to say, "Welcoming commitee" (as said by Ms Silverflagon), has done a pretty good job... It feels like somebody gives you a warm hug when you enter the site (please don't misunderstand this :)). Quite a extraordinary feeling, i have to say that. "Cosy".

Oh Help you haven't bumped into me before have you vetehinen, only once I get to know people better I do sometimes leave them a big hug if they seem to need it :o :-[ ::)
Alec I didn't mean that you fumbled it you just don't know your own strength that's all lol just be a bit gentler next time huh? ROTFLMSO!

That's good then :D
And it is good to see that the forum has a friendly feel to it, I must admit that I also got that feeling when I joi9ned or I wouldn't still be here :-*
-
It's always nice to see the birth and development of a forum and its members and the forming of a community. :) I like what this has developed to. :)
-
I'm Antonio a 23 yo guy from Croatia.
I co-run a small business on web development and graphics design. I do graphics design (programming is not my cup of tea) and do video montages.
Hobbies include writing and reading... and sometimes drawing/painting which I'm still learning.
-
Hi Skizzm welcome to BitBlott :D
Tell me when you stop learning because then you will be the first to do so, did you know that Leonardo da Vinci said that he was still learningright up until the time he died :D
Art is a big subject that you should never stop learning, I said that :D
-
Thank you for the warm welcome silverflagon :D
I do realize you learn 'till you die, was kind of refering to all that "still trying to notice all the lines and curves and bring 'em to paper" part of learning :)
-
I guessed that you might know already, I suppose that after talking to so many people who think that if they can't draw like Leonardo after a couple of weeks then they are never going to be any good, it just leaves me too quick to encourage patience ::)
Do you have any of your work in a gallery or web site so we could have a look at it :)
-
Your encouragment was helpful though :D
I started only a few months ago and am very lazy about it :-[ I do have something on the web...
One of my first pencil works, http://www.media.zebra-ds.hr/Stuff/Second%20attempt.jpg (he kept moving so I never finished it, that's why only the ear has any shading)
And, my first use of tablet http://www.media.zebra-ds.hr/Stuff/flower.jpg
-
I had a quick look at them this morning skizzm they show promise. regarding the portrait, you did choose a very hard angle to draw but it's possible to find reference material to help you with drawing the head in many angles.
Re the digital, the calyx looks 3D but your colour and tone perspective needs a bit more working on regarding the petals. If you squint and look at your flower you should see what I mean?
I found colour theory very scary once but all of a sudden it clicked and then it's like, wow why did I never see that before! :D
-
You know it's kind of funny, I've been around on the forums for ages, and never did properly introduce myself. Go figure. So without further ado:
Hello everyone, my name is Shiloh Stieber, aka Sean Stieber, Aka ET2(SW) Stieber, I'm an Electronic Technician 2nd class in the US Navy and currently deployed on the USS Peleliu LHA-5 Amphibious Assualt and Air Craft Carrier. My primary work here is a Radar Technician, mostly surface search radars and Navigation Beacons, but I've worked on many systems. I've been in the military now for 5 years, going on retirement. It wasn't my initial goal to retire out of the military, as I had plans to just do a 6 year contract to get my GI Bill to finish up college. Well turns out I can finish college while I'm in the service anyways, but I had joined as a single guy and ended up getting married to a beautiful wife and having two children. My next command that I have orders for is Kauai, HI and I'll be on shore duty for 3 years there. My major in college was Computer Science, specific in C++ programming and heavy on mathematics. I finished 4 semesters of calculus before enlisting in the Navy. Programming has never really been my strong point, graphic design was always what I have excelled at. I suppose that's why I have always had the interest in programming though. To become better at something that I am not that great at. I understand all the basics, but forming advanced routines just isn't my forte, at least yet.
I've grown up around computer all my life and game systems as well. My first computer was an Atari ST, my first game system was an Atari 5200, in fact I ended up owning two of them. One of which I got at a flee market for an insanely cheap price and it was still brand new.
I was born in Santa Clara, CA. But raised in Santa Cruz for 16 years. 2 years after that I finished my Junior and Senior year of highschool in Healdsburg, CA at Healdsburg Highschool. I've been to 4 highschools unfortunately due to parents divorce and re-marriage. So I had to go through the process of making all new friends at each school.
I've been to 2 colleges, all of which are community colleges, San Francisco City College, and Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR. I lived in Oregon for 4 years, managed to find many great friends and have some amazingly good times.
My hobbies in graphic design include many different forms from computer related, from adobe photoshop/gimp to flash, to HTML/DHTML/XML design. Other areas in arts I find an interest in include drawing in other mediums such as pencil, pen, colored pencil, and watercolors(of which I have not touched since college). I enjoy music production, using Fruity Loops Studio, Audacity, and Soundforge. I dabble in music composition with both electronic keyboards, and with acoustic guitar.
As far as sports, I grew up on soccer for 8 years, Tae Kwon Doe for 6 years, was a Junior life guard for 6 years, and my outdoors activities include swimming, and skiing.
The most fascinating thing I have found in this world include three things, love, my children, and my wife, and certainly they come hand in hand,.... in hand.
So that's me in a nutshell.. sorry I'm so late on introductions.
-
Late but encyclopedic. :)
-
Encyclopedic, yet somehow I managed to not even say how old I am, lol. Well I was born in 1977 the year Star Wars 1 came out, and the same year that Elvis Presley "died", making me 31 years old as of July 18th this year. So yes, I'm over the hill now so to speak, but I'm very young spirited and hang out with varying age groups. I suppose after a certain point it really doesn't matter what age group you hang out with, you can learn something from everyone. :D
-

If you are over the hill then there is no hope at all for me DM :D Well there isn't really but I would like to pretend otherwise, my son is 3 years older than you lol
Better late than never ;D
-
true,.. well back to the drawing board, working on one of the bosses for my mod. Spent about 3 hours on it so far... ugh. :)
-
I would offer to help with painting but I don't do digital painting much anymore, my tablet is near useless and even though I can use a mouse to paint, the pain is just not worth it sorry DM
-
No worries, I understand. :)

Thank You for the heart warming music. Thank You for the breathtaking visuals. and Thank You for the most fulfilling gaming experience, ever!

I am Max A. S. (No there is not another S ;D ), and a teenager, and avid snowboarder/skateboarder/surfer/runner/artist/musician/reader (edit) in the order of which I would give them up if someone held me at gunpoint.
I found Aquaria through the small review in Wired Mag, and was immediately struck by the artwork of Nautilus Prime. From then on I was hooked. Not to sound cliched, but it was the best game I had ever played.
So hello, nice to meet you all, and all that jazz.
*edit* Oops, nearly forgot fun fact (or two): I have relatives in England, the United States, Morocco, and France, and I have passports in every one of those countries
*edit of an edit (edit squared?, edit ^2?)* WOOT new avatar!

Welcome to the forums Aquarian2 and Chibi! :) It's great to get feedback from more people who love this game. Hope to see you guys around in the other threads! :)
Chibi, you must travel a lot with family that spread across the planet. Any good or bad experiences come out of it?
-
All good, except for the second time I went back to England since I was three: I could see that my cousins thought I was an American tourist and I agreed with them to some extent :-\
I have yet to meet my grandparents in Morocco, but we're thinking of visiting them next summer :)

@Danger Mouse, silverflagon,
thank you.
I'm anxiously waiting for the Mac Version. I'm right at the finish, but I don't want to finish the game without 1920x1200 pixels of pleasure ;D.
Hopefully the old save games would work,?
-
Hmm, that's a good question: try opening a topic; you'll get more answers that way. Good luck, and welcome to the forums! (Although you came before me) :)
-
I'm Chrissy and I hail from Winnipeg. I have unlimited access to every member of Infinite Ammo and would be happy to hug any one of them for you if you ask nicely. I cannot hug Derek though. So sorry.
I study learning as it relates to the brain and behaviour, generally by means of classical conditioning. Rats are involved.
I also have not played Aquaria yet because I am a terrible, terrible girlfriend.
-
Hello and welcome!
I bet you are the first and only forum member who hasn't played the game yet. :D Be sure to do it in near future. :)
By looking at Alecs to do-list, he must be a terrible boyfriend too, so don't worry, you're a good match. ;)
Fun Fact: My friends call me Chrissy too. :)

I can't see why they shouldn't Aquarian2, but like Chibi say' if you need a question answering start another thread because once we welcome someone we don't often come back to this thread :-[
Hi Chrissy :D you cann't be that bad a girlfriend or you wouldn't still be a girlfriend, especially if you admit to being a terrible girlfriend lol That is twisted logic for you but it's very true lol
-
Thanks for the welcomes :D
Xiagan:
I am planning to buy Aquaria soon as a sign of my support... then it will just be a matter of when I can find the time to play.
Alec is a wonderful boyfriend! We're both fairly busy, so I don't begrudge his crazy to-do list; it just means seeing each other late at night instead of sleeping hehe.
And I presume your name is Christopher if they call you Chrissy? Mine is really Christine, unfortunately.
Silverflagon:
I think I understand your logic hehehe :) .... of course there's always the possibility that I'm still a girlfriend just because he hasn't had the time to get bored of me yet?
-

I'm more worried that you'll get bored of me. :'(
-
Nope, it's Christian, but only my colleagues at work, my grandma and sometimes my parents are calling me with my full name. :)
-
Thanks for the welcomes :D

Then he will need to drag you away from it for a few minutes of your time, you will love it lol
My son turned up last night to find me playing for the third time round he's about to either give up on me as a lost cause, or he's going to find me another game :o ROTFLMSO!
(for the uninitiated that means rolling on the floor laughing my socks of!)

Ack, there are too many "Chris" names. I blame jesus.
Then he will need to drag you away from it for a few minutes of your time, you will love it lol
I have heard wonderful things... I swear I will get there ;)

The trouble is that you need the time and from what you've said you don't seem to have a lot :( But on the good side, you do have a treat instore for you :D

Yeaaaaah, I started Assassin's Creed for PC in April, and I'm still only on the third mission hahaha.
-
I have a feeling that my son will be sorting that game out for me also and it looks really awesome from what a friend showed me in Youtube, I wonder if the hights in that will bother me the same as those in Uru :o You have to climb a tower to get to another part of a city and it's stunning :o
Have you got that far yet Chrissy?
-
Climbing towers is key to Assassin's Creed, you do it constantly.... and repetitively.... to death....
I think the heights are pretty cool, personally.... it allows you to get an eagle's eye view of the city you're in and helps you spot things you might not otherwise have been able to find. I'll get back to it someday :P
-
It sounds interesting lol
But I think that we had better let this thread return to it's original purpose now, so how about restarting it in the games board, Assasins Creed is a great subject :D
-
(don't know why I didn't see this yesterday)
Hi :) I'm Jonandra. Fun fact? That's not my real name... Does that count as a fun fact?
... not sure...
Owned this game since March '08, and only joined the forum yesterday... that seems like a funner fact. Is funner a word? Guess so, it wasn't spellchecked as wrong... O.O but spell checked as one word is... LOL
Okay, definitely a candid post.
Thank you again, Silverflagon, for the nice welcome.

Then I'm guessing that lovely piece you have as an avatar is your own handiwork? :)

Hi,
my name is Udo, I am 29 years old, and from Dresden / Germany. Nice to meet you all.... :)
Fun Fact: Love to play 2D Games, and bought a DS just to play Order of Ecclesia... need more stuff!!!
-
Hi Udo welcome to Bitblot, I'm your typical resident geeky grandmother here to help you if you're stuck in the game :D I am just wishing for the grandmother bit ::)
-
Good to know....
Too bad I only played the demo. But once 1.1.0 is finished, I will buy it. A boxed version would be nice.
Next to my Castlevania games there is still room for 2D-jewels ;D ;D
-
I know the feeling :) I love playing good 3D games but I still love the old 2D or cartoon like games such as the original BrokenSword games. :)
-
Don't judge Silverflagon solely from the Grandmotherly description: All your notions of what a grandmother is will be completely shattered. ;D
-
Don't judge Silverflagon solely from the Grandmotherly description: All your notions of what a grandmother is will completely shattered. ;D
Hey Chibi knows me and after only four weeks lol
-
Hey! I could only wish for a grandmother as cool as Steph aka Silverflagon! But in reality she's only old enough to be my mother. But still I've enjoyed many conversations with her, and the insights from her perspective have always been enlightening or witty.
It's nice to meet a newcomer to the forums! Nice to meet you jonandra. So WHAT IS your real name? Out of curiosity. Where are you from? How old? Any other details would be welcomed. :)
I'm a regular to the boards since before release along with many others that still frequent the forums. We're all excited and anxious for Alec's release of an OST and v1.1.0. I'm Sean, also not my real name, which is Shiloh. I'm also frequently spending my time creating quite an extensive mod for Aquaria and can be found in the Mods section under Aquaria: Lost Treasures. A link can also be found on the main page for Aquaria thanks to Alec. :)
More info about me? 31 Male, from San Diego, CA. Moving to Kauai in March of 09 for 3 years due to shore duty in the US Navy for another 3 years.
Interesting fact: Born the same year Star Wars 1 was released, in fact it was the first movie I've ever seen in a movie theater as well, and also the same year that Elvis Presley died.
-
I think Chibi knows that we are only joking now so don't let it scare you away Udo, newcomers are always welcome :)
-
I´m not scared..... Why should I? :P
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I still need to read through all these fifty-page threads... give me some more days.... ;)
-
Good :D and take your time no one is going to rush you lol
-
I think Chibi knows that we are only joking now so don't let it scare you away Udo, newcomers are always welcome :)
Yeah, Silverflagon isnt too scary. Just remember that if she insults you, its probably a kind joke that went right over your head. ;D

I don't know how to take that Chibi, are you being sarcastic again? :P
-
Nah, it's simply a compliment. And that, my dear Silverflagon, was entirely sincere. :D

Though if you had heard me today............ ::) ::) ::) I've given some workmen and their boss earache over some unwanted bush trimming >:D

Welcome! I believe I saw you on the videoblog! You, sir, are pretty awesome in my books :)
Ahhh, you live in Burlington! That's so cool, a very very close friend of mine just started his MA/PhD program in experimental psychology at UVM this year, I miss him immensely. He's sent me tons of pictures, Burlington looks like an absolutely beautiful place. He's trying to get me to do my graduate program there as well, but I'm not sure I can handle being that far from Winnipeg. :-\
Anyways, welcome to the forums/family/fun/etc...
-
Hi Rafi welcom to Bitblot :D I'm from the UK and I won't say any more on that just in case this thread deviates again lol
-
Ha, welcome to the forums man. All newcomers are greatly appreciated (if they make at least one post, lol). You wouldn't believe the number of people who have never made a post, but they probably have excellent reasons.
-
My name is chimerathing, i live in oregon, and i am taking (in school) classes on animation and graphic design, and next year, multimedia.
-
Hey Chimera! Welcome to the forums. I actually lived in Portland when I was a wee lad (I can't remember anything)
-
Hey, oh yea, I also play bass, (upright and electric) and i go to an arts school. ITS AWESOME. I found this game through a review blog that i visit religiously called Jayisgames, i played the demo, and got addicted, then I found out the game was ginormous and i had to buy it, so i sold a few of my old DS games to get the extra 30. I am also obsessed with astronomy.
-
Hi all!
My name is Evan, and I've been playing Aquaria for a couple of days now. I've made it to the kelp forest, and found 2 of the goodies there ;).
Random facts:
- I am a graphic designer
- I love roller coasters
- I live in Boston, MA
Cheers!
-
Welcome to the Forum, Evan! Glad to have another artist here; you will post some of your work? How ah yah? ;) (You'll get used to my weird posts eventually) ;D
-
Hi Chimera, Evan welcome to Bitblot, if you get stuck just ask and someone will help you out :D
-
Hmm... I guess I haven't actually perused this part just yet.. I'm Alvin, nice to meet you all! I'm off of the West Coast up in "cold, cold" Canada, hehe.. my fun little fact... on top of the $17,000 i've already spent on my degree, I've still got at least another $10,000ish to go... ugh.
-
Hi Alvin :D that is a hell of a lot of dosh, what are you studying law or medicine? :o
-
Hi everyone.
I am Maxime and I have discovered this gem that is Aquaria in Macworld's latest issue. I tried the demo so far and it was a refreshing experience. I'll buy the full version soon enough.
What else? I am from Canada, currently working on a Master in science. I am also a dm/admin/builder/scripter (pick any!) on the NeverWinter Night persistant world City of Arabel.
Congratulation to Alec, Derek, Jenna and all those who supported the development of this project!
-

I just find myself wishing for a fellow Brit to show on some forums that's all Chibi, that way they are more likely to be around when I am and it's the same time of day for them :) Don't go getting all hot under the collar lol
-
Well, Toom is british too. Maybe he'll start posting again when he got the money to buy the Mac version. ;)
-
That would be great :D I have friends all over the world thanks to the internet but it's nicer when you canbe on at the same time and even meet up easier if you want.
One day I will get to a Viperfest and meet the rest of my artist friends face to face, one day I hope.....
-
Well, I'm from Germany, we don't have such a different day/night rythm I guess... ;)
-
I wish i was British, id have an awesome accent. I need to get an avatar. Hm...
-

Alright, I understand now. :) (My Dad's British, and some people recognize an English accent in my voice, but I live in America in all its glory and shame ::).)
-
Do you like my avatar, i made it mahself.
-
It's pretty good, but you might want to reduce the cut-off on the lettering.
I stole my avatar from the Bit-Blot homepage, re-sized it, coated it in copper, and placed a little "NP" at the corner. Not very original, but effective. :)
-
Changed the image now, fixed it up.
A Bok Globule is a superhot cloud of stellar dust and gas particles, they usually form around T Tauri and Protostars in the state of Nuclear Fusion, they are made of all the left over matter, they basicly serve as a cocoon for the transforming star. Theres one of the many astronomy related facts you'll get from me on these forums ;)
-
I like it much better than the original, but the color isn't my thing. :) Although people do say that real men wear pink. ::)
-
Is more of a magenta, and its the best color i could think f that would blend but still be noticable.
-
I like it much better than the original, but the color isn't my thing. :) Although people do say that real men wear pink. ::)
lol
You need to be a real man to wear it that's why, if you look or act in the least bit efeminate then :o lol
And the UK accent isn't always that great, we have many of them for such a small country and some are almost impossible for anyone other than another speaker to understand, and you only need to listen to Geordie to know what I mean :o lol
Chimera I love your avatar and who cares what the colour if it's close to what Hubble shows us :D
-
Chibi's evil twin
Since my dark secret is exposed so soon, I will now act openly evil! >:D
Joking aside, I finally purchased the game to enjoy it during the vacations that will begin soon enough.
I've also taken the opportunity to give you more visibility (http://coa.ender.com/viewtopic.php?t=90394) in the CoA community. My friends will likely hear about it too!
-
Very nice work: looks like you converted (ahem, introduced ;) ) many to the marvel that is Aquaria. Good work man! (And stop getting me into trouble with the cops, I did NOT steal those cookies.) ;D
Welcome to the forums!
-
I introduced one or two to the game also, but the trouble is it wouldn't run on one friends comp and I think that the others prefer their war games or Assasin so they just never got beyond playing the demo :( Their loss I supose :(
Sorry I can't post a link to my other main forum, it's not fit for young eyes a lot of the time and the other two are very quiet and prefer their privacy..
-
Hi hi, I'm Carmen from New Zealand (that makes three! xD)
I'm 16 and I was introduced to this game by Hiro and later was given it as a Christmas present ;) (Thanks, its great!!! ^-^)
-
Hi Carmen and welcome :D You live in the one country that I would care to live in, if anything should happen to mine, NZ is one stunningly beautiful place :D
-
Welcome to the forums, Carmen! My parents have always cherished a dream to go live in New Zealand "away from it all." Personally, I couldn't survive without the comforting noises, sights, and smells of civilization. Not to mention that a vacation spot may become mediocre if it becomes your home.
[EDIT] My parents have an idea of New Zealand from the early second millennium.

Hey NZ is very civilised be careful Chibi. >:(
-
I was referring to my parents' ideas of New Zealand. Sorry if I've offended any New Zealanders! :-[ :)

In jokes don't work very well when those who are in on them are not around Chibi.
-
wow, someone is way sensitive. I would say New Zealand isn't very populated compared to most other countries as well. Shouldn't jump to conclusions on the implications that Chibi had written.
-
Heh heh, depends where in NZ you live I guess. But yeah, the population isn't that big compared to the amount of land... or sheep >.>
-
I would agree though that the land is insanely beautiful! I finally got my hardcopy of orders to Kauai, Hawaii and will be moving in May, so I'll definitely get to enjoy some beautiful scenery and wonderful weather as well.
-

You correct there DM, but I know that I would not like the UK called primative so I guessed that anyone from NZ wouldn't like it either, I wasn't being sensitive just being fair.
And I do admire Chibi a lot, but don't go telling him now or he might get all conceited about it, but he is man enough to take it and not run away ;D
-

Why wouldn't anyone from NZ like it if the UK is called primitive? ;)

Been lurking for a few days, finally signed up. :)
Played the Aquaria demo about a year ago (I think, I forget exactly when). Enjoyed it and was recently reminded of it on Steam so bought it. Enjoying it a lot.

Hi my names geo kda and I'm often misunderstood :P, i am currently located in Edinburgh and I'm on my journey to join to creative industries.
one weird fact is that one day me and at least 10 friends went on a BBQ beach party and at night we got so drunk we ended up running around naked, but that's long since passed lol

Hi all! Just got Aquaria, and I am completely amazed. It is so inspiring to see a game of this caliber come out of the indie game dev scene, so kudos!
-
Welcome to the Aquaria Forums Cities.
For those that are new, it's a bit customary to tell us more about yourselves. Not just letting us know you are new. Where you guys/gals from? What brought you to Aquaria? Interests? A little more about yourselves, so that you're not just some name in the forum would be great. Nice to meet all the new faces here, welcome to the community!
-
Welcome to the forums Cities! I guarantee that you will enjoy your stay. :)
-
Hi cities welcome to Bitblot :D I'm from the UK and..... Well you will find out if you come by often, and I don't bite.... well not much ask chibi :D
-
::) Ouch! ;D Nah, she rarely bites (and only when it is deserved).

I'm a pussycat really, and only a tiger when I'm mad ;D lol

Strange you should mention proof-reading Chibi, only I once helped proof-read an online magazine until it folded ::)
-
Surely there was no connection ... ;) That's pretty interesting actually - what magazine?
-
4000 year old gamers magazine. :P
-
Haha! :)
-
ok ok, inside joke... I'm not being serious silverflagon. :) lol
-
lol It's ok I have a good sense of humour Chibi lol
And besides I wasn't the one that claimed to of been around when it was purely a mans game ;D
-
You didn't have to make that claim when we found out you were 4000 years old. :P

Anyone found my tomb yet, it will be the one with bandages leading away from the entrance all the way to the dead centre of the UK ;D

Hi, I'm Duncan.
I design flash games for living, used to live in Canada and am now back in the land of Eng. I downloaded Aquaria for Christmas and registered over here when I worked out how to build aquatic rockets in it.
Fun fact: I like water.

I live in the south east, near portsmouth. If it takes anyones fancy to attempt to stalk me based on this infomation I should make the following facts clear
1) Near means in the middle of nowhere. I say near because I live 7 miles from anywhere.
2) I already have a cheerful collection of stalkers who have a tendency to try and bump each other off. Be prepared for competition.

Welcome to the forums, Titch! Nice nickname, too. :) Where do I sign up? ::) Just kidding.

Hey, Jake here. I'm a college student just looking to relieve some boredom. That I loved Aquaria is a given, but what I would really like to see is some mods for it. I recon that if I felt like putting in the effort, I actually might be able to make a half-decent mod, but I don't to be honest :P. That being said I could help with the music for one, although you'll have to decide how good I am at making it.
Here's a song I just did for kicks in about 10 minutes: http://www.ijigg.com/songs/V24B0DGEPA0
-
If you want good mods look no further than here (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=1300.0) (Big Energy Form Battle by Hiro), here (http://www.bit-blot.com/?p=126) (DangerMouse's unfinished, but amazing mod), and here (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=1031.0) (the dark horse of the group, by TheBear). TheBear's mod is unique in that he aims towards an RPG - not my cup of tea, but possibly yours. I did not mention the Jukebox mod (a collection of the Aquaria sound track and a slick interface with which to listen) because it is packaged with the game and does not have any game play. Nevertheless, this mod is in my opinion the best way to listen to the Aquaria soundtrack yet.
Hope you enjoy Aquaria, and welcome to the forums. There are plenty of willing people to help. :)
-
Hi, name's Cryzbl, 19 years old, doing my second year of computer science studies. (sorry, my real name is unique in the whole world, though I only checked in my country...)
I learned about aquaria trough some blog talking about the best indie games for christmas 2008 and I picked 2 games (Aquaria and Gish). Since I'm not really a game fanatic these games are perfect for my tastes.
Currently I'm sort of a Valve fanboy and loving every game they make. Still have to get Left 4 Dead though, but Team Fortress 2 is already way more then enough to satisfy my needs for online gaming.
Also note the awesome avatar. :D

Nope just curious I can't afford to get all the way down there even if I had the energy and will to stalk someone, I live up near Derby and 8 miles from any place also. If I tell you that I am 60 this year does that make you feel a bit more secure? lol
Hi Jake, Cryzbl, welcome to Bitblot the door is always open to crazy Aquaria gamers :D Even if they are Apple users ::) ;) lol
-
I was in Derby for a while, about two months back when I was kicked out of home by builders. I have a good friend there who was letting me use his couch as a sleeping place. :)
-
My name is Jamie Kohler and I live in Ventura CA. I am 51 years old and I am in love with this game. Just started playing it and don't understand all that much yet. Thanks!
-
Welcome to the forums for Aquaria, hvenbnd, titch, Cryzbl, and Sleepwalker!
hvenbnd: I too am in CA, ... San Diego though. :) Moving in May to Kauaii, HI.
Stick around if you have an questions, or just want to chat about Aquaria stuff. :) Nice to see some more new Avatars. :)

Hi Jamie welcome to Bitblot :D

I bet that you found most Derbyshire people very friendly, but I hope that you didn't thimmp anyone for calling you 'love' or saying 'hey up me duck'? lol
-
Hi! My name is Dan, I'm new here, I bought this game off steam about a week ago and it's really something else! I am a musician trying to get myself known at the moment. :)
If you like, you can view my music portfolio here (http://www.myspace.com/denieruuk)
See you around!

Nah, I've a lover, not a fighter. In fact some chick walked up to me on the street and demanded I give her my telephone number. So I like Derby XD.
-
Hello. I am awesome. Or at least I think so myself.
I heard that to mod Aquaria, you need to know lua programming, and lua is like a second native language to me.
Also: This will blow your mind (http://luna-89.deviantart.com/art/Breath-of-Serenity-73455031)
-
Welcome MHD (which is the german abbreviation of "best before" ;D),
you know that you now have to program an awesome mod after this introduction, right? ;)
The pic is quite impressive. You can also find it on bit blot's fan art section or in the fan art-thread in this forum. ;) It blew my mind about a year ago.
-
I doubt he knew about the fan art page before he found the pic :D - welcome to the forums MHD! I guarantee that you'll enjoy your stay. ;)
-
Hi MHD, I will wait and see what comes :D
That painting is awsesome isn't it ;D

My name (for now) is Particlese, I'm from the States (VA, currently), and I love tons of stuff including Aquaria, juggling and diaboloing (http://pjdeca.people.wm.edu/juggling/twodiabolos.jpg), photography, coding, and bassooning and contrabassooning (http://pjdeca.people.wm.edu/music/idle_bassoons.jpg). (Also parenthesis and commas.)
Fun fact: I'm a physicist, complete with a strange sense of humor, and I get to play with a giant (17 Tesla) magnet every day. It's kind of like MRI, but more sciencey. And it likes trying to steal my glasses.
I've been lurking here since Derek's interview on the 1UP Show, and now that I've finally gotten my feet wet with modding the game, I hopped on IRC and am now here. Thanks for the entertaining greetings on IRC and the entertaining posts here!
-
Welcome to the forums, Particlese! :) You sound very interesting - I shall be watching your career on this forum very closely. ;)
-
Hi and welcome particlese, sounds like you have a fun time squabbling with that over grown magnet lol I'm pleased to see that you have stopped watching and that you have come down here and joined us :D
-
I missed you on IRC due to different time zones, so welcome here! ;)
-
Hi again, and thanks for the welcomes!
Chibi: I'll probably post about my mod plans this coming weekend. I have a main story which I'd like to keep as a surprise, but I should be able to get most of my ideas across without spoilers. (It's not particularly awesome, but there's some humour in it that I'd like to surprise people with.) So far, the only in-game stuff I've created is just to get familiarized with modding the game. My favorite thing so far is this dude I made that creepily chases you around whenever you spin. :o
Silverflagon: Yeah, I'm kind of lazy when it comes to joining new forums. I frequent two others, and this is the one I've posted most on in the past week or two! Also: yup, the magnet is quite fun, and it gives us an excuse to play with liquid nitrogen every week since we have to refill it!
Xiagan: I found you. Mwuhahahaaaa!
-
Ooo liquid nitrogen that is really cool fun rotfl!
-
Sounds like a cool job!
Damn, it's my brother who studies physics and not me! ;)
-
Liquid nitrogen is a neat thing - it's amazing what you can do with it when no one's looking ... *ahem* ;)
Hi again, and thanks for the welcomes!

Can't wait to see it, Part. :)
-
And helium but you need to be very careful lol It's very strange but I really enjoyed the experimental part of physics at school then our science teacher showed us the periodic table and suddenly it didn't seem to be such a fun subject lol Only we weren't told that it was called physics at that time and I left school soon after, I only found out about it when my son was taking it years later. :D
-
Science was my favorite subject until high-school. I went from having a teacher who was an eighth-grade mad scientist at heart to a teacher who sounded like the textbook was hardwired to his brain. :( I've always been fascinated by the sciences, and aim to become a doctor. :) (I know this is a little off topic, but you could view it as an addendum to my first post on this thread.)
-
Something similar happened to me also chibi but it was with my maths teachers instead >:(
-
Math was always my good subject. I enjoyed sciences too, but I never took chemistry in Highschool. It wasn't a requirement, a general science was required so I took Biology. I jumped into Chemistry for Engineers 201 right of the bat in College instead of 101 because it was recommended to me by a councelor since I was so good with math. 4 semesters of Calculus all straight A's. However when I took that chemistry I couldn't seem to get a grip on it fast enough since it was already expected that I had to have the periodic table memorized,.. hence I got a C the first semester, and the 2nd semester I had to drop it. Chose to go with Geology for my science credits instead, and had an absolute blast since most of the work was required to be out in the field (hands on).
-
I think that we had better let this thread get back on course, but it's oh so easy for me to start a grumble about lousy teachers here >:(
-
This thread is in the Off-Topic category, and any digression can be excused as introducing ourselves ... again. :) But you might be right silver. Time to wait for new people to post here.
-
Silver: this is the place for people getting to know more about each other.. there's no reason to change the topic. You should know better than that, old timer. :P
-
Long live the Off-Topic section! ;D
I know a bunch of people who had similar experiences with teachers dampening their interest in the sciences. During a couple seminars/colloquia we've had here, it's been pointed out that there's a disturbingly high number of science teachers out there with no science training beyond an intro semester or two at college. But slightly back on-topic, I'm considering becoming a teacher myself, as I really liked teaching labs and tutoring people here and there. If I do do that, I hope I can be even half as awesome as the teachers I've had. I was really lucky to have great ones the whole way through.
Edit: Nuts, top of the page again...
-
The problem is not the science lessons, the problem is that science teachers seldom get enough didactics lessons...
-
Definitely that, too, and for anything, it hurts if you're not interested in what you're teaching.
-
Silver: this is the place for people getting to know more about each other.. there's no reason to change the topic. You should know better than that, old timer. :P
:P You are partly right newcomer :p lol Yes it is for introducing ourselves but there comes a time when discussions should be restarted in a new thread so newbes can introduce themselves without inturupting a discussion. so there :p rothfl
Seriously though, sidetracking a thread is good for a while and if the person that started the thread doesn't object, but done in a welcome thread it can seem to some new comers that it's no longer there for them to introduce themselves.
-
Newcomers! Welcome aboard! Feel free to introduce yourself here!
;)
-
silver: It's at the top of the threads in topics ALWAYS, and the name hasn't changed. People aren't going to mistake it for some other subject. btw, I've been around longer than you silver... just not posted as long as you most likely. :P
hehe, nice touch Xiagan! :)
-
Lol Xiagan. :) All aboard!
-
Ok I give up if you say so DM :P

I'm Holly.
I'm 21.

I like tabasco sauce. 8)
-
Mmm, Tabasco sauce.
Welcome!
-
Hey Holly! Welcome to the forums. :) Are you a tabasco sauce gourmand? (i.e. do you put it on everything?) :)
-
Thanks Particlese and Chibi. :D
And to answer your question, Chibi-- yes. I am. (and yes I do.)
Also: Who thinks this game is going to be a cult classic much like Beyond Good & Evil? Eh, eh?
-
Forget "going to be" - it already is. ;D I don't know about the cult part, but Aquaria is definitely a 2D gaming classic. All games that do something completely new well are (or should be) celebrated and remembered.
-
Forget "going to be" - it already is. ;D
Mmm.. "Cult classic" was kind of a loose term to throw out there. It's obvious that it's already a classic. :P
I just meant that it's definitely got the same appeal in that a whole lott'a blood, sweat, and tears have gone into this game by just 2 talented individuals (much like BG&E, with Michael Ancel having created, developed, and produced it all on his own); with the end result being a GEM of a game with great music, characters, story, and overall atmosphere.
Hence, a cult following.
More of a comparison than a prediction, really. ^-^
-
Hi Holly :D And i think that you have it right even if you are only expessing your own feelings on it :D I like hot sauces also :D
-
Of course, Holly. I wasn't disagreeing. ;)

Nothing strange about that, a lot of folks decide to learn something new about that time and older lol You go for it Andrew :D I went to college 4 years ago to take a lifedrawing course, I was 56 at the time lol

I am Knut (try pronouncing that!) from Norway, 20 years old.
I am on first year (second season?) studying the wonderful world of physics, and I like to play computer games.
I am planning to buy some DJ equipment and start DJ-ing trance because I love the music.
Funfact: The fact is a lie.

Welcome, Akuda! What style of dancing are you learning?
And welcome, Chokke! Yes, more physicists! ;D

Welcome to the forums, ohn03s. :) Very good English, though English is evidently your second language. How do you like Aquaria?
-
Great game, Fun and not to easy(Pretty challenging. I preffer to be stuck for some time instead of winning all the time). Something thats wrong in the recent AAA titles(The good oldies still have it). Its an completely new experience and it reminds me of one of the older games I alway's enjoyed(Zelda, Not the recent ones. The last decent one was for the GBA). The sound an graphics are also great.
I personally think that Aquaria is pretty under rated.
-
Welcome, Ohn03s! I recently stopped lurking, as well. :)

I love how you said that. :)

Why thank you Chibi, I surprise myself sometimes lol

I finished it soon after bying it, and now, i am going to try version 1.1.1.

Welcome to the forums, XilasZ. You've remarkable paper-folding skills. :)

wow, that sounds like a truly interesting life. :) Welcome!
Welcome XilaZ too, I suck at origami big times...

And of course I love fantasy and scifi :D

Thank you, Silver.. it is always nice to be welcomed. Thank you, other welcoming persons. I'm about to take off for a Mexican jungle and won't be posting til mid-April, but I've really enjoyed surfing the forums and getting so much help (I will cheerfully take all I can get). Hasta pronto.

Thank you everyone.
You can try the wasp if you want, the diagram is free : http://dev.origami.com/images_pdf/wasp.pdf

Hurry up back Sindhi :D

Thanks, Silver. Working on three rudraksha orders; leaving Sat. early; still surfing but no time to play. This is super fun, though, and I've never found a game I enjoyed as much as Aquaria. Don't think I'll be making any speed runs, though. I'm definitely more of a Lexus than a Porche. See y'all later!

Well, there are always ups and downs in forum activity. At my end of the internet warm and sunny spring just started so everybody is chilling in the parks and not slacking in front of a monitor. ;)

Hello out there, I'm Samantha. I found Aquaria one day while searching for games to play on apple.com. I never expected it to shed light on such a glorious opportunity to become part of a new world. I have been reading numerous posts here since I bought the game at the end of January.
I enjoy adventure-type video games mostly. I also like singing, playing piano, drawing, and wasting time watching YouTube.
-
Welcome, Samantha! I'm going to take a leap and assume which Samantha you are.... and then give you a big e-hug because you are an incredibly talented singer and your contribution to Alec's song made me cry it was so beautiful.
So thank you so much, and keep doing what you do because you have what it takes to make it very far! :-*
Also, if I've got the wrong Samantha, just ignore me hehe...
-
Yes, it's me. Thank you so much! You must be very very special to him.
-
Hello guys!
I'm Limestraël, from France (Rouen, for those who know). I'm 19.
I felt in love with Aquaria just today, especially for the game's atmosphere (through music and images). Indie forever!!!
I knew this game when I was doing some research on the IGF award-winning games (WoG, Audiosurf, Crayon Physics DX, Darwinia and so on).
I'm some sort of a geek (o rly?), some kinda linux and python fanboy.
I love power and folk metal.
-
Welcome! Glad to notice Aquaria "strikes" again, as I have witnessed how many players have been enchanted by Aquaria. ;)
I guess people enjoys Aquarias music even if their musical taste can be anything from classical to metal, which tells something about the games quality.
-
Hello
I guess that you could say it was a good outcome from a bad situation that caused me to find Aquaria.
For a long time I've not played much but WoW as it satisfied my needs gaming wise. My enjoyment of WoW though has been on a slow downcurve for the past 3 years as I was forced to cancel my satellite internet service (due to a new modem of theirs being a POS) and return to 26.4k dialup. I was still able to play, though limited severely in what I could do. What finally killed the game for me was that with the latest expansion I could no longer even participate in 10 man instances. After trying for awhile to stay interested I finally just finished things up and quit playing last week.
It just so happened that at the same time I had just gotten the July PC Gamer which included the Aquaria demo on its ride along CD (which is a major part of why I get the mag in the first place). As I now had nothing to do but play old games or look for new ones I decided to check out all the games on the disc. ...I had ordered Aquaria within a couple days (though the extra $11.90 for the CD was quite annoying). Aquaria very much helped to replace the void left by WoW.
All the time in WoW though has left me missing the interaction with other players, which drives me to come and read and post here.
-
Agree, there is really cozy feeling in this forum, and nice people in addition.
What WoW experience I have (trial+ addicted friends), I say I was disappointed to it because my friends showed how it should be played. Add-ons, all kind of programs, tables and matrices in order to squeeze 110% out from your character. Hey, where's the fun? How about background music (no, you click them off immidiately) or beautiful landscapes and stuff... no, you keep low quality settings in order to raid more effectively.
If I wanted Excel 2.0 , I would ask some. Not interested. I want to have clear, enchanting experience if I use my time on playing. Aquaria is purely for exploring places and adventure, nothing more or less.

It's true that some people play that way, but it's definitely not the only way (or the right way IMO). The amazing lore along with the great music and visuals were a big part of the fun for me in playing.
-
Hi there, i'm Julien from France, i'm 28 and in good health.
As a nostalgic of old good 2D stuff, i felt in love with Aquaria. Many thanks to the team for this great game.
I've not really something to say about me, so don't blame me. ;)

-
Now now, where's the welcome-team hiding? :) Guess if I am allowed to say something high and mighty, but welcome. I have enjoyed my time here with Aquaria forum; good folk and music/art threads are fantastic. People who love Aquaria can't be anything else than good ;)
-
I'M BAAAACKKK!!! lol.
But yeah, I have been caught up in a lot of stuff, and haven't been able to get up here for a while. But I should be around pretty consistently from here on out, so, yeah.
-
We have the check in/out topic for posts like that. ;)
WB!

I am Filaret Stepanov from Russia. I very like the game named Aquaria! Thank you so very mutch for it! Perogi & Borscht - forever! :)
I'd like to be under the sea. In an octopus's garden in the shade!
-
Just wanted to introduce myself, because asking stuffs on a forum without saying who I am isn't very polite. :p
So my name's Carole, I'm 19 & I'm french.
I like many things like horse riding or music or being with my friends (of course !), but I also like video games a lot (I'm mostly playing Guild Wars). ^^'
I discovered Aquaria by a friend of mine who made me listen to the music first, and I just fell in lov with it, it's amazing. *o* So I wanted to discover the game, and I liked it a lot even if I got lost a few times. ^^'
Anyway, it is a really nice forum that you've done here you guys, thanks for all your help !
-
Welcome to the forums, Scarole! My mum was raised in France. ^^ I'm not as active on the forum as I used to be, so I missed your first few posts.
-
Hello, I thought I'd introduce myself.
My name's Margaret. It has been a while since I registered on the forums and even longer since I discovered the game itself but I took my time to try and then buy it. Frankly, this is THE one game that should be bought because it is a true labour of love and it has an old-school soul about it. In times when it is becoming harder to find anything borne out of true passion, Aquaria definitely stands out as a little gem. It is like a breath of fresh air among all the tedious sameness on sale today. From story to graphics, everything is so polished! I love the exploring most of all. Aquaria has swept me off my feet with the degree of open-endedness it offers - it is a rare treat to find something which lets you wander this freely.
Now, I suck at games which require shooting and reflex, I've never been a fan of platormfers (except for Braid- that one is a genuinely unique game), arcades or shooters. I usually play point&clicks (preferably old-school, 2d, hand-drawn), puzzle-type games and rpgs, if I find something actually worth my time. That's why at first I was somewhat fearful of Aquaria being more "action" based. I got used to that after a short while, though. And I have to say..it makes more sense to me to have more action than puzzles. It fits. It feels like Aquaria should be. Plus the challenge is quite welcome.
I am playing Aquaria on my laptop with a touch pad, no mouse (only 1/4 working USB port, the rest is damaged and the one port that works I use for a stable internet connection) but even I got used to the controls ( use mostly keyboard, the hotkeys are a true blessing!)) and thus can manage the game quite nicely. I only have a problem co-ordinating clinging to walls with attacking if there is a need for me to do both at the same time. That' is probably part of the reason why the beast form boss was more difficult for me but I beat it eventually. Yay. I'm now exploring the gorgeous and dangerous Kelp Forest.
Anyway, absolutely adore the soul, the idea behind the game, how everything goes so well together, the graphics, the music, the moving, at times chilling story. I'm really lovin' this ride!
Thank you for making something this gorgeous and worthwile. I have been charmed.
Best regards to the makers and all fans of Aquaria.
-
Welcome Wind Dancer! I can attest to truly appreciating this game for it's unheard of "old-school" and yet modern qualities. :D
-
My name is Walter and I am Alec's cousin. I used to babysit Alex and his brother when I was a teenager. I remember playing video games on the Adam computer (with the awesome tape drive storage) after I'd put them to bed. And everything you may have heard about the Holowka family is true - we are all geniuses who are brilliant musicians. Anyways, I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and remember playing Pong when I was single digits old. I was just given a copy of the Aquaria soundtrack by our grandmother and I'm impressed.

Holowka 5 anyone?

Now there are 4 (Holowka's, that is.) ;D Possibly five, but that's a different matter. ;) Welcome to the forums, Wind, Har!

THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT YOUR FAMILY! THEY'RE WATCHING YOU RIGHT NOW! RUN!
Not in that direction, stupid!

I already introduced myself in one of the other forums but hey, I might as well do so here too XD
My name is Christeen! I've been watching this forum for a couple of months now and I just decided to join a few days ago! Aquaria's one heck of a game! Well, it LOOKS like it anyway, I haven't the game or the money to buy it. I know about Aquaria because I watch it almost religiously on Youtube! I won't say where I live because, well... Unfortunately you don't know who's a psycho and who's not XD
But I guess it wouldn't hurt to list my hobbies! I like to draw, though recently the most I do are doodles in my notebook at school ( especially during Physics ) listen to music, play on the wii, do yoga, and like any teenager, chill! I'm also a very hopeless romantic... VERY hopeless. It's no exaggeration to say that one of the big reasons I love watching this game is seeing Naija and Li hug and stuff. See? Hopeless ^-^
But like I said that's just ONE of the big reasons, among many why I like this game so much. Metroid like and yet, very original XD
-
Welcome to the forum!
And it's fine that you're paranoid about the internet, people should be with all the freaks like me browsing around. :D
-
Welcome! :)
At least Alpha didn't greet you with "Welcome to the forums <REAL_NAME>, I just added you on Facebook. Next time I'm in <PLACE_YOU_LIVE> we could go out?" ;)
-
Wouldn't it be {SUBJECT NAME HERE} and {SUBJECT HOMETOWN HERE} :P
-
Probably! But seriously, thank God for that XD

Could be the same person but if so I don't see why they waited a week to make the second post.
Also, nice avatar Chibi 8)

This post contains spoilers. If you haven't completed the game yet, I would suggest going elsewhere.
This post also contains a bit of emotional stuff related to real life.
Hello, my name is Tonakai.
Tonakai is Japanese and translates to reindeer. I learned about that when reading Finnish version of One Piece.
I found about Aquaria quite a while ago when I was searching for 2D side-scrolling games.
I heard about Aquaria in an another game's forums. There was a small game where you posted a picture of a game and then everybody else would guess what the game is.
When I got Aquaria and played it...
To very mildly describe the feeling... I was impressed. Amazed.
The very first cave's music, which is called Light... When Naija's talk stopped, I just sat on the rock for a while just because I wanted to listen to the calm music.
Then, I slowly swam towards the upcoming adventures...
I pretty much enjoyed every part of the game.
I gotta admit that I used a walkthrough on some parts, likein Sunken City, the part where you have to get the ghost kid to the room where you fight the big golem like creature... Very odd puzzles.
And in Creator's fifth form. I had absolutely no idea that you had to use the Sun Form to take off the eye......
After I beat the game (even though with a walkthrough... All memories in the first go. Probably not a good thing... I haven't even seen the normal ending yet. :X ), my mind was still in Aquaria.
The next day in school I couldn't even concentrate on the lessons, because I was just thinking of Aquaria, Naija, Li, all gods, the Creator...
Such a good story... Such good music... Such a good gameplay... Such good graphics.
And all of this amazing game was made by only two indie game developers.
Heh. It's kinda funny to think that a small amount of indie game developers can make thousand times better games than any of those big companies. (Don't get me wrong; those big companies do have several good games, too!)
After a few days I decided to download the soundtrack of Aquaria.
Before I did that, I had been quite sad. Sad because of several friends... Who decided to be huge pricks to me. I'm not going to tell the full stories here, but if you want to, I can link...
Anyways, I had been sad. Sad and lonely, without any friends to talk to... All of them had left after I graduated from 9th grade.
It was quite sad time...
Until I discovered Aquaria and its great soundtrack.
It's impressive how music from a game - I repeat, MUSIC from a GAME - can affect a person like this.
I found all the happiness from songs like Open and Bright Waters, Arboreal, the excitement from the boss fight songs like Big Boss, Mithala, Worship, the relaxation from songs like Light, Remains, Veil...
Now I have listened to every song from Aquaria at least 60 times. The most played song is Big Boss with 197 repeats... After that comes an another boss fight song from an another game with 117 repeats.
All that listening drove all the sadness away from me, and to this date I have been filled with energy and happiness... You guys should see me in real life.
I'm so happy some people look at me with "what the fuck" in their eyes. It truly feels great!
And all of this happened from a game by two indie game developers called Derek Yu and Alec Holowka.
I really owe you guys. You have given happiness in my life......
Now that I'm typing the ending of this post of mine, the song Lost to the Waves is ending. Nice coincidence, huh? Great way to submit this post...
P.S. I just previewed this and holy SHIT this post is LONG! I wonder if anyone will read this... Lol.
-
Read your longass post, to sum up my responses:
I'm amused at how a Finnish thing can learn you Japanese words.
I'm happy that you enjoyed the game and especially the music, you must be a very sensitive person.
The 'normal' ending (SPOILER) lacks the meeting with Mia and has one additional sentence of Naija saying that you hadn't collected all the memories yet. (SPOILER)
Most big game companies figure out new game play methods and make a game with it, Indies comes with concepts before playing methods. Always a big difference in the end product.
Even though it wouldn't be wise to tell the story here, what specific thing made them go prick on you? (looks, behaviour, emotions?)
Further I'm happy that Aquaria has made you so happy and hope you'll stay like that.
Finally, I too find it amazing that two people are capable of making such a amazing game.
And indeed a nice thing that you ended this post coincidentally with the song.
-
I actually finished the game a few minutes before I had to go to school, I was almost late to class because I was watching the ending! Needless to say I was stunned and amazed by the secret ending, and I couldn't focus for the rest of the day.
Most big game companies figure out new game play methods and make a game with it, Indies comes with concepts before playing methods. Always a big difference in the end product.
Completely agree with you here, Alpha!
-
I'm happy that you enjoyed the game and especially the music, you must be a very sensitive person.
Well yeah, that might be so...
Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not an emo of any sort :v
The 'normal' ending (SPOILER) lacks the meeting with Mia and has one additional sentence of Naija saying that you hadn't collected all the memories yet. (SPOILER)
Don't worry, I know about the normal ending (damn walkthroughs!), I just haven't seen it by myself yet.
Hmmh... Nowadays I quite regret that I have ruined many good game experiences with all kind of walkthroughs.
Most big game companies figure out new game play methods and make a game with it, Indies comes with concepts before playing methods. Always a big difference in the end product.
I can't say anything else than I agree.
Cave Story, Penumbra series, Aquaria, Iji... Need I say more? :p
Even though it wouldn't be wise to tell the story here, what specific thing made them go prick on you? (looks, behaviour, emotions?)
Probably me being really stupid.
Well, that's what I think so, I'm not 100 % sure, though... They haven't told me. :p
Nowadays I don't really care about it, it has almost been a year since the first incident.
Further I'm happy that Aquaria has made you so happy and hope you'll stay like that.
Heh, thanks.
Even though I have been a bit tired recently, I'm still happy. :D
Also, damn... From all the praises towards Aquaria, I quite forgot to introduce myself. :|
As you have seen and told, my nick name in here is Tonakai, and I am from Finland.
I am a 16 years old male who is quite sensitive, as Alphasoldier said.
I'm studying in a vocational school as a datanome. I have a perfect class - Nobody hates anyone and everyone gets along with everyone else. Except for two people...
Most of the time I spend my free time on my laptop chatting in IRC and posting stuff in an another game's forums where I spend time quite a lot, plus playing games.
Among those, I quite often do some kind of exercise. Got to have your body shaped up... At least a bit.
Well, that's probably everything you need or maybe want to know... Nice to meet you. :v
-
Hello, everyone. I'm AhKi. I'm a game reviewer for my college's news paper and all that jazz. I just wanted to show up to express how ridiculously fond of this game I am. I wish I could even begin to express something as beautiful in my writing as you folks have in this game. I'll be following your work from now on.
-
Hello,
I'm Jhon and I am new in this forum. It's so nice to be here, meeting new friends and discuss related topic related to the forum itself. I'll see you around guys.
Thanks
-
Guys, I'm not sure about this stephenson guy. He has posted in years old thread without adding anything to them. Second to that he hasn't said a word about Aquaria.
I suspect either a really dumb person or a very intelligent spambot.
-
But what is he spamming or advertising about? It just doesn't makes sense...
-
There's a few more options:
-A foreigner
-A child
-Mentally handicapped (can't think of a nice way of putting it)
-Some combination of the above
-
Uh, obvious troll is obvious?
He's basically followed the same pattern every other spambot/troll has, with the exception of posting ad links. And on that note...
They're bombing us!
He may be a child or mentally handicapped, but it doesn't change the fact that he's trolling our forums. Honestly, Jhon Stephenson doesn't really sound Phillipinesse to me.
If he's a spambot then I'm impressed. He's managed to post something vaguely relevant to each topic. I foresee polite and social spambots asking us to teach them how to love.
-
Hello Zoko,
I am just trying to clear my name in this forum. To tell you honestly, I am not a spambot. I am a real human posting and sharing something related to each topic in this forum.
:)
-
hahahaha nice one
-
Hi everyone! My name is Aideen and I come from California, USA. :3
I'm one of those pathetic, stupid high school seniors who spend more of her time playing games than studying, and I'm sure we'll all be great friends! =^.^=
And... yeah... Zoko (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1617) told me I should have posted here when I "accidentally" made my own thread (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=2134). ^///^
-
Hey, fellow Californian!
And... yeah... Zoko (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1617) told me I should have posted here when I "accidentally" made my own thread (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=2134). ^///^
It's not that big of a problem really, just to let you know that it's better to post in a topic that's already there instead of making your own (if there's already a topic for what you want to say). ^-^
... I just realized I never actually introduced myself here. Oh well, everybody here knows me already anyway.
Edit: The aforementioned spambot invasion is *very artistically* depicted by me on the top of the page.
-
Hey everyone,
my name is Bram :) and I'm from the Netherlands(or Holland as a lot of people call it, but that's just a province in the Netherlands :P)
I've found out about Aquaria through the Humble Indie Bundle, and it's been one of the best games I've ever played!
I've been starting to get a bit active on the forums, and from what I've read now most of this is quite interesting to me, so I probably will stay active for quite a while.
Anyway, I guess I'm done introducing myself by now..
Byes ^-^
-
Ah, should have known there was one of these around somewhere. Just another Indie Bundle newcomer. Name's Knight (no, really, I swear), and I'm from sunny southern California. I'm highly distractable, but I'd like to help out around here if I can, at least with the Wiki, if nothing else.
-
Ooh, I forgot to point it out... but I'm a bundle newcomer too! :D
The bundle is great! I got a bundle of games, and you got a bundle of newbies! =^.^=
-
Heh, welcome to the Forum knight, look over there, a shiny thing!
:D
-
Ignore this post. I was being stupid here. ^///^
...
Oh look! Reply number 444!
-
Heh, welcome to the Forum knight, look over there, a shiny thing!
Not THAT distractable. :P
-
Well, how highly is highly?
-
Welcome guys/girls!
Nice avie, Knight!
Zoko, I do love your " very artistically" picture, I think I just forgot to mention it before. ;D
-
Now I feel ignored. :(
-
I welcomed you in your own topic already. You need a lot of attention, eh? ;)
-
Hello,
My name is Brent. I'm not an indie bundle newcomer, but the HIB did remind me to start another play through of Aquaria. (and post here for the first time)
Starting up aquaria again brought up all sorts of great memories :). I'm also the guy who made the aquaria piano tracks.
-
Welcome to the forum anyways.
I must compliment you on your piano tracks, they were amazing.
-
I welcomed you in your own topic already. You need a lot of attention, eh? ;)
Of course ^.–
I'm also the guy who made the aquaria piano tracks.
You're amazing. :3

Aubrey here, 32 yrs, freelance artist and photographer, living in Colorado, USA. . .
I like taking things apart, literally or metaphorically, and seeing the how of functionality!
-
Hello Aubrey!
Don't we all like taking things apart? :3
-
Hi, My name is Steven Jackson, I'm new here and I hope to findinteresting information, so nice to meet you and good bye.

I must compliment you on your piano tracks, they were amazing.
You're amazing. :3
You are too nice ;)
-
Hi, My name is Steven Jackson, I'm new here and I hope to findinteresting information, so nice to meet you and good bye.
Leaving so soon? :(
You are too nice ;)
Aww ^///^
-
The one's that's leaving so soon is most likely a spambot.
-
Ah okay. I don't like spambots. o.o
-
Why hallo there BBF. I'm another one of those Humble Bundle newbs, I'm afraid. =P
Honestly, this game has seriously floored me. I saw a couple pictures, relatively unimpressed, thinking I'd be getting a fleeting, childish distraction for a bit when I tried it. How terribly wrong I was, how terribly wrong indeed.
I'm not sure what got me first, but it was probably the music. To keep things short, I will merely quote TV Tropes. "Crowning Music of Awesome (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/SugarWiki/CrowningMusicOfAwesome?from=Main.CrowningMusicOfAwesome): EVERYTHING" Particularly Mystery, which was too short for me to appreciate at the time, but when I listened to the actual track, nearly brought me to tears.
I could go on, but I think y'all get the point that I've turned into a complete fanboy. Anyway, nice to meet y'all. ^_^
-
It's an amazing game. I just finished.
*sniffle* let me go get a tissue. >_>
-
I'm close, but I realized I skipped the Spirit Form/Whale/Icy Veil completely.
...although that's really just an excuse. I'm really procrastinating because attempting to fight those bloody ghost mermen things which can only die from the scream attack threw me into a blind rage. I don't feel good at using items before a boss, otherwise it might not be so difficult. <_<;

Why don't you use the blind rage like the sun god did? ^.–
Umm... My advice to you would be once you enter the body, don't try to kill anything except the boss at the end, unless you really are that violent. xD

Alas, if enemies stayed within my screen I would do just that. =/
I find the things very difficult to avoid at points (well, their bullets to be precise), but I'll try. Maybe with soup, Jellyfish costume, and shield I can make it. But eh, either way, I'd rather see the Frozen Veil first. Besides, I only need a couple more Verse eggs.

Get spirit form too. It's pretty... and... yup, it's pretty, that's all. ^.–
Though... we really should be talking about this in the gameplay forum. xD

I only just did, like I said. =P As in, my last save is still in Mithalas outside the pod to the Spirit room. xP
Yeah, probably should. But I have homework so I probably should just end this conversation for tonight. Nice talking to you though. =D

It's an amazing game. I just finished.
Congrats! ;D
Did you have all the memories?

Yups, with all the treasures too. Now I want to see the other ending, but I don't want to fight the Creator again! D: He was HARD. >_<

Nothing to see there, really.
Welcome Zanith!

If that was a reply to my comment, I want to experience everything. :(

If you had all memories, there's no other ending, with memories just adds a part after the credits..

Isn't there an ending that tells you to look for all the memories? :S

Yeah, so you miss the sentence "Look for all the memories." ^^

That's all it says? No in-story way of saying it or anything? xD

Play this: Aquaria\vox\naija_endingpart2
-
Yay VLC! :D
I'm assuming while that is playing you just see her giant head like in the beginning? xD
-
Ok lets try this again the correct way. :)
I'm a late bloomer to Aquaria through the HIB. I really enjoyed it, so I thought I would come check out the community (which seems to be revived by the whole HIB thing) and see what is going on here...
I am a PC gamer myself - one of about a half-dozen left in the US it seems like. All of my friends are console players these days. Used to do the console thing back in the 8-bit and 16-bit era, but the newer stuff not as much. I write software for a living (web applications for the time being) and sometimes for fun. :P Apart from that I'm a student of Judo and now a big Aquaria fan. :)
-
I'll probably never own a console. :3

Viva la PC!
-
I haz a Wii, I'm a Nintendo fanboy. :D
-
My laptop is my only gaming utility, and most likely will be for quite a while unless I end up getting that Pandora I wanted. I do play console games frequently at a friend's place, though.

Sometimes it feels like my parents bought me my laptop because they know that you can't play games on it. >_<

The Wii is actually the only current system I have- and I mostly use it for VC and remakes, like Mega Man 9.
I did like Muramasa though, if you've played that. Fantastic art, and pretty fun even if it is a button masher. The exploration was kind of thin, which sort of takes it down a notch.

I can do my homework and type up random essays about random stuff they make me write for them.
-
Eww, essays. I sure don't miss those.
-
I have a Wii, PS3, and a few other older-gen consoles. My heart remains with the PC though. =P

PC all the way, I can honestly say that if I had never played a PC game, or have but a lot less than I actually did, I would be a different person.
Sometimes I wish I had a bf to give myself to.
Why not get one?

No one likes me.

You seem to be a fairly like-able person.

Shall we change that? ^.^

Your like-ability? You may retain your like-ability if you like.

Okay :3
Let's hope I can. :(
-
I don't think you'll have a problem with that here. :)
-
I have a problem with that everywhere. xD
-
Good luck to you, then. 8)
-
Noes... come back! T_T
-
I'm still here, but I can't be on all the time, I do have other things to do you know. Like that essay I should probably be writing.
That, and I feel like I shouldn't be clogging up a topic with a conversation irrelevant to it.
-
Hi, my name is Phil and I live in Idaho. I bought Aquaria over a year ago on steam and it was awesome.
-
I bet I already have people who dislike me here, but I am still reasonable to most things, I hope.
Also hi Phil from Idaho.
-
Hello everyone. I usually don't post introductions on forums, but meh, I'm tired so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm from eastern Australia and I bought Aquaria recently in the "Humble Indie Bundle" - for which, I'm afraid, I could not pay as much as I would have liked to. I only had $10 in my Paypal account, so that had to do. It's an incredible game and I've been playing it far too much in the five days or so that I've had it; my most recent save says around nine hours but I know it's been much more than that in unsaved time.
-
I bet I already have people who dislike me here, but I am still reasonable to most things, I hope.

Alpha, I can't name anyone on this forum who shows the slightest indication of disliking you. So raise your self-esteem, man.

People ignore me, too. >_>

You... stole his girlfriend? ???
-
Hiro has high restrictive standards concerning nudity and Alphasoldier made a Nude mod.
-
Really? I should pay attention to what goes on in the mod section more...
-
Well, looks like I never noticed this thread until now.
My name is Colton, and I'm a student in the US. Most of the fun stuff (to me) that I know, I have taught myself. My hobbies are making webpages, making programs, and playing video games (I do this the least of all three, until I got Aquaria that is :D )
-
I should probably call myself Nudifier from now on or something.
And hai Frostyfrog, I hope you're enjoying Aquaria! :D
-
Should we really talk about that mod in a welcome thread? :S
Hi frostyfrog, just ignore them, they're pervs. ^.–
-
Already know you from #bitblot, welcome here too! :)
-
I should probably visit #bitblot some day. When is a good time to introduce myself there? ^^;
-
#bit blot... I've never actually used it. Perhaps I should.
-
You should, talking's easier there.
Anyone new can also go there with questions without littering the forums with questions that have been asked countless of times before.
But that's just me ranting again.
-
Even Alphasoldier rejoined #bitblot after a long absence. :)
-
And I joined it for the first time ever! ^.^
-
I'm GMMan (or GMMan.BZFlag and likewise, if I can't take the name GMMan on other forums). I'm from Canada. I'm your "a bit above" average computer user. I'm working on the Aquaria Sheet Music project right now. I also do a bit of programming with AutoIt3. Some of the other forums I frequently visit are the Giveaway of the Day forum and 2D Boy forum and GooFans.

Welcome in our home cave! :)

Must be a rather big home cave you have there, Xiagan.

Yeah, we figured we could get a big one and split the rent 9681-way.
-
That actually means very little for everyone. xD

What up, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Scott, aspiring modsmith and steampunk aficionado. I am also completely terrible at introducing myself.

:D I want one!

That was startling. Let me go catch my breath.
Oh, and by the way... hi.

Welcome!
He looks more like Owlbear Prime. ;)
Not more than one owlbear per inhabitant in our cave please! (Gets a bit crowded otherwise.)

Name's Bishop, I'm the General of the Red Phoenix Army Rebellion against the Illuminated Cities (Ask and perhaps I'll tell more here), I have a Child on the way (Some odd 7-8 months from now) and adore my wife. Really though I do have a little one on the way, and am an avid role-playing geek. I've followed the Aquaria Game for a year and a little now and was frustrated with my prior account. Not being on a lot I couldn't really keep up with the threads I have posted. Though...once again I won't be online for about two weeks after this Friday. Kinda Sucks but such is life. Additionally due to my little one I wanted to start an account so I nixed the old one. Meaning I'm not exactly new per say but that I felt it was appropriate to do so. The previous Dungeons and Dragons Aquaria Topic by Tullehar, was mine. But killing the user, Imma jus take that one over from here on out. looks as though I may need to restart the topic :P
-
Welcome back then Bishop, and congrats on your child!
-
Lots of people returning to Aquaria recently. Yay! ^^
Welcome back!

Thank you much ^-^

Alloooooo to you too! Great to see people returning to the forum.

Heya.
I'm Katana. I've made my half-internet-fame doing Choreography in the Source engine (all those scenes in HL2 between NPCs; Kleiner's Lab, rebels telling you to reload, etc, are scripted, choreographed scenes) I made machinima (http://www.youtube.com/user/Katana314) for a while, and am now working with the Black Mesa mod.
I discovered Aquaria, like many others, in the Humble Indie Bundle. Since I owned 2 of the games, I paid $7 for it; something I'm reconsidering now that I've seen how awesome Aquaria is. Actually, my primary reason for registering on the forums was to see if there was a way I could donate additional amounts to Bit-Blot.
-
Well surely you can re-purchase Aquaria here again, but you can probably also make some kind of donation to Alec or/and Derek.... somehow.

Hey, out of curiosity, what percentage of Black Mesa is done? I haven't seen any updates on their website.

When it's done.
-
Hi all!
Code name's Nericor, a card-carrying geek out to have fun. Just finished the game (loved it!) a few days ago and came to the forum to see what mods and add-ons people had made, lurked for a while and figure I might as well contribute if I can. Granted my programing experience is mainly with microcontrollers and my artistic ability isn't, but I'll see what I can do.
Fun fact: Learning Japanese through self-study, mainly so I can play all the great JRPGs that NEVER get localized into English. That and I always wondered what it was like to be bilingual and one of my goals in life is to have a meaningful conversation with someone in a language other then English.
-
Welcome!
I think most of us here are card-carrying geeks... except lady succubus. ;D
Learning a second language is pretty rewarding... I think it should be required starting in grade-school, personally. I learned German through High-School and College, plus I've been over there a few times. It's certainly a shorter jump for an English speaker than Japanese is, though. Stick with it, you'll be glad you did!
-
What's a card-carrying geek? o.o
-
Card carrying geek... I have a few friends like that. You don't really need to be a geek to carry cards around, IMO. Some of my card carrying friends just also happen to be geeks, and some aren't. Personally, the only card I carry around with me is my credit card, and I seldom actually use it.
Where I live, knowing a second language is a requirement for colleges (above community college level and stuff like that). Personally, I know English and Russian and am currently learning French. I agree with Pelar that it's pretty rewarding.
-
Thanks for the encouragement! Japanese is actual much easier then people make it out to be, not that it's easy just logical. I feel really sorry for anyone who has to learn English, there are more exceptions then rules and don't get me started on spelling....
Not sure I agree with requiring learning a second language. Getting more multilingual people is definitely a good thing (especially here in the USA, probably the most mono-lingual country in the world), you just get much better results when people want to do something then when they have to.
-
How the hell are bots getting this smart?
-
My name is Forumirule. I'm not an indie bundle newcomer, but the HIB did remind me to start another play through of Aquaria. (and post here for the first time)
Starting up aquaria again brought up all sorts of great memories Smiley. I'm also the guy who made the aquaria piano tracks.
Oh my, I really missed this one. :o Kinda scary, Zoko...
-
I think they copy earlier posts?
-
Maybe they read all the posts on the forum, rank each statement on responses by other people (which are also ranked!) and then compile them together in a way that makes sense through association. Or something. ^^
Or maybe it's an actual person we think is a bot? ^^;
-
I'm not even sure what they're trying anymore, seems like humans are far too often working WITH the bots, as in, they compile first post, but I don't get why they would even spam with a single introduction post in the first place.
-
Nothin' like a spambot to bring everyone together, eh?
I don't think it's a person Succubus, it followed the same pattern in all of it's posts. Although it wouldn't be the first time I've mistaken a person for a bot, I'm pretty sure about this one.
-
I've seen forumirule before on the 2DBoy forums. He has signature spam, but is too intelligent for the mods to delete. (Actually, I think moderation is falling apart at 2DBoy.)
-
Have I mentioned 2D Boy's 50% spam detection system? http://2dboy.com/forum/index.php/topic,2983.0.html
Somehow quite a few spambots find their way there. I'm not sure if those spambots are the same type that visit the forums here, but the thread seemed to be catching them a bit.
-
I guess this is no longer an "introduce yourself" section haha.
-
I guess this is no longer an "introduce yourself" section haha.
That's because you aren't introducing yourself!

I think BarbieCue is introducing themself as someone who is not someone who introduces themself by not introducing themself. ^^

Aha! Well, that explains everything.

I've been running undersea D&D games for awhile, now, starting with a play-by-post game and currently enjoying a chat-based game. Aquaria is simply an extension of my fascination with the sea. I also keep saltwater aquariums.
What I'd really like to see would be Aquaria for the iPad.

Hi.
Is it only seems so or this forum is really as dead as Mithalas? ._.
-
Hi.
Is it only seems so or this forum is really as dead as Mithalas? ._.
There is a lot of lurking in this forum = a lot of regulars are waiting for newbies to give some input or ask for help.
The problem is that this forum revolves around Aquaria - a superb game, but we all played it for a dozen times, talked about every recipe, treasure, boss and without new input from the developers (Aquaria 2? ;)) or modders (it's open source now and has a great editor, so where are all the modders?), we don't have much to talk about. Sadly. :'( So it's silently waiting...
-
That, and half of our posts here are spam. :/
-
Ah! That's how you can tell the forum isn't dead!
The spam goes away.
If this forum really was dead, spammers would be nesting in long-abandoned threads like giant eels in Mithalan apartments. We'd have a regular coral reef of the stuff built over every topic; more dangerous bastardry lurking in the background like starfish, only to leap out when you come close and spit bolts of crude browser-hijacking HTML at you...
-
(it's open source now and has a great editor, so where are all the modders?)
Their laptop power cord died!
I promise, the Modding subforum will be four hundred percent less dead when I have a working computer again...
-
...or modders (it's open source now and has a great editor, so where are all the modders?)
Well, I have an idea for a mod, but ignorance of C+ language (i cannot even compile ready game files from mercurial >.<) and OGL (game uses it, right?), lack of artistic skills (well, it's actually not so, as I can draw, but drawing people and such is a taboo for me - if I ever start drawing something at least close to human or other living being it's soon makes me incredibly shy and I either throw it to the garbage bin or rip to pieces before that >.<) and GLOBALITY of the idea really slows me down. I can't even begin to write my ideas on paper, because that thought "I'll never perform such a task" burdens me ._. Also one of the main reasons is music, because I do not want to use original soundtrack and can't create my own at least now, because I don't know software suitable for that (my friend uses FL studio to create backgrounds (or as it's called?) for his hip-hop songs, but there's no instruments\effects to write something like aquaria soundtrack), also I have no musical education, but, sometimes when I'm alone or walking that noisy street where nobody can hear it, I can mumble really nice song ::)
So almost all of my problems comes from lack of knowledge, not the skills...
-
The game uses a visual editor and lua (for scripts).
I think lua should be easier to understand than C++.

The game uses a visual editor and lua (for scripts).
I think lua should be easier to understand than C++.
But there should be major changes of interface (something instead of song-based form changing and more advanced equipment menu) and more importantly - in animation of the main character (diffirent number of limbs/moving parts). Also, about 1/3 of the mod should go above the water and main character must have form in which she can walk and run. So, can it be done with lua only?

These things can be done, yes. Some of them (the last two) are trickier than others, admittedly; but, on the bright side, I suspect some of them (the last two) are basically the same problem in different forms. Once you figure out how to monkey with the main character's abilities, her skeletal structure should be easy.

Hello. I tend to prefer anonymity, so you can call me by my screen name, Percival. (Of course, you already knew what it was, didn't you?) I'm 16, live in a quaint little apartment with my parents (AMAZING view of the sunset off the back porch, by the way), and as far as fun facts go.. Hm. I guess you could say I'm a bit of an earlybird when it comes to gaming. I tend to play until the crack of dawn, and then crash for the rest of the day. I guess that's it, so... Hi.
P.S: I almost forgot. I'd really appreciate it if you didn't call me Percy. I really dislike that. Same goes for "P", Perci, Perc, Perciv, and the like. If you're going to call me anything at all, then call me Percival. Please and Thank you.

Welcome to the forum Percival. Can't say there's a lot of activity, but I still have the silent hope that more polite people like you come along and blow some life in here.
If you have anything you want to talk about, feel free to make a new topic. =D
Oh and btw, I think your 'fun fact' applies to at least half of the gamers out there. x3
-
Or bump an old topic, I don't think what people are here would mind.
-
I'd personally prefer a new topic with a reference to an older topic, but that's just me. Let the old topics rest in peace. >.>

Well, here I am. You can call me Lilitu (surprise!).
Actually I only created an account here to contact the admins because I had an download issue after buying Aquaria.
But since I am here now (some days already) and my download issues are solved, why not stick around?! ;)
I am female, love gaming and reading but sadly I don't have so much time to do both as often and much as I would like to.
English is not my native language so please be nice if you don't understand what I write ;) But I'm always eager to learn.
Well then: Hello all of you!
-
Hello Lilitu!
Welcome to our lovely and quiet forums. ;)

Gday.
I'm Mihalis, but people usually (online) call me SD for short. :]
I first was introduce to Aqurais in '07 by a friend, and at the time, it was not known of the game would have a hardcopy release (on the DS was my hope - the control scheme would be perfect! :D) so I waited. And then a week ago, I got it. Didn't want to wait anymore! xD
It's just magical.
Am a guy. Greek Cypriot born and raised in London, and pretty much travel around now.
Love drawing.
Yeah. Hai. :]
-
Hey there, Mithalas? :o
;)
-
I *knew* someone would mention that! xD
It's a greek name. :D
Hai there! ^_^

Hard copy = physical version, like on a disk or something.
And it didn't happen! (at least, I don't think it happened!) But he bought Aquaria anyway, because it's awesome.

Hello, I'm Steven. I played Aquaria back in November and it stole about 9 hours a day for a long time. I managed to get 26/27 of the Steam achievements so far and loved the game with a unique personal obsession. I'm a 22 years old guy from Minnesota, and I can (and will) use a Star Wars reference for just about any analogy, metaphor, or simile. I'm an undergraduate in Economics and maintain a touch-and-go dream of being an online graphic novel author and artist.

I'm Insani, I just got Aquaria a little while ago (on steam). (From a friend who promised to get it for me about half a year ago, and finally got around to it, haha.)
I'm in my teenaged years, and am really enjoying Aquaria so far.

Hi all put countless hours into aquaria and love the sound track. one of my favourite features of the game is the jukebox mod/player. love putting on a track and getting lost in the verse.

Hello!
It was in a humble indie bundle a few months ago and works great. Dunno if it's available anywhere else, though...
-
Darn. Would be nice to play on my tablet, though at this point I'm not sure my first-gen Nexus 7 can handle Aquaria.
