Hey Alec, just wondering if there's any news on the soundtrack coming out? I'm still itching to buy it to support you and Derek! Oh, plus the music was pretty damn good. ^-^
If you guys have decided upon not releasing it, would you mind if I uploaded the whole thing to YouTube? I already have most of it up already but I decided against posting the full thing out of respect of you guys eventually releasing it!

-
I'd like to release it, its proving to be a difficult project to finish.
I have this song that's like... mostly written. I wanted Jenna to sing it. I also have a number of remixes that friends did.
I don't know though.
-
We want Jenna to sing it too! ;)
-
Even a download version with pdfs for the songs list/other stuff?
-
a little something (http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1063919/aq-ftd-prev-01.mp3)
-
Sold! To the man in the glasses! Let me give you moneys! :o
I love the melodious piano with bits of the main theme snuck in under the radar so you don't realise that the reason you like the song is because you've heard it before in a different tone. ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ ^-^ ^-^
I've listened to that 15 second clip at least 8 times already.
-
Please tell me we're gonna get that and the soundtrack...that clip was sooo unfair...it's like teasing a starving person with food. It's so beautiful...here's hoping we can hear the full thing some day.

The fact that he's working on it is probably a good sign ;)

When I click the link I get a warning that files.getdropbox.com is a "Reported Attack Site!"

When I click the link I get a warning that files.getdropbox.com is a "Reported Attack Site!"
Not true. :P
-
But it is, I really do get that warning.
It links to this: http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?client=Firefox&hl=en-US&site=http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1063919/aq-ftd-prev-01.mp3
I don't know, just saying...
-
Yeah, I know its true that the warning is there, but that particular link isn't an attack.
I guess other people have used their dropboxes to attack before?
-
Worked for me. :) I'm in Opera though..

One word: YUUUUUUSSSSSS~~!!!! :) :D ;D 8) ^-^ :-*

That's seriously brilliant, even though it's only 15s XD
Just throwing out an idea here, obviously the music from Aquaria doesn't have much singing in it. You have a brilliant style, and you really don't need to back that by relating this in any way to Aquaria. You should consider making some completely original tracks in the awesome style you've demonstrated so far, try to get Jenna as a singer, and I'd hell buy it, be great to add to my mp3 rotation as something beautiful, and somewhat different, I love the haunting yet uplifting vibe you have going.
Seriously, ever considered a career in the music industry? :P
-
Seriously, ever considered a career in the music industry? :P
I've actually been writing some more... rock/pop type songs for an album I'd like to do.
Not sure who'd sing it, but yeah... if the Aquaria OST is a success then I'd love to release more music commercially. I was thinking the next step would be a compilation of music from other games that I've written for.
-
Sounds good. :) I definitely buy everything you have your hands in, preferably music and games. ;)
-
Sounds good. :) I definitely buy everything you have your hands in, preferably music and games. ;)
But not the licensed condoms? DARN.
-
Why would you put your hand in a condom... :-\
But, yes, yes yes yes, I want moar music and stuff. :D
-
I'll take the condoms
-
ehh... so, all aquria ost is that 15 secs track? >_>
-
That's just a sample, there will be more songs.
The ones that are already in the game and maybe even more.
-
The OST is going to be 2 discs... it'll be a lot of music! :)
-
I cant wait, 2 discs! I hope Holowka composes some extra tracks like mentioned earlier. That small clip is ve~ry promising. Jenna Sharpe was singing in the original OST, but am I right, we hear S.D. Davis' singing more in the extras?
Although, music from the Aquaria works finely without singing too. I just love those melodies and themes.
(More hype...!) If it's going to be a "physical" OST (not digital only), how about this small booklet/"manual" including original sketches and designs with it? :D
It's quite surprising that small developers like with Aquaria and Trine can create such a rich "musical world" :)
-
There is a word for that: a talent :P
-
The OST will include a 12-page booklet with shiny new art and notes on the tracks. :)
-
Alec just made me drool. =F
-
Yays! Can't wait >_>
-
Alec, how far along is the soundtrack? What do WE have to do to get the soundtrack out faster? I have some money in my wallet and it's starting to burn through. The teaser you posted sounds great. Maybe you could throw us some scraps instead of 15sec crumbs?
-
Alec just made my birthday that much better. :-*

Hmm... "pledging" to buy the physical copy would be a reassuring thing. I'm going to have to invest a fair chunk of my own $$s to get them produced, so its a little bit nerve wracking for me. Hopefully I can at least break even. :-X
Alec just made my birthday that much better. :-*
Sweet! :D
-
Alec, if you giving you a portion of the cost of the CD upfront is a way to get it up, maybe that's what you should do. Some of us bought the game on release date. We've been waiting for well over a year for a nice soundtrack.
-
Aw, no digital purchases?
-
It'll be released as a high quality digital download as well.
-

Not sure if that's necessary, but if I knew that there are a certain number of people who will definitely buy the physical copy, that would reassure me a bit.
Jenna's going in Friday to record vocals for the new bonus track, so progress is being made. :)
-
Woop woop! You had my money before Aquaria even came out Alec. ^-^
-
Can't say what Hiro said, but surely I would buy a physical copy.
Heck, your music would be the first music I'd have obtained legally. XD
-
One of the developers of this great game, composing awesome music for it and to the cancer fundraiser... and now even curing lifestyle pirates... ^^
The light is...too bright... Can't.... see... through this... halo...
Yep, definitely going to buy the physical version, because you can always transfer it to digital form to your computer. I'm just wondering how much it's hoing to cost. Surely enough to bring bread to your table (well, dunno about that even if I hope so), but not too much or stingy people will be scared away from that experience...
And Jenna is featuring it? That sounds great, although I remember someone mentioning Samantha Durrie Davis too. Just curious here. Good luck with the project.
-
Yeah, pricing is a tough one.
I'm thinking of something around $20-25, since with 2Cds and the 12 page color booklet and limited print run, its a collector's item. :)
The downloadable copy would likely cost less, since it wouldn't have to cover the cost of print materials.
-
Jenna went into the studio! Here's a new teaser (http://bit.ly/PGthn).
-
:O I want to preorder... Like right now. DIBS PREORDERING STUFF

The teasers kill me. @_@

The teasers are well named... ::)

Long-time reader/player, first time poster (http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6016/29161164nc8.gif)
Having played through Aquaria and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of it (well, except Simon Says :( ), I've been back time to time to read up on things. Whether it was news on the development of Aquaria 2 ( :( ), Marian, Spelunky, or otherwise, I'd just browse once in a while. However, I wanted to specifically register to post in this thread to say I would absolutely put down a pre-order on a Soundtrack. I've been listening to the gamerip that's floating around, and I'd really love to have something official, especially the hinted at bonus material with the teasers.
tl;dr: Soundtrack? Count me in. Please :D

You have my $25!
I'm also considering rebuying the game... since I don't have my receipt anymore.. is there a way to get the game again... I can tell you everything you might need to know to look up my original order.

You can just pm me your info.
Email and order reference # are most helpful. 8)

I did an interview with a composer friend, Kenley Kristofferson. He does a really interesting podcast on game music composition.
Check it out here: http://www.intothescore.com/
-
Wow, that was really neat and informative interview. Great to hear that the OST will be here soon, I've been waiting ever since I first played the demo last year (have since bought the game and beaten it, and enjoy the music in Winamp).

Video Game soundtracks are probably the most complex form of soundtracks I think exist out there today. There are a ton of areas to consider when you choose to present your music onto a track based medium. Why? Because most of the music we hear in games loop, seamlessly blend into the next on the character's whim and change "on the moment" based on the player's action even on the same track.
Aquaria's soundtrack is one that I can find to be one of the simpler soundtrack releases compared to all the other game soundtracks I have. By no means am I saying the soundtrack will be a walk in the park to produce, but when compared to a lot of other game soundtracks out there, the music is simple in it's presentation in the game.
Of course, the most typical handling of music in Aquaria, like a lot of other games, is through the use of loops. The music will loop itself when it reaches the end, and the transition between the end and beginning are made to seamlessly integrate into one another. The most common handling of video game soundtracks is usually to have the music loop two times. Sometimes the music will fade out by the end of the first loop, but the most common fade out I find in soundtracks occurs when the music loops itself for a second time and fades out in the opening seconds of the second loop, providing two full plays of the song. While not entirely essential to have full two play throughs of the track, the most essential is at least having a full play through of the track so we can hear it unedited.
That's my experience on how soundtrack companies produce their tracks, now things get tricky. The track to track transition.
This is where a lot of my critical points in my soundtrack reviews stem from. The transition between one track to another I find to be very crucial element to the music's presentation. For instance, Blizzard released the official StarCraft Soundtrack during Blizzcon 2007. I was ecstatic about it because I couldn't find any way of accessing the music files from the game itself. When I finally listened to what I heard, I was let down. The way the transitions worked was that the ending to one track was integrated into the opening of the other track. So if you wanted to listen to track 8, you would instantly hear the last 5 seconds of track 7 abruptly before the music of Track 8 started playing over it. I found this type of transition annoying and didn't feel it represented the tracks as their own individual piece like they were presented in the game. However, the music in Aquaria does have it's instances where each track fades into the other when the player goes from one area to another, so maybe this is the route the soundtrack will take? My opinion regarding this soundtrack is the hope that each track piece will be presented as a stand alone music piece where it doesn't rely on the next track to end. Just an opinion of course. :)
But what about other areas like what music will actually be in the soundtrack, and what music won't be? If you've ever seen the original Resident Evil 2 soundtrack release, you pretty much know what I'm aiming at. The first CD release had all the pieces of music that were essential to the plot like boss encounters, room music that you spend most of your time in, opening and closing themes. It wasn't until later that they released a second CD entitled "Complete Track" that contains all the remaining music that didn't make it into the previous soundtrack. So the question in regards to Aquaria is if all the music from the game will be able to be presented on a release? Which music pieces will be left out? And on a related note, what bonus material will there possibly be? One of the neat little bonuses of the Resident Evil 2 "Complete Track" release was the inclusion of not only the remaining music and stinger pieces, but also a second mini disc containing a ton of sound effects from the game, and an interview with the composers conducted in a........jungle?
Either way, I'm insanely curious on how the Aquaria Soundtrack will be handled. It's without a doubt one of my most anticipated soundtrack releases to date and I hope it all works out. Heck, I'm more excited about Aquaria's soundtrack than the 5-disc Bayonetta soundtrack that's been announced!
-
I can answer some of your questions...
There are no cut tracks, its a 2 disc set and it has -everything-. (unless I accidentally forget something, but I'm going to make sure I don't :P)
The tracks loop and fade, unless its a track that is meant to only be heard once. They don't fade into each other. Some tracks loop in slightly different ways, it depends on what makes sense for the track. (i.e. # of loops is different depending on the track etc)
In terms of bonus content, I wrote a big 9 minute song that features Jenna Sharpe singing new vocals. Its probably the most epic Aquaria-related song yet. :)
The CD will also include remixes by some of my friends... how many is still up in the air, but at least 2 and maybe as many as 4.
In terms of packaging, I'm looking at doing an 8 page booklet that features new art by Derek Yu and Katie de Sousa, as well as lyrics for the new song and "Lost to the Waves". In addition, there will be a poster that has full-color Aquaria art on one side and black and white behind the scenes info on the back - including notes on many of the tracks, concept art, some notation for a coupe of the themes, etc.
The music has been mastered by Danny B (http://dbsoundworks.com) who is a super talented composer in his own right. He made sure the tracks are of consistent volume without losing the distinct qualities of the mix.
Its a huuuge project, but its almost done! :)
-
Sounds promising Alec! :D
Really really can't wait, I even saved up the bit of money I can actually use.
-
You have to feel the anticipation swapping to you from all over the world! Do you feel it, Alec?! :)
-
Holy cow Alec, thank you for that detailed response. I'm feeling more confident about this soundtrack release than SD's Tracker Tube!
-
Haha! I'm with everyone else: I can't wait! :D
-
@ Jeyl: I think with a game like Aquaria, where every track is, ultimately, a variation on a single original theme or chord series, one of the things you can do, at least with the in-game presentation, is to essentially "DJ" the transitions -- distort the tempo a little on both sides to sync things up, and let both tracks play the same part of the theme at the same time, as you fade one into the other, and transition to the new tempo... Of course, in presenting on a CD, this makes it tricky to decide whether to put the track break.
-
I think I prefer having clean track breaks.. Makes it easier to fit them into a random shuffle thing.
Also, great news Alec. :D :D You know we've all been as keen as you are for this since day one (more if its possible. ;) ). And I just happen to have lots of moneys right now. ;D
-
Tonight is a long night of the soul as I am verifying everything 10x times to make sure its ready to go to print in the morning!
aaaaiieeeee
-
Awesome!
Maybe let someone else check it too? It might be better, seeing if you would miss something you'd probably miss it every time you check.
-
Awesome!

Yeah, I've had other people checking it throughout its development. :P
I've had my girlfriend reread stuff like 3 times. (!)
-
... and so eventually we'll buy a mysterious soundtrack called "Aguaria" ;D
Hehe, I have been waiting for this OST since I bought the game years and half ago. Booklet and all, and the price seems to be very reasonable - although somekind of customs duty will be included to the price. Damn, join EU and we would get rid of that! :P
-
Isn't the duty on imports just to put imports on a level playing field with goods produced within the eurozone, which generally have had Value Added Tax applied at various steps along their production line? So if we were part of the EU, and had harmonized tax structures, you'd still see the same total price; it would just appear to be a higher "sticker" price, and less tax. (Possibly this is an overly technical issue for an average person. I happen to be heavily involved in politics where I live, have an M.B.A., and have taught economics in the past. Tax wonkery: I has it.)
-
Sounds great! Thanks in advance. :)
-
K, order is in... I have to check digital proofs of the print stuff. Then order is go...
Had fun hanging out at the CD place today. :)
Also kinda stressed! I hope the masters aren't scratched or anything. :-X
-
Yay! I'm going to pre-order/order this for my birthday... which isn't for almost another month, but oh well ;). And lol, buying stuff for my own birthday, how selfish. But yay, Official Aquaria Soundtrack with all new beautimous tracks and art! Thanks for all your hard work!
-
Email me when I can buy it? :D
C'mon, we're buds right? ^-^
I can't believe its finally happening... I've waited so long... You know it was the music from the trailor that made me fall in love with this? And that was like a year before it was released too.
-
Oh jeez, I didn't expect this to ever be released. Hooray! Will be buying as soon as it's available.
-
We'll keep you guys posted, don't worry ^-^
-
Wait, so remind me how much I'm forking over for the ost again? I assume you have a finalised number now. :)
-
You nearly made me drool all over the keyboard!
-
Do we have a link on where to find this yet? /want to buy it now

I went over the masters again on the weekend, fixed a few things. The CD company had already shipped the previous masters to the factory, but they were cool with me printing these new ones instead.
I gave the prints final approval, so everything is in the hands of the printers now...
I've gone through many versions of this thing trying to get it right, hehe. Hope it turns out good. :'(

Excited!

*highfives!*
-
That picture...so simple...so beautiful...
I tried not to think about it, but it only spread through everything I did...
Sing me to sleep.. ;)
-
Yay~ Can't wait ^^
-
I should have the discs by the 9th or earlier, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
Can't wait to see how they turned out. 8)
(hopefully good, otherwise I'll be broke lol)
-
Sounds great!
So , eventually Alec has piles of discs, and he's sticking stamps to them..."this one goes to Canada, this one too, and this one, this goes to Finland, this goes to Germany..." ;D
It's still obvious that it's your money which is burning there, not ours (yet, though 8)) so I kinda understand your concern. I'm not too sure what kind of rights and liabilities that company which makes the discs has, after all isnt it your "subcontractor" now...? You make it sound like sending skratched discs to the customer would be legal, and it sounds odd ???
But well, as long as we can buy it and listen some Aquaria music, everything will be absolved.
-

I'm not worried about them scratching the disc, but the way these places work is they take your masters and replicate it exactly as they are. That way if something goes wrong its your fault. (because you burned something incorrectly)
It turns out the rate at which you burn a cd and the type of cd (e.g. brand) determines which players it'll actually play on without skipping. The moral of the story is never burn anything at Max rate. I ended up using 8x, hopefully that will be good enough....
-
It's my understanding that the issue with the quality of the master is where we get the term "gold master," or "going gold" -- the high quality media they used to burn to for Release To Manufacturing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#RTM) happened to be golden in color. (It might well have had gold foil in it, rather than aluminum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc#Physical_details). Gold is extremely non-reactive, and in particular it does not oxidize easily.) Or at least, that's what the old-timers at Microsoft told me when I was an intern there in 1999. (These days, they just transmit a disk image, rather than sending a physical copy.)
-
Yeah, it would make millions of times more sense to me if the CD printing company/factory took a disk image. That way it wouldn't get damaged in transit, and the factory could burn at whatever the industry standard rate is. I wouldn't be freaked out at all if I could do that. I could just transfer my wav files to a disc image, listen to it a couple times and know it wouldn't get messed up.
OH WELL. A lot of companys are still catching up to current tech I guess.
-
Reliably creating an audio CD image is slightly more complicated than just putting in the WAV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV#Audio_CDs) files; it's just that the most common WAV encoding happens to be the same as what's on CDs. CDs use the RedBook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Book_%28audio_CD_standard%29) standard, which is Stereo Signed 16-bit Pulse Code Modulation. (That's the default for a WAV, but not every WAV is in it. Though of course, these days, quite a few CD players actually know how to read data CDs that contain WAVs or MP3s.) I used to do a bunch of work converting between audio formats -- I was working on speech recognition software, noise reduction to clean up audio so voices were clearer, etc...
In any case, I believe on a Mac you can create a CD image by using the Disk Utility to create a blank disk image, using appropriate options (Size to "177 MB (CD-ROM 8 cm)", Partitions to "CD/DVD", Image Format to "DVD/CD Master"), and then once you have your blank, pick it as the target for a burn from iTunes. Subsequently you can burn unlimited copies from that image without having iTunes redo the process of encoding the audio and creating the headers with the track-break info. (I may be mis-remembering exactly how that's accomplished, but I'm pretty sure it can be done...)
-
Yeah, its not hard. Most burning programs let you burn to image instead of disc.
-
I should have the discs by the 9th or earlier, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
What's about digital release date? ;P
-
Still, I do like how a company still likes to use tangible substances.

How's the batch of soundtrack discs coming along? It's already 10th November in Malaysia... Been eyeballing this page for updates since yesterday :P
In any case, looking forward to it, yo!!! :)

Excited doesn't begin to describe it... :D
-
Where is the cheerleader-smiley when you need it? ;)
-
Wow, that looks great! I can't wait to order my copy ;D
-
Holy Krishna. O:
-
Holy sh-
Briefly, this is the Main Course of the year - and the set simply looks awesome. Team has worked really much for this project... (if this is a joke I'll swim over Atlantic ocean and come to say hello :-X)
2 discs with full color labels! An eight page booklet featuring new art and lyrics!!! An eight panel poster featuring visuals from the game! Notes on composing the tracks, score snippets and more! Purchase options, including having your poster signed!
In addition to the new song, the track also features three new remixes by other indie game music artists + as an added bonus, a work-in-progress seven minute “Marian” track has also been included.
Christmas came early this year, huh ^-^
How, how on earth I can afford this, this must be much over 20 $ or I'm a dwarf :'(
-
DO WANT
-
Whoops, the Marian track is actually 5:25, not 7 minutes! (fixed the blog)
Glad you guys are excited. :D
-
.... :o
:) :D ;D
Excited? EXCITED?!
WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I'M EXCITED?!?!
::)
:-*
Why does Nov 14th have to be the scholarship statistics exam..? :'(
-
Is there a pre-order link somewhere? Or are you just going to be taking orders live on Saturday, contemporaneously with the jam session, and packaging them as they come in? Also, should folks just come to the Infinite Ammo website on Saturday, or is there a particular URL we should use that will go live at some point? Also also, is there an hour (and time zone) specified in that blog post that I am just failing to see?
Now I just have to figure out whether I'm free Saturday night. I think kinda not...
-
The order will go up by Saturday. Might launch before, might not... depending on how we end up doing it.
But yeah, we will be shipping it out on Saturday on cam along with the pj jam, so it should be pretty fun. :) You'll get to see your order getting packed in real time.
-
Haven't stopped by in a while lately, but heard about this and got really happy. So glad to see this finally happened! Congrats, Alec. It must be gratifying to see such a gorgeous package come together. I'll be watching via cam for sure and will hopefully manage to order a copy or three for some friends, as well as my own! All of us have loved the game and would dearly like to own a physical piece of it.
-
The order will go up by Saturday. Might launch before, might not... depending on how we end up doing it.
Here's hoping so, as we're celebrating my brother's birthday on Saturday and I doubt I'll be around for the jam itself. I'm also hoping someone may be able to record that for those who can't make it, as well. Man, that's a lot of hoping (http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6016/29161164nc8.gif)
-
Yeah I'm hoping it gets recorded in case it clashes with my exam..
Any idea what time it'll be happening? It might well be after my exam (its an afternoon exam, but I'm in NZ which is about as early in the time zone thing as you can be xD )
-
well ideally all day, but i'm not sure when that day will start or end. :)
might be like... 1-4pm or it could be 10am-4pm (CST)
-
Yikes, 10am CST. That's 8AM PST :( Please no.
-
Someone want to test the ordering system early?
I'll sign the copy that you order and ship it out tonight, the link is up here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34429617
and if you have any feedback, problems or suggestions for the ordering system, let me know!
-
I'd love to test it, but the page is telling me that the item is sold out so I can't add it to my cart! :)
-
Already sold the first copy!
-
Rats, foiled again!
I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!
-
The Shop is live: http://www.etsy.com/shop/infiniteammo
-
Aaaaand, ordered the signed edition :)
-
Aaaaand, ordered the signed edition :)
Woot, I will go sign that right now...
-
Awesome! :D Very much looking forward to getting it. I have a feeling the disc will be in my rig 24/7 for a while, just as I did with the gamerip for so long (I'm almost tempted to grab a non-signed copy too, to keep the signed copy for when you get famous :P)
And, two other things!
(1) I know you mentioned it somewhere, but how many copies are being distributed? I have some friends who I think may want it, but I'm not sure how much I need to rush them :P
(2)Fairly offtopic, but I was thinking that as time goes on, it might be a neat idea to encourage donations for Marian by putting up tracks as people donate or have an IA fanclub type thing. Perhaps something where people could donate to the project to become part of a Marian/IA fanclub, and then once a week or so, some exclusive content would be put up, from new concept art, to a song from the soundtrack, an inside look at things. Not sure if it's a good idea or not, but I know I'd certainly participate, and it would likely spur a lot of extra donations :) It's rare I try to get so involved in stuff like this, but for I really love the work you do and how much of yourself you put into your games.
-
For (2) if you donated to Marian, you should already be in the "Friend of Marian" list. I think I will release some tracks on there as that seems to be what people are most interested in right now. (nobody wants the game spoiled for them)
See: http://infiniteammo.ca/games/

Aye, I donated when the Friends of Marian post was made (comment #5 (http://infiniteammo.ca/blog/marian-teaser/#5) :D). I just liked the idea of ongoing stuff as well. Good to hear you're thinking of releasing tracks for it!
Edit: Also: is there any chance of a companion download of the soundtrack for those who buy the signed version (preferably FLAC ;))? If you need help mirroring or hosting or something to make it a reality, I have lots of bandwidth and storage space going unused right now. Sorry for the many messages today, I've been waiting for this for a long time, and it's made me excited.

I don't mind releasing a digital download at some point. I'm not really sure of the logistics at this point...
I think I'll go through CDBaby to get it on iTunes at some point.

This is likely to be the last physical CD I ever purchase. The beautiful album artwork sold me on it some time ago. Any chance you could release a jpg (or whatever) of the cover so I can assign it to the tracks in iTunes? Or is it already floating around somewhere?
-
Glad to hear you guys like the packaging! :) I'll see if I can wrassle up a JPG in the next few days...
BTW I'm working on this concept album that I'd like to do either solo or with Jenna, if you guys think you might be interested in that let me know. It'd be a fun project to tackle after this one. It'd be a more stripped down sound, with lyrics/vocals.

YES!
(and please sign my copy now too. :))

Absolutely! Hell yes.

I should be asleep, but for some reason I'm awake - so I got it signed and personalized. :)
-
Hooray!
Go to sleep now! You have a full day soon! ;)
-
BTW did you order two copies?
I keep seeing a few orders coming in as two, I know one was a mistake on their part...
-
Is there a final time decided for the jam, or any word on if it can be recorded? In this case, a sibling's birthday > the jam. But just barely :v
ps. Looking forward to the possibility of digital distribution. It'd mean I'd get to listen to it sooner, presumably with album art, in lossless, and not have to rip it once I get it. No downside :) If you do go through with digital distribution, though, I'd like to request there be an alternative to iTunes. I've always refused to let that bloaty app on any of my machines.
-
Ordered mine!
Also because you seem to have spent a lot of time doing the soundtrack properly, I've ordered a signed copy. To be honest i would have spent $30 (£22.13 according to paypal) on a burnt cd with Aquaria spelt wrong on it.
Will attempt to tune in to the jam as well, if i can get the times right (7pm i think it is in the UK).
-
One copy of 'Aquaria - Original Soundtrack - Signed Edition' ordered, ~30 USD which is about 24 €.
Hehe exciting day isnt it? ;D
-
Ordered the CD.
Also and FYI.... this is like the first time I bought a CD... all by myself!
I feel so... non-piratey.
-
Haha. Good on you Alpha. Yeah I know what you mean, I don't tend to buy CDs, usually I just have stuff my siblings own or I've downloaded a few songs from games/anime I like.
These CDs are going with me in my car to University next year, booyaa~.
Alec, are you offering us /more/ music? AND the possibility of more Jenna? Lyrics and vocals?
I'm taking it that there was some encouraging success with the Aquaria album. :D I'd be down for some more. Heck, what with the free jam and fun (and extra lovely signatures) I went for the more expensive OST to support the developers. ;) Even though it did total to almost $50 NZ. :-X
-
Did anyone happen to cap the jam for those who weren't able to see it?
-
If you go here

Look below the video frame and the whole thing is recorded there.

Aha -- was wondering where the URL had been. I figured it'd be posted here as well as on the IA site, but I guess it was only the latter. Thanks muchly

Hello all,
I am a regular visitor on OCRemix, and as someone already pointed (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=1912.0) out, there is a new remix about Aquaria. It is there I read about the release of the official soundtrack CD.
I have played Aquaria some time ago, loved the game, and one thing that I can still remind clearly were the amazing sound tracks.
Only in rare occasions I actually buy music, and this is definitely one of them! :D
Can't wait, and hope the shipment doesn't take too long (one of those times I wished I lived in North-America...)
Thank you for this early Christmas present ^-^
Mark
-
Well, Alec. You certainly impressed me with your dedication and honesty towards your product so I purchased two of the signature editions of the soundtrack. Good luck with your future endeavors!

Thanks so much! :) It feels really great to have it "done". (we still have lots of shipping to do ^-^)

Hm, I make it sound tedious but it's actually fun. And you all have such awesome names :D

I hope Alec is paying the Packing Valkyries somehow. Cook them dinner or something! :)

He pays in love and music. :-* 8)
Thank you for this early Christmas present ^-^
Shipping to me is 4-6 weeks (says the mail I just got), so I hope it'll be a Christmas present at all. ;)
-
Hm, I make it sound tedious but it's actually fun. And you all have such awesome names :D
I FEEL AS IF MY PRIVACY IS GONE D:
-
I ordered one this morning! ;D
-
I ordered a signed edition yesterday. I can't wait! :D
-
Oh, but wasn't there supposed to be a digital edition as well? I'm not much for CDs...
-
A digital release on iTunes may be in the near future, but we're pretty swamped right now :(
-
:D But don't you already know my name from when I bought Aquaria anyway? Oh well. We already know Alec's name anyway. ;)
It sounds like this has been at least a moderate success which is heartening. I like when people that deserve attention and kudos get it (oh, and money, that's always useful for the whole living thing). ^-^
-
I bought a signed copy.

Well, unless he signs my hard drive, I'll be happy with my signed copies. :)

I ordered one this morning! ;D
Totally on the bandwagon with the signed copy.
Um, iTunes does allow you to rip CDs and put them on your iPod last time I checked. iTunes may be cheaper and their delivery time is nearly instant, but how can you pass up real CDs and beautiful artwork?!? Kids these days. :P
-
After some unfortunate credit card issues, finally ordered it!
Can't wait to listen to it! ^-^

I was kind of hoping for anything other than iTunes so I might just go with the physical copy, despite having absolutely no music CDs otherwise. Just like keeping my stuff digital and neat.

Whoah! Hahaha, I wonder why that is?? :o
We've been experiencing a few weird things like that with Paypal. Another gentleman ordered to a Canadian address, which we ship to as a letter through Canada Post, and Paypal told him UPS was handling it...
I guarantee you your orders did not ship in 1970. They should be right on time :D
-
Isn't 1970 like the first point in time computer clocks started counting from? I'm sure I've seen the year before.
EDIT: Yepyep
Unix time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time), or POSIX time, is a system for describing points in time, defined as the number of seconds elapsed since midnight proleptic Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) of January 1, 1970, not counting leap seconds.

HOLY SHI--

Some weird Lost stuff is happening to the Aquaria OST's.
-
Planned Mailing Date: 1 Jan 1970
Hah! Somebody forgot to assign a value into their time_t (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_t) variable. (The ISO C library defines time_t as a number -- usually a long int -- representing the number of seconds since midnight on Jan 1, 1970.)
Dec 31, 1969 is what you'd get if the time_t was initialized as -1 instead of 0. (And a lot of processors store integers in the Two's Complement format, which means that initializing the binary to all 1s represents -1, while all 0s is 0.)
-
Haha, I have no idea why this is happening.
Does PayPal have a y2k bug or something? Whoops, just saw the UNIX post.
In any case, if you got an email about shipping it means we sent it out the next day. So no worries. :)
I think we've sold about 140 orders and shipped about 110 of those.
We should break even in roughly 60-80 orders, so spread the word if you have friends or family that you think might want to get a copy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/infiniteammo).
ALSO: We're thinking about moving to a new service that charges us less per order. (Etsy has some silly fees) We're also looking into a digital release.
-
I was just starting to wonder why I havent got such a weird post yet, but... Here it is! ;D
Planned Mailing Date: Dec 31, 1969
The Post Office Department of the Government of Canada was founded in 1867 and was rebranded Canada Post in the late 1960s
... I guess they just simply forgot to update their calendar after that episode...
But aw, it arrives after my birthday and Christmas... and just my luck all offices are closed because of New year holiday.
-
Heh, mine is from 31/12/1969 as well. Sounds fun. ;)
-
Hope you guys have your time machines spooled up...
-
Alec, have you looked into using a PayPal shopping cart (https://merchant.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?&cmd=_render-content&content_ID=merchant/shopping_cart)?
On a side note, Infinite Ammo (http://infiniteammo.ca/) appears to be down.

yeah so is TIGsource :(

They should be back up now. They're all on the same server.

I initially tweeted it, but I figure this may be a better place to ask. Is there a chance that those of us who already purchased may be able to get some money off of the digital download? I'm super eager to listen, and I have no idea how long it will be until my copy arrives. I plan to donate more in general to the marian project in the future, but right now I'd rather have the $10 for other things.
Even if not on a mass scale, you could, upon request from an email address registered with a CD purchase, toss out a link or something? Dunno--thought I'd ask!
edit: You don't seem to be active today, so I guess I will just go out on a limb and buy it. If I get a refund on it, cool. If not, oh well. Tough day calls for Aquaria OST.
edit2: For anyone who cares, if you order the FLAC version, you CAN still download the MP3 version if you don't feel like transcoding it yourself, despit what the site says. And, while I can't test it, it would seem that if you (accidentally or not) chose MP3 and decide you wanted the FLAC, that's also possible. If you look at the source of the download page, you will find a link in this format: http://popplers5.bandcamp.com/download/album?enc=ENCODINGMETHOD&id=YOURID&payment_id=YOURPAYMENTID&sig=YOURISG
Basically, you can just search for "?enc=" and go from there. Replace -only- the field ?enc=BLAH with one of the following, as listed on their site: "mp3-320", "mp3-v0", "mp3-v2", "aac-hi", "aac-lo", "vorbis", "flac", "alac"
And, obviously this won't work if you haven't already purchased it -- this is in no way a method to bypass purchasing this amazing album. This is also helpful if you don't want/can't have flash, as it lets you do a normal direct-download
@Alec: Feel free to let me know if you want this removed for some reason. It seemed like something people would want to know, and I found it very useful for downloading it straight to my laptop after purchasing on my PC.
-
I was thinking about offering coupon codes to people who have already ordered the physical CD.
Its just a logistics problem, so I want to think about it a liiiittle bit first.
Edit: Yeah, I think I can just email blast everyone download codes, but I need to figure out all the details first.
If that doesn't work, we'll set up some email for existing customers to contact to get a download code.
Edit2: But right now I'm pretty buzzed, so I think we'll look into it tomorrow. :P
-
Does anyone know if FLAC is supported in QuickTime and iTunes? I kinda think not. It has support for a format called "FLC", but I think that's a video format (related to AutoDesk), not an audio format. So it's possible that if I wanted the downloadable version, I'd need to get it in MP3 (or AAC if that's available).

They also offer ALAC -- Apple's lossless codec.

I bet you could install a codec to FLAC support somehow...

You know, I bought this CD blindly, I don't even know how long it'll take for it to come here. o_o, halp?

If your order has already been shipped, we have a tracking number. International orders will probably take about a month.
Usually when your order ships, PayPal will notify you and provide you with the number.
-
It said 4-6 weeks to Germany, so I guess it's the same to the Netherlands.
-
Alec, the new track with Jenna and the "Bonus Round 4" marian sample are everything I hoped they would be! I'd say the only thing I didn't enjoy as much as I expected was one or two of the Bonus Round Remixes, but overall it came out really awesome.
-
This doesn't really seem like it deserves its own thread, so: Does anyone (Alec, or someone who may have randomly saved it) still happen to have the two-way interview that is linked from the original "7 Days of Aquaria (http://www.bit-blot.com/?p=30)" postings?
-
Have it. Any good place to upload its 36,8 MB, now that WHFF is gone?

One more question for you, Alec :o I'd say my favorite part of the entire soundtrack is the portion of "Fear The Dark" from about 4:50 to 5:20, where it has Jenna harmonizing with herself to a modified version of "Lost to the Waves". It is goddamn awesome. I was curious, do you have that backing track separated anywhere? I'd like to maybe use it as a cell phone ringer.
Also, if they exist, putting out a download of the karaoke versions of "Fear the Dark" and "Lost to the Waves" would be really cool -- I have a friend who would love to sing it and put it up on youtube :)
-

Ah, good idea... I'll look at creating an instrumental version.
-
Just registered to ask a quick question: Bought the soundtrack within an hour or so of it going live on Etsy and have been waiting with baited breath for it to get shipped in. I got an email from Etsy telling me that my package was going to be shipped Canada Post (6-12 business days) and giving me a tracking number, but when I go to Canada Post's website and put that tracking number in it doesn't show it as having been shipped yet- just that "an order has been electronically submitted". Reassure me that this is just website wonkiness and my package was in fact shipped!
-
Thinking about it, I just realized I never received any kind of email related to shipping after my order confirmation. Is there any way I can check to see what the status on it is? It's nice listening to the digital version, but I'm excited to get my physical copy. Let me know what info you need, if any, to check on it.
Also, awesome news on the instrumental versions :D I've had Fear The Dark on repeat the past day or so..I can't help it!
-
Forgot one other question before--if I or a friend wanted to put Fear the Dark up on google, would that present an issue, or is it OK to do so?
-

Everyone seems to think their copy will arrive within a week, but its very unlikely.
International small packet surface shipping isn't super fast. (to the states it could be anywhere from 1-3 weeks, international 4-6)
Maybe everyone's expecting it sooner because they're used to stuff shipping from the US?

Yay, that's good to hear at least. I was just worried it had fallen through the cracks since I didn't have a confirmation like others. Thanks for checking for me!
-
Yeah, that was the source of my question too- Canada Post's website seems to be trying to tell me that it hasn't shipped yet, and I never got a shipping confirmation myself, either.
-
Since it#s arriving on Dec 31 1969 or Jan 1 1970, it should be already shipped. ;)
-
Yeah, odds are you guys weren't there to pick it up in 1970, so they all got returned. :P
EDIT: Also, I took photos of every single package we shipped, so if there's ever a problem we can like... double-confirm that it went out.
EDIT2: Woot, ByteJacker! http://www.bytejacker.com/blog/indie-soundtrack-double-feature-machinarium-and-aquaria
-
You may want to contact ByteJacket--they don't seem to realize that if you order the whole digital album, you still get the 5 bonus tracks.
-
Received my copy in California. w00t! :D
I am attempting to put track listings and a hi-res scan of the cover into the CDdb, so folks won't have to hand transcribe the track names.
I also got about halfway through trying to use the comment field to put in the stuff from the liner notes (Alec's comments about the tracks), before I realized the stupid thing was letting me type everything out, and then truncating the moment I moved on to the next track. Gah! So, there will be no comments and lyrics in the comment field in the CDdb. :P
-
I am attempting to put track listings and a hi-res scan of the cover into the CDdb, so folks won't have to hand transcribe the track names.
Thanks for that! 8)
Actually if you guys want to post pictures of your "unwrapping" here, that'd make us feel pretty happy. (hours of shipping paying off!)
-
Oops, too late! I didn't think to do that, and now the disc is thoroughly transcribed, catalogued (in Delicious Library), and shelved. I am kind of OCD like that. 8)
I think the tracks did upload properly. Somebody will have to let us know whether it really worked. Especially the album cover... (I could post the image online. Or I'm sure you have the original file somewhere...)
Am listening to Fear the Dark now. The opening reminds me slightly of Counting Crows' "Murder of One" -- which sounds random, because it's not at all the same style, but I'm thinking of the way it starts out deceptively quiet / peaceful... and then slams you upside the head. In a good way. ;D

I will try it when my CD gets here, as I like to have a proper FLAC rip with log/cue/SFV files instead of just the music.
And, I support you putting your hi-res version of the image up :) Perhaps a wallpaper could be done out of it
-
High-res scan, in JPG form. (http://auros.org/img/AqOST.jpg)
Though I may not leave it up permanently. Also, there are a few speckles that are probably bits of dust on the scanner bed; I'd guess Alec has the original image file, which will no doubt be better.

Thanks for the picture - pretty amazing resolution.

Note: Signed copies sold on out Etsy, but we have some more listed on our other Shop: http://infiniteammo.bigcartel.com/ (http://infiniteammo.bigcartel.com/)

Alec just got the soundtrack in, I'm loving it, bought one of the signed copies. I would have loved a Huge detailed map of the Aquaria world, but the art included is still great. I bought a signed copy btw.
Just a quick question for you. I loaded both CD's onto my computer. Is there any way to get ID tags for the tracks? I'm using the Zune software with my Zune and its a little bit of a pain to edit all the tracks and whatnot.
Thanks again for a great soundtrack.

If you use Foobar2000, I can give you a CSV of the tags on mine, and you can insert them that way. And, yes, if that made no sense to you, I can guide you through it :)

Can you explain the "Oh My Word..." black & white insert? I understand the first two lines, mind you, but I don't understand it overall. It can be seen in one of the images above, and reads:
A is for Alec who drowned in Aquaria
E is for Edmund who was eaten by Gish
U is for Umbrella, more fun than Malaria
Its hero - A dead boy instead of some fish
WILL IT EVER BE FINISHED?
OH, WE CERTAINLY WISH
Edit: Also, I see in the insert that Jenna was apparently the one who thought of including bits of "Lost to the Waves" in "Fear The Dark". You should point her towards this thread one day so she can see how many people are enjoying it :)

Here's another article about the Soundtrack!
[Continuing his 'Sound Current' interview series for GameSetWatch, Jeriaska catches up with Aquaria co-creator Alec Holowka to discuss the soundtrack he created for the IGF-winning indie game, centering on the new deluxe double CD of the game's musical score...

Hiya everyone! I took Atreus' advice and decided to post something as opposed to just loitering!
Glad people are getting their soundtracks in time for xmas :) I just wanted to say how much I loved working on the game and on the vocal tracks. Alec and I kinda bounced ideas of each other and it was amazing to see how Fear the Dark evolved from a simple one track melody to what it became. I did help write a couple of bits but I would find composing a whole track way too overwhelming! I think it is because there are too many possible combinations and permutations what with the notes, the intruments, pitch, tempo, volume... just the slightest change to any of those things can make a huge difference to the final track.
It is amazing that Aquaria has so many dedicated fans and I know Derek/Alec (or Darlek as I like to call em) and I have really appreciated the feedback and support from everyone.
That is the great thing about indie games I guess. You are more in touch with the people actually playing the game and I know Alec has genuinely taken on board peoples' suggestions and ideas so in a way it has become like a worldwide community project!!
I have always loved games but I didn't know much about the indie gaming scene until Aquaria and IGF. I never would have thought it possible that two guys from different countries could have created something like this in their bedrooms without a big developer and loads of money behind them! It just goes to show that 'going back to basics' can be a good thing and flashy 3d graphics and teams of animators and programmers won't enhance a game unless you get all the other elements of gameplay right. Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and to me that is what made Aquaria stand out. It was a good allrounder! And aside from the unique look and feel and attention to detail it also has a kind of nostalgic feel and a "personal touch" that is perhaps missing from the mainstream games. You could tell the people working on it (not just Darlek but everyone else who helped with testing etc.) were doing it because they love games and were passionate about what they do. To invest all that time, creativity and effort into something you aren't getting paid for is pretty inspiring and I admire both of the guys for staying motivated because I am sure a lot of people would have given up or lost confidence.
I remember having a few conversations with Alec where I was a bit concerned about him burning out because he was tired and probably not sleeping or eating right because EVERYTHING REVOLVED AROUND THE GAMEEEEE. At times he lost the ability to be impartial about his work because when you do something creative and put your heart and soul into it it becomes difficult to step back and gauge whether it is actually any good or not! Believe me, when we were sitting at our table at IGF none of us thought liek OMG Aquaria is so gonna win cos its the best game eveeerr. In fact as I watched all the other awards going to other games (especially excellence in audio which I thought Aquaria would get) I was like... aww &%$£ we are going home with nothing. I know people alway say how surprised they are when they win stuff but we genuinly were not expecting it because there were some good games that year.
Well I have rambled for long enough ::) so thank you once again for your continued support and lovely comments.
Love Jenna
-
Cool! I never expected my suggestion to go anywhere, much less so soon. That was a great read :) Here's hoping that Alec's idea of a whole CD done with you (separate from Aquaria) comes to fruition someday, as "Fear The Dark" and "Lost to the Waves" are two of my favorite songs (not just from the game, but globally).
Edit: nm, better suited for a PM
-
Derek/Alec (or Darlek as I like to call em)
Maybe they're secretly Daleks? (Resistance is useless! Exterminate!)
Fear the Dark is excellent. And you have some serious pipes going there. (I did a lot of vocal performance, up through college, including taking a minor at Peabody (http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/). It gives one an appreciation of how much work singing is.)
Unrelatedly: I finally actually listened to the whole soundtrack on the good speakers (http://www.audioplusservices.com/profile/main.htm) (rather than headphones or computer speakers). There's a lot going on in the deep bass, almost at the edge of audibility, that I'd missed before... And DannyB did a great job mastering the CDs.

Latest soundtrack update:
The books have been balanced up to today's date and I am pleased to announce that today we broke even on the income and expenses involved in the OST! So thank you everyone for your support, now we can go on to make money for things like food and Christmas gifts and Ferraris. :D
You're awesome fans, I hope you enjoy your CDs when they get to you :)
-
WOOOT!
WOOOOOOT!
:D :D
'Grats guys. You deserve all the ferraris you can get your hands on heheh. ;)
So good that it worked out without a loss. Have a very Merry Christmas. ^-^

Congrats!
Oh, and for when you have your millions: the Tesla (http://www.teslamotors.com/) is way sexier than a Ferrari.

Yes! Yes! YES! We have success! We're all set on happiness now!....except for me because I don't have my soundtrack yet. It will be mine! Now, about that image Alec....
Hrm, works for me.
NOT ME! Get back to work!

Woot! - got mine in the mail yesterday :) Can't listen to it yet tho. I'm saving it as a stocking stuffer for my daughter. Hopefully Icculus will be able to finish the port so I can include something else with it too :)
Kudos to all of you that put this together!

Yeah, you have to use the URL for the twitpic page (http://twitpic.com/rqtwx) rather than the direct link to the image; it looks like the way twitpic works is that it generates a dynamic URL for the img src property, every time you load the page, and then throws it away again; that makes it difficult-to-impossible for folks to embed twitpic content off-site; you have to come to their site in order to see their images, which is a very good thing for them, if they plan to eventually derive revenue from ad placement.
-
That doesn't work with an bbcode img tag.
Oh well, its just a link now.

You found this at only 54 views?
Somebody spends waaay too much time scouring YouTube for Aquaria videos! =)

Man, those piano arrangements are really awesome. I hope he does more, and even moreso I hope he releases downloads.
In the mean time, I have ripped them off youtube. It was obviously transcoded, so there's some quality loss, but its way better than nothing. Would any of you like them so you can listen at your leisure? :D
-
Got my copy in the mail today. I was so excited. The album artwork and CD artwork is beautiful of course. Fear the Dark is great, and a bit scary if you stop and think about the lyrics. The Marian track was also good, even though it reminded me so much of Aquaria that I'm not sure normal people would recognize that it is from a different game. I'm very glad to hear ya'll broke even on the soundtrack. :)
Oh, I noticed there was an error in one of the track names iTunes pulled down from the internet. March of the Krotites was listed as Marck of the Krotites or something like that.

Yeah, I see that in my own listings, which are what was uploaded. Oops. Oh well -- if it's just one typo, and it still does allow folks to get the tracks automatically, that's still pretty good...

Hey, I got my copy, signature and all. And a little "Thanks Carlton"

Hi, registered just to say thanks for (finally!) deciding to release this. Been checking in monthly ever since playing the game last year and I was pleasantly surprised to see the CD on sale recently, which just came in today.
I'm spinning it as I write this and I feel the need to say that your Aquaria music is exceptional. I think anyone here can tell that you've poured your entire heart and soul into this music and it goes without saying that you guys have really created something special here.
So again, thanks. I'm curious to see what you do next.
(trying to imagine "Remains" fully orchestrated)
-
Heh heh... If Alec's entire soul is in my little package in the mail...then who's running that body over in Canada?! :O
:P
I really like Remains. It'd be totally rad to hear it done up more. :D
-
*Receives Package*
Ooooo! This is so great!
Very satisfactory package. I question the use of ziplocks, though the infinite ammo sticker with my name on it. :)
The music is presented very well and I have very little complaints. The only element that got an "Aww man..." from me was the Intro having Naija's narration. Call me a blasphemous coward who doesn't understand the simple notion of a quality track, but I always break down crying when I'm listening to in-game audio rather than, you know, the music! Thankfully I won't lose sleep over this. I LOVE Jenna Sharpe's voice work on the Intro track for it perfectly sets the mood and theme of the game. I will gladly accept this vocal inclusion over the Spock voice over track on the "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Complete Collection" ending track (Darn you FSM!)
Overall, fantastic soundtrack. Thanks for the hard work!
Now, let's see what this signature thing is all about....
*Finds the Signature*
Huh? What the.... ALEC! I thought you were going to sign the CD booklet or the front of the poster, not on the back of the poster. How am I supposed to frame it now? Your signature is going to be on the back and no one will be able see it! :'(
-
SEND IT BACK!

:O Yeah, I sign the back cause I don't want to ruin the art. :)
There's a picture here of where the signature goes: http://infiniteammo.bigcartel.com/product/aquaria-original-soundtrack-signed-edition (last pic)
I've clarified the signing options in case there's any further confusion.
If you'd like us to send you an alternate signed copy, shoot us an email at hello@infiniteammo.ca and we'll work something out. (we'll probably ask you to cover the shipping and the cost of the physical materials involved, whatever they end up being)
Thanks for the feedback!

Is there a price and ease-of-use equivalent alternative to ziplocs that you could recommend?

Doh, I'm sorry Alec. I didn't mean to make a fuss about it. It just took me by surprise. I've collected so many soundtracks in the past that I just didn't see it coming. I hereby turn down that statement. Besides, I didn't write correctly anyways. I meant to say "though the infinite ammo sticker with my name on it made up for it". I put that on my PowerMac Tower handle just yesterday. :)

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable and worth while idea to me. Thanks Alec. :)
-
Curious fade effect I came across in the soundtrack.
"Track 15: Remains"
Remains is probably the most emotional track I've heard in the game. I went into the sound files and played that sucker constantly to clear my head. When I listen to the soundtrack rendition, I note that the loud 'bell' like sound (sorry if I got the term wrong) heard in the beginning has been faded out somewhat. The beginning of the bell was very profound and clear in the files, but the soundtrack only fades in after the bell starts.
Was this a creative decision? Was the start of the bell too intrusive?
-
Very satisfactory package. I question the use of ziplocks, though the infinite ammo sticker with my name on it. :)
Heh.... we wanted a way to ensure a zero percent possibility that anyone's merchandise could be ruined by water damage, should their package stumble upon torrential rains or puddles. Ziplocs seemed like the easiest solution :)
Besides, it's the gift that keeps on giving; you can now safely transport a tasty sandwich to eat somewhere else.
-
Disclaimer: if you send me sandwiches, I won't sign them.
-
Alec, do you have an estimate of how much it would cost to get that extra signed thinger mentioned above? I'd likely be interested, so I have something to frame that can be forward facing :D
-

What a relief.

What do you guys want exactly?
I guess I see either a signature on the front of the booklet or on the front of the poster making the most sense.
-
What do you guys want exactly?
I like the idea of the poster being signed. Once that is done, I'll give it a foam back and frame it with Museum Quality glass that reduces light reflection. 8)
Hmm. I wonder if Jenna does signatures. :-X

I'm sure she would... maybe we could work something out with her. The end result would probably ending up costing quite a bit due to all the shipping involved, however.

Depending on exactly what it turns out to cost, I might be willing to ship the disc (or just the poster) to her, and include a prepaid label for return shipping. (I always used to use that kind of label when shipping legal docs back and forth for work; UPS, FedEx, and DHL all provide them...)

Likewise! Last thing I would want is to ask for something from these artists at their expense. I want to make this process the easiest it can be for the signers. I'm a supportive fan, dangit! >:D
-
I'm happy to sign things if people want me too. :) It is just the logistics issue. I guess Alec would have to take the orders, send me the CDs then I would sign and send on to wherever they needed to get to.

What do we need? I can supply you with the packaging, the said item to be signed, the sharpie markers (I use the Industrial Sharpie for durability), the return label and a free drink from StarBucks as a thank you for signing and physically shipping it out. I recommend a Bannana Chocolate Soy Vivano with five pumps of Mocha to enforce the chocolate aspect. ;D
Oh, Alec. Is it possible to aquire a non-folded poster at my expense? The poster is fine, but the fold marks do wrinkle and chip the print thus making the presentation of a professionally framed piece of artwork a bit sour. If not that's perfectly fine too. ^-^
-
You ARE secretly making a museum!
-
Unfortunately the posters come folded. (they're made to insert into the jewel case)
BTW, I found another fan-made Aquaria piano medley:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82nhqDPIO7c
-
Yep, familiar from this thread it seems: http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=1744.0 . He plays this very well, I would like to hear more this kind of medleys.
Still waiting for my OST to arrive, somehow I still fear there's a bug in my order and I'll be waiting for nothing :P. Well, at least my money was good enough for them (and you) :D
-
I'm kinda fed up with this attitude that assumes we don't know how to ship orders. We've been very careful to ensure every order is properly packaged and sent out within a week of ordering. International orders can take a month or more to arrive. (especially during holiday mail seasons)
To ship out faster and with tracking we'd have to charge a lot more per order.
-
I bet all the orders are fine, it just takes some while to arrive.
-
Um, I didnt meant my previous message that way so just to clear this possible misunderstanding - I just messed with the payment option when I was selecting the right form for my payment, and when it succeeded I wasnt sure if it was ok - I was slightly worried about this Paypal thing I'm unfamiliar with, as it claims I used that option even if I didnt.
PayPal Shipping with Canada Post to create a shipping... You chose the following form of payment: PayPal
If you have already paid, thanks for being so quick! If you have not paid yet, please pay now by signing into Etsy and going to Your Etsy > Purchases, then clicking the "Invoice" link. Remember, on Etsy you always pay the seller directly, and each seller must be paid individually.
If you are paying via PayPal, you must complete payment on PayPal.com before the seller will ship the item. Also, please make sure that the shipping address listed in your Etsy account matches the shipping address in your PayPal profile.
and all, yeah. So far I have done only one purchace via web, and that's Aquaria so calling me ignorant is more than well-earned then when it comes to this kind of things...
But since I have received that "1969" message and all, how can you doubt it's not arriving at the time? I dont doubt your "shipping-skills" either, sounds humorous indeed, but it seems you're pissed off because people *might* be a bit enthusiastic while waiting for their package? Stand it, please. Misunderstandings exists, unfortunately. I'm not bombarding you with PMs or anything.
Best Regards and sorry for commotion,
:o
-
The 1969 thing is just hilarious. :) Fortunately its consistent. (Canada post seems to be behind by 40 years)
But yeah, it happens to everyone. What usually seems to happen is people ask us what's up (some politely, others not) then anywhere from a couple days for a couple weeks later they've received their package.
International (not US or Canada) orders will unfortunately take a long time, especially during the holiday season.
-
Yeah.. New Zealand is a sad place to get international items to in particular.
That said, I am hoping it arrives before Christmas! :D Only 10 more days. ^-^
-
And so five weeks have passed...
And with Christmas season starting, I doubt I will see it before 2010...
Don't you just love living in Europe ::)
Oh well, I know it will be well worth waiting for that package ^-^
-
Thanks for releasing the soundtrack digitally in such a consumer-friendly way! The pricing scheme and choice of formats is genuinely appreciated. The only downside is not having the liner notes and poster.
-
End of week one, 2010, still not arrived. :(
-
*Anxiously awaits the soundtrack*
I ordered at the end of November, still waiting. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
-
End of week one, 2010, still not arrived. :(
I feel you; I'm blaming New Zealand for my one. Living in a tiny corner of the world has its downsides. :'(

Yeah we've been getting tons of emails from international customers.... it seems that 4-6 weeks centering around December is a gross underestimation. 7-8 weeks is likely for a lot of countries, it seems. :(
I feel bad but there's really nothing we can do but wait, because the norm really does appear to be longer than 6 weeks.
-
It took 45 days ( 6.5 weeks) to Germany.
-
Wasn't able to find a great worship5 track from game version ;<
Here is the credentials:
Alec & Ian Holowka - worship5 [Genre: game|Album: Aquaria OST [game version, vorbis]|Year: 2007] [01:17|44 kHz|128 kbps|1,18 Mb|Stereo]
Sad, but oh well
-
Worship's on the OST, it's just mixed into one track with the other worship tracks.

Arrived today (monday) and i'm in the UK. I knew it would take awhile. I hoped it would be here last week but the snow in the UK meant i had no post for a week. Just glad it is here.
I will post pictures of my unwrapping skills later.

Thanks for the wonderful OST :P

Pretty much every Australian order from the first week has been reporting 7+ weeks of waiting :\

I know this is an odd/random place to put this, but I don't know if you check tweets often from those you are not following you. I also didn't think a new thread really needed making. I refer, of course, to the following:
Wrote da music for Kyle's GGJ game while barely awake and right at the last minute. Yay! http://bit.ly/bzsfO4
to which I replied, of course:
@infinite_ammo Is this the part where I ask if it's possible to get a download of the music? :D
I don't know if hif you have the right to put it up for download, but if you don't, perhaps you could ask them. I like to get my hands on anything you do music-wise, as I love your, well, music (hard to tell, right? :p). If indeed you can't put it out legally, and they don't want to for free, I'd be glad to pay a price :) And, also I'd be glad to host it if needed.
to be quite honest, i haven't even heard the music yet, as I haven't been to my PC, but I have no doubt it's great :v You should really write up a list of all the games (or otherwise) you've done music for -- that'd be awesome. Then, you could sell a compilation of all of them perhaps :D
-
I don't know if hif you have the right to put it up for download
Since the game is freeware made for the Global Game Jam, I don't imagine there would be any problem with putting the song up for download. I'm sure Alec will be happy to :)
Also, the game is FANTASTIC, and the music fits wonderfully (and probably lends a lot to) the atmosphere. It sounds great on its own too, but.... I recommend you let your first experience with the music be the first time you play the game, because the combo gives both pieces more depth. ^-^
-
Awesome :D Here's hoping he puts it up, and I will make sure to play the game (its sitting on my desktop from earlier!) before listening.
Also, Alec, any updates on the vocal-less "Fear The Dark" and/or "Lost to the waves" you'd told me you were going to work on? :)

Yay, I received my OST today! Remote Finland finally got the package. Long wait, but with all the troubles (not related to shipping/paying) it was definitely worth of it. My thanks to the Aquaria team.

Still didn't get here and I've been waiting approximately this long (http://timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=11&day=23&year=2009).
Could you send it again, please? I think it got lost in the mail.

Just finished the game, and yo uwere totally right :D It WAY reminded me of "Time Kufc", though ( see: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Edmund/time-kufc ). Any idea if it was inspiration for this or associated in any way?

Not sure if it was an inspiration, but I know Edmund loves depict1. :)

Well, I asked (through etsy) for a resend, because apparently the first one got lost in the mail - and lucky me! I got a signed one! :D
I love it, thank you so much :)
I only have three tiny "complaints" (which are mostly a joke ;)):
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34429617
1. "brand new 9 minute song "Fear the Dark" performed by Aquaria's voice actress, Jenna Sharpe"
It was only 8:53!!
2. "gorgeous 8 page booklet, with never-before-seen art"
There were only 6 pages! (not including the 'cover')
This is supposed to be the one with the lyrics, right?
3. "8 panel mini-poster with art from the game on the front, and composer's notes, concept art and more on the back"
Ok... Maybe I'm missing something? Is there some sort of hidden section? Because, I must say, I see six and only six.
Number 3 was actually what made me buy this. I want my money back!
Ok, seriously now... Both 8s should have been 6s. Is there some problem with your keyboard? ;)
I do not mean this to sound agressive or anything, just mentioning it. So sorry if it came out wrong :/

In industry printing terms, the booklet is considered 8-pages. (they count both sides I guess)
There are lyrics in the booklet.
The poster is definitely 6 panels, so I guess that was a typo or a brain fart.
Thanks for pointing it out. :)

any possibility to answer my questions?

any possibility to answer my questions?
If your question is about what's different with the signed copy..
It has a signature and some extra print stuff.
The extra print stuff is some combination of business cards (currently out of them) other indie games' promotional stuff (currently out) and/or Marian "photos" (little print-outs of Marian concept art, we can print more of these easily)
Although I don't know if we'll be doing any more signed stuff.

i keep checking this forum then for more updates and hoping for the best.

I found Aquaria via the HIB, and loved it! I bought a second copy on steam, and "gave" the copy I got from the HIB to my sister, and she loved it as well! (In fact, I was at "the body" when I gave her the game and she beat it before I did, curse being busy with remodeling the basement.)
Also just bought the sound track, and just wanted to say thanks for making such an amazing game! Easily the best most fulfilling game I have played. Ever. Currently playing through it again, and enjoying it just as much as the first time, if not more. :)

If you haven't listened through the whole soundtrack (it's pretty big), check out the Marian track at the end. It's sort of a teaser for Alec's next big game. It's really good. :)

Just listened to the soundtrack again. Again, it's an overall good soundtrack that's only hindered by the horribly intrusive fade-ins at the start of numerous tracks.

We want Jenna to sing it too! ;)
hehe, me too
