Is this a girl game?
« on: December 03, 2008, 03:53:25 am »
Hey guys, I've recently played the demo of this game and thought it was a pretty good game that embraces with  nice ambient background musics and beautiful visuals. I might consider buying this game, but for some reason I thought this is a little weird for guys to play.. Not trying to be biased or anything because I really do like this game... but what do you people think? ::)

Real men play Aquaria. Seriously, man. How much of an issue is it?  ;D

As long as the game in question is very well made (and Aquaria is), then your masculinity is not threatened.

My guess is that your favorite pastime is this.

And that you cook your burgers like this.

I'm a guy too, which hopefully my username makes obvious. And if anyone asks why a guy would play a game like this, one could always cite the age-old male enjoyment of challenge.

Besides, a real man selects leisure activities not because others will approve, but because he enjoys it and the rest of the world can go hang if they disagree. After all, it's not their free time he's spending.

Here's my question:  Is anything really a "girl" thing or a "guy" thing?  There's always at least one person who is a guy who's playing a socalled "girl" thing and at least one person who is a girl playing a "guy" thing.  So honestly, why don't we just say that it's a FUN thing and go on - about anything.  Why should it matter? :P  And yes, plenty of girls play it, too.  I feel this is a very universally appealing game and that's why I like it so much.  It's not a game based on stereotypes of what girls or guys are supposed to like, but a very straightforward (in terms of audience, and in terms of what it is) game.  Just enjoy it for what it is? ;)

In terms of the 'spammy spammy kill everything' behaviour I think is common in some heavily infested open waters areas it could almost be a guy game. xD

As I said in the beginning, it doesn't really matter. The only thing that makes a difference is whether or not you have fun, not whether or not you feel uncomfortable playing it. If you feel a little bit weird about playing Barbie Funfest but are having fun, by all means continue playing (with the door locked)  ;) But if you play a really macho game (like F.E.A.R.) but are scared out of your mind, stop playing immediately. Hope that helped rectify your perceptions of "maleness"  ;D
