I noticed someone mentioned that they'd like a page to have convenient locations as to where to get items for recipes, so I'm going to list some of the more popular/useful items if you're looking for healing or bonuses. Simply CTRL+F if you are looking for a certain one.
Plant Leaves
- The fire-breathing seahorses in the Kelp Forest drop three when you kill them.
- If you enter Mithalas by the transport plant, the jars there hold two or three.
- If you use the transport plant in Naija's home, you can Bind some of the plants there (if you have the Seed Bag) and they usually have leaves/poultices.
Jelly Oil
- There are jellyfish all over The Veil, although you want the blue ones and not the yellow.
- There are two or three in Nautilus Prime's chamber, just exit to Naija's home and re-enter to respawn them.
- There is also a single one literally right outside of Naija's home. Kill it, collect, go back into her home to respawn the jellyfish, etcetera.
Fish Meat & Fish Oil
- Remarkably simple, just shoot energy bolts into schools of fish. You'll build them up in no time. There are many schools near Naija's home and in The Veil.
Eel Oil
- A bit harder, there are 2 eels on the eastern side of The Veil and two or three on the west. It's a slow process to find them, but the fastest choice.
Small Eyes & Fish Eggs
- The little pods that shoot the miniature one-eyed squids at you give both of these. The squids give the eyes, the pods the eggs. There are a few east of Naija's home.
Rainbow Mushrooms
- The easiest to get mushroom, there's a house in southwestern Mithalas that holds three jars, each containing one Rainbow Mushroom.
- Random jars in Mithalas may also hold these.
Rubbery Meat & Small Tentacles
- In The Veil, where you fight/fought the octopus boss, there are a few small squids. Each drops 2-3 rubbery meat and 1 small tentacle.
Red Berries & Green Bulbs
- Yanking up the plants in the ground with Bind will give you these two items at random.
- The best place to find the plants is the Kelp Forest and inside Naija's home if you have the Seed Bag.
- There's also a single plant literally right outside of Naija's home. Pull it up, return back to her home to respawn, come back out and etcetera.
Rukh Eggs
- These are hard to come by. The easiest place is in The Veil, on the far eastern side. Swim through a small cavern on the eastern wall, then walljump up an entire canyon to find a single Rukh there. Attack it until it drops its egg, then jump into the nest (try not to jump OVER it and back into the water) and you'll have your well-earned egg.
Shark Fins
- In The Veil, far eastern side, there is a group of three sharks (one being fairly large) near the surface. Each will drop a fin.
Spicy Meat
- The yellow jellyfish near the surface in most areas of The Veil will drop these like candy.
Spider Eggs
- There are giant spiders all throughout the Kelp Forest, each will give you one egg when you kill it.
Swordfish Steaks
- If you head south out of The Veil, you will reach a circular cavern that branches off in many directions with only two swordfish in it. These are the only swordfish I have ever seen.
Turtle Meat
- Simply go into the Turtle Cave in The Veil and go wild in energy form. Easy meat.
Rotten Meat
- Most vases in Mithalas will give these upon breakage.
Small Bones
- Easily the most common (and annoying) item pulled from plants with the Bind song.
- Also inside vases in Mithalas.
Ice Chunks
- The blue crabs inside the Ice Caves east of The Abyss will drop these.
Red Bulbs & Special Bulbs
- Pull them up in the Kelp forest from Binding plants?
Glowing Eggs
- Angler fish in the Abyss drop these.
- The angular fish in Mithalas Castle drop these, as well.
ITEMS I NEED HELP FINDING A HUNTING GROUND FOR
- Red Bulbs (maybe)
- Special Bulbs (maybe)
-
if you can go back into your home waters (I assume you can), theres plenty of fish and jellyfish around and go nuts in energy form or something. Which I've been wanting to do but can't get past the dang energy god.
-
The light-bearing non-combat jellyfish that hang around in the Abyss also drop blue jelly oil, but I don't know how often. I just blew up a few by accident and found one.
Also you say Ruhk eggs come from more than one spot? I've only ever found the one you mentioned.

TREASURE SPOILERS!! WHAT!!
In the turtle cave, at the bubble jumping area where you get the urchin armor. If you use a Speed+2 food and beast form to jump from that highest bubble up and to the right, you can find another Ruhk... But it's totally not worth it, so much easier to get the one I mentioned.

Red Bulbs can be found from binding plants in the Kelp Forest.
Glowing Eggs can be found from the angular fish in Mithalas castle.

Haha, wow, they really did stick things everywhere.
-
As far as I've been able to tell, there only appear to be 4 Special Bulbs in the game, appearing after a few bosses.
-
The angler fish in the Abyss drop Glowing Eggs quite regularly.
And Special and Red Bulbs can be found in the Kelp Forest.
-
Are the special and red bulbs just rare pulls?
I think I went through the entire Kelp Forest just pulling up stuff and all I got was Red Berries rather than Bulbs, and Green Bulbs rather than red. :(
I'll try out the angler fish and stuff, though.

I've got four right this moment, and I know I've used one to make an arcane poultice.
-
speaking of glowing eggs, somehow I got the leech poultice (which requires them) from the shelled pink seaslug type enemy (I don't know what it's called ingame though) in one area of the Energy Temple. However I messed up and forgot to heal up and died on the way back, and lost it, but I had saved in that area, so it wasn't a huge loss. Might try and get it again.
-
Right outside the entrance to the sunken city (not the gate Li has to open, but the city proper) is a box containing three leaves. It's right by the exit of the room, so you can easily farm it, and doesn't require killing anything. Really fast to fill up on leaves, then leaf poultices, then rolls (if you have a lot of fish meat, which you probably do), then veggy soup (if you have a bunch of hot soup).
-
I had 8 special bulbs at the end of the game. Just 8. I don't know if that's on purpose, but all I did was pop colour buds (I didn't even know you could pull weeds with Bind).
-
Just so you know, I included a bunch of text from here at: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Aquaria/Ingredients
Hopefully we can get a cross referenced recipe/ingredient list along with every place you can find the things.
-
There are a limited number of Special Bulbs in Aquaria, and all the ones I've found have been dropped by, or are near bosses and mini-bosses (i.e., after beating the Jellyfish boss you will find a Special Bulb in the Jelly Outfit room.)
-
The last two special bulbs I got where from shooting a seadragon (which most of the time drops three leaves) and from a colour bud in a passage which is bordered by hot Steam. (south kelp forest/open waters?)
-
can anybody confirm whether the yellow jellyfish in The Veil (not the Ice Veil) actually drop spicy meat 'like candy'? I'm not saying they don't drop spicy meat, its just not as often as it says.
It's possible the drop rates were changed or it's just some wierd bad streak I'm having, but I've visited the west side of the Veil which is where they mainly are, and have only had one or two spicy meat drops.
I've found another place that works well for spicy meat, in the first part of the cathendral, those flying red things drop them almost all the time, also those things that shoot the purple homing darts at you sometimes drop glowing eggs.

I don't find they drop that often, 1 out of 3 seems to drop spicey meat. Mithalas is a good ingredient run I find. I go in and immediatly bind that tadpole to my face ( which looks dashing ) and then go up to get leaves. back and forth like previously mentioned by fieari (http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=345.msg4853#msg4853) until you've built up your leaf rolls, veggie soups, veggie cakes and special cakes. that adds up to a lot of leafs! I can't remember where it was mentioned here but I also use the plant bulb in veggie soup. after that it's back and forth between the rainbow mushroom room and the cathedral to get glowing eggs and spicey meat from the diagonal purple shooting fish and the red fish that 'drops' bombs. is there a list of names for all of the creatures in the game?
the Kelp forest is my favourite spot to get eggs and eyeballs, a quick loop through the turtle bus stop map gets me mostly stocked and then a few trips back and forth in home waters which is inevitable seems to fill me up. there's something else that has been dropping eggs in infrequent amounts, but can't remember atm.
the leaf spots mentioned are all great: the Mithalis hatch door ( first time I saw them thought 'LOST' so now they are always hatches ), the fiery seahorse, the home water hatch cave with seed bag, but also if you are in the area that little nymph cave where you got the seed bag has a silly amount of leaves. I've only gone back through there a couple of times, looking for treasures, but it's there and lotsa leaves!
I'm always low on tentacles, are octopus and the occasional squid the only spot for those? it was desparing to battle the Octopus Prime boss and see all those tentacles beside his beak sitting out of range... despite that I still racked up about 5 tentacles!
the turtles in the turtle cave don't drop any turtle meat for me, only those turtles where you pop their shells off and they take off. am I missing something here? down to my last turtle soup :'(
one thing I try and do is have 7/8 of cooked items in case I pull a ( jelly ) poultice or a tough cake is dropped. then I don't have to mourn it's loss into the 8/8 ceiling ( I still pick them up out of principal sometimes tho ;) )

That's too bad, because you can make lots of though cakes (octopuses drop the most rubbery meat), which imho are one of the best meals available in the game (+2 heal, +2defense for 15 seconds). I used mostly only them and I'm happy. Yeah, you can get tentacles only from squids and octopuses. I just remember something that also dropped tentacles, but I'm not sure about this - maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me :P

tough cakes are my fave too, then probably tasty cakes. I like to keep a larder of 8 cakes, tough cakes and rubbery meat at any time hehe.
there's another very useful spot to get oil in the sunken city: there is a box halfway through the map on the right hand side that has 3 oil in. between the leaf box and this box you can restock up on some supplies!

Yeah. When i went out of supplies, I just run out from room to room collecting stuff again :D There are five or six boxes. The last is somewhere near the entrance to the depper parts of sunken city, but the way to it is blocked by an obstacle (maybe it's just a groovy looking tile after all :D).
One drops oil, second mushrooms, another leaves, and the last one spicy meat. I don't remember about the box in the passage way to the deeper parts of ruins, but there were propably leaves to.

Turtle Meat
- Simply go into the Turtle Cave in The Veil and go wild in energy form. Easy meat.
can someone confirm whether this is true or not? I went back there to try for the Ruhk egg Karn also mentioned:

which the first attempt I tried I used up 16 soup and stepped away from the bubbles. the second time it took 2 tries, I saved just before with a full larder and so I think that distraction of windling food supplies wasn't a factor. the other Ruhk egg is definitly easier to get! but with the turtles, they occasionally leave an energy but the only turtle meat I've come across are those turtles you pull the shell off, looking straight down on them, not sideways like these. I got the one turtle soup left that I'm keeping for magpie reasons and nosh on crabcakes for defense now.

right! I came across those the first time through but spaced. stocked up before I couldn't anymore, ty :D

I never shot turtles (thank you, Greenpeace/WWF), but there are many easier ways to get defend-increasing food, so it wasn't necessary to focus on turtles...

Though Cakes! Just shot squids, octopuses, and even nautilus and get rubbery meat. This + sea cake = though cake. The best cake evah :D

I've since gone totally off turtles. do the math: hearty soup + turtle = turtle soup. turtle soup is just defense minus the speed, you're not supposed to eat turtles, it's a sin! wish I could make a monkey loaf or a parrot poultice tho :(
-
Yea I don't even like the effect of Turtle Soup. Tough cakes (IT'S SPELLED TOUGH DAMMIT! NOT THOUGH!) are far more efficient as they give healing + defense. Of course the super-foods are obviously better than these. I'm more of a fan of veggie cakes and borscht myself. Those super-soups give such awesome bonuses. Almost a full heal and extra power to boot.
-
Yeah, love the hot and cold borscht too ( too bad there aren't enough ingredients to make alot, but there is a creature that drops them), and sometime I got invincible after eating 4 or more Tough cakes, was really weird. O_o
-
You've seen cold borscht drop? Where? That's the only one I'm missing...
-
It's the same as Hot Borscht, only with cold soup then. =p
So that's: Cold Soup + Red Berry + Red Bulb
I hope you still have a Red Bulb... those are hard to get.
-
I think I found cold borscht in the body somewhere...couldn't tell you where. Actually...I might have found it in an alcove in the Ice Veil. That seems more appropriate, you should try there.
-
cold borscht dropped before I had the ingredients to make it, somewhere in the abyss. that happened a couple of times where I got the recipe before I got all the necessary ingredients
-
Yeah, I also know that I had the Cold Borscht before the cold soup. By that time I didnt even knew that the ice chunks or ice cream existed. xD
I just thought that if you help Hot Soup in your inventory long enough that it would turn into Cold Soup, man was -I- wrong.
-
You see, Naija discovered the secrets to renewable energy and decided to keep a soup warmer in her pocket.
-
does anyone know what kind of recipe is maded by the bones? just wondering because i didn`t found any
-
Try searching the forums some more, there are enough topics with the whole recipe list.

Ah~~~Who can tell me the accurate location of swordfish steak?I can't find it…… :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
The best you could paste a picture for me~~~Thanks a lot~~~ ;) ;) ;)
-
Uhm, the swordfish stake comes from the Swordfishes and from one or two bulbs, I don't know that for sure though. But the sneaky things is that the Swordfishes don't always drop the Swordfish steak, they also drop normal meat, in which you may think that they aren't the right ones. I have no clue where to find these creatures though, I thought they were in The Veil, but I may be horribly wrong.
-
are they in the right most side of the veil, by the sun temple entrance? they are definitly in the nice fishing area that is directly above the area between the entrance to Mithalis and the open waters turtle ( right above where Ekkrit is ;) )
-
OK~~I get it! There is two swordfish in open waters~~~~~ ;) ;) ;)
This is the map~~~~

This topic might be very old but special bulb is drop from the normal monster that is required a lot of shoot to kill.
