Title: Time and time again!
Post by: grandchampion on October 19, 2008, 02:47:02 am
Call me impatient but when I read about the patch I thought we'd get it before February.  Would everyone here be terribly offended if I asked Alec to hurry up?

Not terribly.

I don't think there's a problem with asking a question of Alec, so long as people don't pester or nag.  still, there's plenty of time left before February.  Alec's a hard working dude, just give him some time and he'll probably post an update.

Still, your call, i can't speak for everyone.

xD

I don't know which I'm looking forward to more...The patch or the OST. But both of them are being worked on by pretty much just Alec at the moment so we can't really give him flak if we think its slow. >.<;

Although I sent an email to the admin email asking for another download link so I can get the game again (reformatted recently) and it hasn't come back in the day since then. I would like a respose to something like that before the patch release. :D

Interesting interpretation.  The February I was refering to was 8 months ago and the last WIP update was in July, I posted to show my surprise at this turn of events.  Best wishes to Alec and crew, I bet they haven't even seen the bulk of their sales yet.

Once patch 1.1.0 comes out and if they can push their way onto steam I have no doubt they'll have to pay for more bandwidth on this forum.

I really can't work any harder! It helps to remember that I'm but one person; Derek is done with Bit Blot for now. :) I've only been getting about 5 hours of sleep a night for the last couple months.

Here's a list of the things I'm working on right now: (each section is in order of scheduling, from soonest to later)

Bit Blot (http://bit-blot.com)
---------
Aquaria Mac Version (nearly done, fixing bugs as fast as I can so we can get it out)
Aquaria Windows 1.1.0 (once the mac version is done, 1.1.0 windows will be nearly ready to beta test, then i'll have to figure out some other stuff and release it)
Aquaria ?? (secret stuff)
Aquaria OST (writing a new song with Jenna, have to finalize the booklet art, then decide how many CDs + print them, then ship them off to plimus)
Possibly: Aquaria Boxed Version

Infinite Ammo (http://infiniteammo.ca)
------------------
iPhone Talk (I'm doing a 1.5 hour presentation tues + wed, and it needs to rock)
Planning for traveling to MIGS in November
Recently finished the Paper Moon demo with the team for Gamma3D, going to polish it up further
?? (secret stuff)
?? (other secret stuff)
?? (other other secret stuff)

Other
-------
I'm doing an iPhone game with Mark Johns
I'm doing an iPhone game with Phil Fish

Once again Alec your work ethic and the sheer amount of things you are releasing is amazing.

Also once again, the secrets you leave us wondering about are infuriating.

Can't wait for the OST and 1.10, but maybe you should take a break and get some sleep.  5 hours a night for months on end is just not enough.

Take it easy once in a while.

Don't forget your gf besides all that work! She needs a part of your time too! ;)

Don't worry, she gets plenty.   :)
She hasn't been sleeping much either.

I would think the Steam release would be more lucrative and thus more important than the Mac version.  Darwinia's sales exploded when it hit Steam, despite being available from the creator's themselves (much as Aquaria is) for a while before that.

Obviously, I'm not in any way qualified to make such an assessment; it's just my thoughts. Of course, I am also biased in my opinion as I want the game to come to Steam (along with the patch so that I can play it in widescreen).

Well, I can't work on the Steam version until the Mac version is done, because its like... 1% away from being finished, and once its done that'll mean 1.1.0 is nearly ready for Windows testing. Those things have to happen in that order.

Just 5 hours! Ale,c Chrissy you'll burn yourselves out, I know that you are young but you really do need more sleep than that after a while  ::) I must admit that I survive on about 5 or 6 for a few nights and then I end up falling asleep on my feet, not good  ::)

I'm not saying another word, as I have a dirty mind and you don't know the age of some that visit this forum :o  :-*

Young love is like an artifact that enables you to live with less sleep, don't you remember? ;)
Plus, you can train your body to a certain degree how much sleep it needs.

My body tells ME how much sleep it needs.  8 hours minimum.  8:45 preferred but rarely achieved.

I've been running on 3 to 6 hours of sleep for the past 6 months, usually the lower end of the scale, with the exception of Sundays usually. That's the life of a navy sailor on deployment. :/

I wish Alec could just split himself into a 10 man team, just imagine the amount of work he could get accomplished! :P I say so far he has done an excellent job. 2 years and to come out with a game this solid?? I have no doubt that once the game gets more publicity it will blow up!

I wish I could see a psp title, specially since you don't need any hardcopies these days for the system... ahem, homebrew. :) Aquaria to go would be quite nice. :) Heck I can already play ECO on my Sega CD emulator on the psp. but ECO has absolutely nothing on Aquaria. I imagine it wouldn't run to well as a port at 333Mhz though. :/ It would definitely need some modifications. Then again, I have seen some crazy lua games coming out for it with great graphics and great play mechanics. Of course a game doesn't need great graphics to be fun, look at tetris, and solitare. :P And the perfect example of that on psp as of lately is the new version of Squares, which is so simplistic in idea, but yet so fun and addicting to play.

Alec, you're totally RAD in my book. :P Keep up the good work! :D

Hey don't forget Dereks part in creating it DM, he's away busy on some other project right now but he played a big part in creating it.

True, but Derek isn't RAD, besides.. the amount of coding in the game is just sick.

And Derek, if you ever get a chance to read this... we love you just the same, and your artwork is definitely amazing. I hope you stick around for a come back with more content in support of your fans.

I'd love a new form or "skin" by Derek.  Collector's edition perhaps?  *nudge nudge*

I heartily agree with that proposition: as my grouchy English teacher says: "nudge nudge, wink wink, elbow elbow, say no more! say no more!" Nuff said.  :D

Hehe, thanks, dude! ;)

At the very least, I'm going to let the Aquaria Mac announcement post be number 1 on the blog for a bit longer and then work on getting up another development log.

Great: it's fantastic to see the game welcomed with open arms by another platform: Naija deserves at least as much lol. Thanks for the wonderful painting you drew (under Weird Underwater Creatures). Yu are/is back!
