What's your favorite boss?
« on: January 22, 2008, 05:36:34 pm »
Nautilus Prime. Straightforward, fast, kinetic and frenzied fight. Gotta love it.

Runner ups are

2. Ice Lobster
3. The Creator's final form
3. The Veil Crab (although I went all out with Nature form so I never beat him the "proper" way)
4. Forest Queen
5. The Creator's third form

Hmm...that's really tough...alot of the bosses I had sort of a love-hate relationship with.  If I had to say...this is probably what it would look like:

Mathala.  He's big and intimidating and he's a puzzle boss.  I like bosses that don't just involve shooting alot.  He reminded me alot of a Zelda boss and I love those too.

Runner Ups would be...

2. Energy God
3. The Eye-Beasts in the Cathedral
4. The Creator's Final Form
5. The Arnassi Ruins Crab boss.

Who's the Veil Crab?

Veil crab is the huge crab near the Veil, lol, You get there by jumping over a piece of land, I don't exactly know where it was.

And my list would be...

1. Creator's final form.    Just because it has awesome graphics and was the only boss I couldn't figure out myself.
2. Nautilus Primes.          I don't know why, must be the simpleness, the sexyness, I just love the huge thing.
3. Sun Worm.                    Only boss where I had to eat my SEA LOAFS. Which means it's epic or that I just suck.
4. Krotite god.                    Once more graphics and I just like the violent Krotites and that god was massive.
5. Mithala god.                  And again I liked how he looked too, very pretty graphics and I liked the inhaling the poison bomb part. Very Zelda-dy
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Probably Mithala, but the Creator was up there too.

My least favorite was probably that damn sleepy octopus thing. Having to constantly switch back into energy form was a pain.

I third that.

Hated that bloody thing. Took me a lot of time and health items to beat.

Me too.  I didn't realize what I was supposed to do at first.  But once I realized it I reloaded an earlier save.  I don't waste that much food on a boss and keep going not a chance.

Haven't reloaded Aquaria once because I wasted too much of this or missed something at a place.

And I died only once and that was while I was still in the demo with the energy god, simply cause I didn't know how.

Every boss in the game is awesome, imo. But if I would had to chose between them, I would point out:

  • creators final form (looks awesome, the fight is dynamic with loads of adrenaline rushing to your head and the music...  :D)
  • frozen veil mantis shrimp (great look, nice idea for the fight, wish it only could be a bit harder to defeat)
  • Mithala (yeah, right . The fight is long and rather dramatic, especially in the last parts ::))
  • Golem from the Sunken city (another fine idea, love the story about this boss)
  • Nautilus Prime (I dig the boss is 100% game classic and includes wonderful fights)

Others were also good, but these are my most favourite ones.

As for the octopus prime boss, I didn't find the fight *that* much disturbing. It was rather fun and challenging  ;)

That boss was just hard to figure, every time I go near he swishes his tentacle and tries to grab me, after I was grabbed about 6 times I finally saw something coming out of its beaks. Then I tried to attack it, being caught another 4 times or so. And when I finally found my safe spot, right above it. I could beat it, still with troubles though.
Normally I go all the way back to the entrance again and stuff, very, VERY annoying boss. Good job Alec. xD

For the Octopus, it wasn't so much figuring out what to do (I spend too much time on these boards) than it was actually doing it. Getting caught by its tentacle was annoying as hell, and I hated having to constantly re-light the room.

It's just the combination of keeping the room lit, destroying the small squid that spawns, then avoid the things he spews out, finally attacking him and avoiding his tentacle while shooting.
Which is annoying.

Kind of the same with the upside down lobster thing in Ice Veil, I was trying to get his bomb near him everytime dropping it from the top while escaping myself. Well, The bomb didn't stay near or the lobster was already gone, so I just bond it to me, shot the lobster from the roof and stayed above him, being sure that I hit it.

I enjoyed the whole creator sequence, except the search in the dark one.  Looking at the modding aspect of the game I found another creator form that I don't remember in the game.  Anyone know why it was taken out?
Despite what alot of people say I liked the Jelly King.  It looked cool, had lasers, spawned littlejellys, trapped you in it, and was a difficult fight.  It wasn't mentally challenging but it tested your reflexes and abundance of extra ingredients.  I spent much of the game collecting ingredients and this was the first boss that I had to use more than a couple of them.
The sun worm was also great.  The changing waterlevel was difficult and called for quick changes of forms.
