Eternal Daughter soundtrack
« on: December 27, 2007, 08:32:56 pm »
I've had a bit too much time on my hands, so I started fiddling around with some free software tools and rendered an Eternal Daughter soundtrack from the midi files of the game. You can get it at http://www.ganggarrison.com/edost. Feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for this, MedO! Since David Saulesco seems to have fallen off the internet in recent years, it's just as well there's somewhere else to get the OST from.

Yeah, great job on getting these out from the game :). I'd like the soundtrack and it was very well made, even if midi is mostly known for it's rather low quality. It's really worth listening  :)

Thanks. I wasn't the one who extracted the midis though, I just found them on a forum.
Midi files are a bit like sheet music, they say which instrument plays which note, for how long, how loud, with how much emphasis and so on. The problem is that most standard synthesizers (for example the Microsoft software synth) come with low-quality instrument samples. There are better sample collections out there (often in the soundfont format), but the good ones are usually big. The main soundfont I used is the new beta verison of Shan's General Midi font called SGM-V2b, which is around 250MiB.

Yeah, I just played the soundtrack and found out that it sounds better than within game :)

Small update, there's an additional track now (Three Riders Tower) and changes to two existing ones.

Wanna tell which one changed and why? This way I don't have to d/l all again...

Hey guys!

My name is Josh Whelchel, and I'm a fellow composer. David Saulesco and I have been in contact for the past few years, and it is quite the contrary that he has fallen off the face of the internet. David has a last.fm account that he uses, here: http://www.last.fm/music/David+Saulesco

These are neat renders of the soundtrack. David himself created (imo a nicer) mp3 collection in the same light that he had on his website a while back. I'll ask him about releasing them, as I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

I have an interesting render of the "Eternal Daughter" track (which is correctly named: "Wings of Destiny: Theme from Eternal Daughter") which I'll upload to last.fm later. It's a very simple conversion I used to test out my EWQLSO instruments when I first purchased them, I didn't spend anytime fixing articulations or anything as I probably should have.

The link (to my render) is on this page: http://www.last.fm/music/Josh+Whelchel/_/Wings+of+Destiny%3A+Theme+from+Eternal+Daughter+%28feat.+Josh+Whelchel%29
The music will be tagged with Artist "David Saulesco," so don't worry about that. (:

Anyway, I'll let you know.

I'm not a composer (yet), in the entire soundtrack, I never touched the actual midi data except one time, for changing one single note (see if you can find it ;)).

It would be awesome if you could talk to David about putting up his version again. After all, he's probably the one who knows best how it's supposed to sound.
