Okay, I vote for a patch that makes it impossible to cuddle with Li when in beast form. ;) Poor Li...  :D

Finally a little spare time! So here it is, my first digital painting in honor of Aquaria. I took me quite a while.  I'm sure,as anything else, this gets faster by practice, but now I respect the amount of work went into Aquaria even more. You guys deserve all the praise you get.

very cool and creepy, has a Lovecraft feel to it. it's a good thing I have a deviant account ( currently like for myspace, just to login. really been meaning to do something there tho ) as I got a mature/nudity filter and broken image link. the image showed up fine after I logged in tho. I don't think there necessarily needs any warning for purposes here, the boobies are well obscured by bubbles  ;)   definitly like the painterly approach and the vool skin texture

I take your word and remove the filter. Most people won't be able to see it if DA blocks them. I thought it will just give a warning.

that's just my opinion, but there are warnings for nude Naija's elsewhere, so it's probably a good idea to be a bit prudent.  half the time I don't notice that I'm looking at something naked until it's pointed out to me, not easily shocked. because your painting isn't overtly sexual and it's a fishy kind of nakedness it didn't set off my bells, but thinking about it can see that it might for lots of someone else.

That is a really different style. But it's cool! :)
And I think "fishy kind of nakedness" describes it quite well, I don't see why anyone may get offended by it...

Cause she's nude, no clothes, people are easily offended by that. I really like that pic too, the eyes frighten me a bit though.

I don't think nude counts unless there are nipples.  That's what they do in mangas to make it "less offensive".  I can't say I really like that picture.  It's creepy.

Well, if a fishwoman accompanied by a genocidal baby nautilus popping into your view isn't creepy, than I don't know what. I always felt the first reaction of Li to be very realistic. No matter how cute she's on further inspection, the first thing you do when seeing something utterly unusual is to ensure safe distance, like run away screaming.  I painted with that in mind.

Bearing in mind that Naija almost killed Li by taking off his helmet underwater, I think its fair that he ran away. ;)

Oh come on, you people all think it's so unnatural. Fish woman sees some weird guy in a suit with a helmet on, she doesn't know it's a helmet, but does know he resembles about the same as her looking at the body so she knows it is something that's on his head which she tries to get it off.

Li the same thing, a normal human suddenly seeing a mermaid, he gets scared and runs off, having never seen that before, he uses the wrong roads and gets cornered.

I must say they did a great job on this piece of storyline.

Yup, he forgot, as it seems. And I like that part of the storyline very much, I said I found the reactions of both characters very realistic. But still, it is a very much  creepy scene if you imagine it from a first person view, pretending not knowing the events that predate it.

I think that sometimes Naija can be a frightening character.  She's practically a dangerous predator. The beast form is good symbol of that aspect, that's why I liked a previous fanart depicting her as repulsive monster.  Sometimes she does things, that are, let's just say, not too environmentally sensitive. One of the oddest scene's of the game is when you venture into the nest of Nautilus Prime, kill the big momma, and raise a little nautilus made orphan by your own actions.

I think, this lack of  strict definiton of good and evil in the characters of Aquaria is an important element of the story. Think of the Creator, Naija's mom, Naija herself. Also, we are the most cruel predators of Earth, yet we don't like seeing ourselves like this.  In the end, this duality of the characters becomes a sensitive description of the nature of humanity.

That is why I would hate if this aspect of Aquaria never got adressed. It's sure relaxing to view her as the cute little girl that she is, but the other aspects of her character are the things that make her really interesting, and not just another reincarnation of  disney's little mermaid.
