Can I sing?
« on: December 16, 2007, 03:54:28 am »
Was looking through the user config file, and noticed it had a spot for Mic, which is off by default.

Does this mean that I can turn it on and use the Verse by voice?  Or was this scrapped at some point?

I remember Alec talking about having the option to use mic.

I wonder if that option works?

You want to sing yourself instead of using shortcuts or the mouse.
It sounds awesome, but you're crazy. xD
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Oooh neat.  A little horrifying too.  If I sing off-key, could it recognize the relative tonal variation?

This could be bad, considering that the censors only work for words that have been spelled/typed :p

It "worked" in an old version (that used a different audio library), but it was really difficult to pull off. You basically had to have perfect pitch. :)

yea, and you'd have to account for the variations in voice. You would have to make an entire software or use one such as one of those speech to text programs, and even those programs have difficulty sometimes.

Hmm? Well it just detected pitch so it was quite simple. Its just hard for humans to sing in pitch without hearing the tone first.

Package the boxed version with a pitch pipe  ;D

I've also found (with energy form) that the pitch for the second note in the song is different depending on which part of Aquaria you're swimming in.  So that could create an issue if the feature looks for perfect pitch.

Hmm, not possible to latch onto certain thresholds to make it a bit easier? If you took out sharps and just kind of hovered around A,B,C,D,E,F etc. it might be a bit easier...

But then, is it really necessary? :p
