Eternal Daughter - missing character?
« on: April 20, 2012, 09:37:58 pm »
Hi all - new to the forum :) I've joined up in desperation because of a difficulty I'm having with Eternal Daughter, and I really hope someone can help because I love the game.

No, this is not one of those ' Hume is too hard!! posts...this is a 'where the heck is Hume?' post. I have the wall-jumping boots, I have an almost full life bar, got the double jump, can beat more of my enemies so far, and have wandered around until I'm fed up, and still, the little metal gate that is supposed to lead to Hume (in Dungaga City, and over some water, near where the underwater weapon is) refuses to open. Please tell me there's a solution that I've stupidly overlooked - I want to continue with this game :(

Hey,

I can't remember what you need to open the door (Did you get the ability to talk to machines yet? It opens another door in Dungana where you get an item to do shield/charged flips. It can be found somewhere way up in Dungana).

Anyways, your question will be answered here for sure: http://www.indiefaqs.com/images/0/08/Eternal_daughter_walk.zip (Complete Walkthrough). :)

Unrelated side question:
How did you get it to work?
At some point it stops responding to controls, and the only way to get out is blindly using the task manager (I'm on XP.)
I'd really like to play ED when I have time (whenever that happens)...

Thank you :) I've now read the walkthrough, and yet I still cannot find Smirnol where he seems to be meant to be (unless I'm overlooking him - there doesn't seem to be a picture in the guide). I've now been everywhere I can go in Dungana City, except for where walls or metal gates physcially stop me. I've included a picture link of where I thought Smirnal *would* be (a) the metal gate (b) and the weird wall I cannot pass. Yep, I'm so determined to get going on this game that I bothered to take screencaps. I love it that much :D

False.Genesis - I've never had that problem I'm afraid, so I can't really help you with it - sorry :(. I am on Windows 7 though, so maybe that makes a difference. The controls do occassionally slow to a crawl, but the game is still playable, and if I get tired of the slowness I just do what you do and close the window and re-start.

Wow, now you made me play the game. A weird combo of gamepad + keyboard + win98-mode on XP actually worked.

I found him easily.
If i recally correctly it's somewhere around (C), just go left and down as far as possible from there and you should eventually find him.

Interesting - so I *was* stupidly looking in the wrong place. Only trouble is, now I can't get past that weird 'block' beneath/either side of the steel pipes in picture c. Did you just go through it, or did you have to do something?

Glad you got it working by the way :D

That large block that looks like junk? I saw an image in the walkthrough somewhere that you can lift it with some device, but besides this i have no idea. Didn't get that heart container yet.
Also i will likely not continue playing ED for now because i have lots of university work to do ~.~ (and an Aquaria mod to finish :P)

I finally watched a YouTube video of the Dungana City section....Smirnol is not where he's supposed to be! Unless I've missed doing something tiny earlier that triggers his appearance now, I'm essentially unable to finish the game. It's a bizarre bug if so, and, having searched online, it seems one other person has encountered this. (I'm still willing to believe it's my own stupidity at fault, if any one has any further solutions :D)

I'm baffled! Is anyone willing to share the link to where they downloaded their Eternal Daughter from , just in case I've managed to twice download a weirdly faulty copy? :)

Good luck with the uni work, False.Genesis - it's taken me a few years, but I've finally started to actually miss my days slaving over university papers ;)

If you really can't proceed because of a bug, I'm able to give you a savegame just before Hume. (I made savegames before and after all the bosses. :))

Oh, that would be wonderful! Thank you, I'd love to be able to get on with the game :)
(I'm willing to admit that it could be I'm just incompetent, and that it's not a bug, but regardless I need help :D With 25% of the game done, I'm too invested by now to quit ;D)

Just in case, here's mine, but i am a bit further into the game (beaten that almost impossible boss right after where you stopped), and collected another 1 or 2 items.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22111385/crap/slot1.sav

(And i have to admit, i used cheat engine to beat that boss, because i was unable to. ::) - Even using a gamepad didn't help that much; this boss is plain insanity if you ask me. Touching him means -3 HP, and he needs about 30 hits to go down - didnt count, but it felt like that.)

Cheater! ;) Hume is hard, but all you need is practice. After countless tries I was able to finish him without loosing health. :)

Arbar, just rename the file to slot1[or 2, 3].sav. :)

Thank you both :) :D I can't wait to start playing. :)

BTW, if anyhone ever wants to try out my saved game, to see if it is a bug or not, I just uploaded my main file here  http://continuumdesigns.co.uk/slot.sav  (save target etc. - I changed the name so it wouldn't overwrite your savefiles) :)

Thanks again :)

I'm a bit envious about how fast you managed to do this. ;) Congrats! Your chance of not despairing at the end boss have slightly risen.
