Your first Game
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:45:13 pm »
I have a lot of questions about you and your games. Why? Well, because I am curious, of course! ;)

Which was the first video game you have ever played?
Was it a video game that brought you into gaming or did it need a another game?
Was there anybody who influenced you? (A brother or sister, uncle, friend, whoever, who brought you into gaming)
Which was the first video game you bought yourself?
Which was the last one?

As a good example I will answer my own questions:
Which was the first video game you have ever played?

I think my first game ever was Kirby's Adventure (NES)
Oh, cute little Kirby!
Years later I bought it as WiiWare for the virtual console just out of nostalgia.

Was it a video game that brought you into gaming or did it need a another game?

The most memorable games of my childhood are Kirby's Adventures and The Secret of Monkey Island.
I loved Kirby as well as Monkey Island. But I sucked at MI. I didn't know how to save, so I played the beginning over and over again :D

Was there anybody who influenced you? (A brother or sister, uncle, friend, whoever, who brought you into gaming)

My cousin had a NES and later on a PSOne. I was highly fascinated but he never let me play :(
My best friend when I was a kid had an Amiga (well it was her sisters Amiga) and an Atari. Mostly she played and I watched.
Considering this I wonder no more, why I had to buy my very own console :D

Which was the first video game you bought yourself?

My first self-bought game were actually three games at once: Castlevania - Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy VII and Dynasty Warriors (all PSOne)
Two out of three great games. Not bad for an inexperienced girl ;)

Which was the last one?

Castlevania - Lords of Shadow (PS3) and PoPoLoCrois (PSP). Both haven't arrived yet.

Hi Lilitu,

I'm new on this forum also–  joined a few weeks ago, and am now having fun making a mod.  I never introduced myself really, just jumped in with modding questions, so here goes...

I always loved puzzles, so when games first started appearing for the Mac I bought them.  The first memorable one was one of the early RPG games Wizardry.  I played it with my 12-yr-old daughter and we had a great time.  Games didn't really catch on with her, but I was  hooked.  Other standouts over the years are the King's Quest games, 7th Guest, Myst and it's sequels, and my all time pre-Aquaria favorite, Fool's Errand.  The past couple of years I've been playing a lot of hidden object and adventure games, but it's getting hard to find those that aren't pretty simplistic.  And then in January I found Aquaria, and making the mod for it, trying to figure out the scripting language, Lua, and adding artwork is satisfying my puzzle craving nicely.

If it ever appears, and I have to believe it will, the sequel to Fool's Errand, The Fool and his Money, is due out shortly.  Cliff Johnson has been working on it for eight years; the teaser is downloadable from Cliff's website and is great fun.

Aside from computer gaming, I live in New York State, USA, am a natural science illustrator and teacher.

Pfsh, you're asking questions I'm not sure I can even still answer.

1. I'm fairly sure my first video game was on the PC, and it was a DOS game, that's for sure, had no advanced graphics, did have sprites however.

2. I know for certain that this game didn't get me into video gaming, the few games that got me hooked were Windows 95 games that were on a Disney compilation disc. Very awesome, was usually click adventure games.
After that it became games like Command & Conquer and Unreal Tournament '99 that got me into the more hardcore gaming.

3. My dad was a computer nut, he always had to have the newest of the newest and let me play on it as well from a very young age, I think he's the biggest blame for my computer addiction. <3

4. The first game I bought myself... I am not sure! My brother has a SNES, bought games for that, my parents bought me an N64, I never really bought games myself seeing I never got any allowance.... though I suppose it was a Gameboy Color game once I did get stuff!

5. Last game I bought was prepurchase of Portal 2
I'm a big fan of Valve's games.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Man, there's a tough question. I'm fairly sure it was on a PC or an early-generation Macintosh. I was always more into watching other people play games than playing them myself--possibly out of necessity, since there were always fewer computers than people and I always hung out with kids who were older and more assertive than myself. As a result, I remember a lot of early videogames, but which ones did I actually play? I have absolutely no idea. I've been immersed in the subculture for literally longer than I can remember.

Friends. For most of my childhood, I probably could not name one male acquaintance under the age of 19 who was not at least somewhat into gaming. Obviously it rubbed off on me.

Ha, now there's a memory. The first game that I got which wasn't either free or purchased by someone else... I believe it was Warcraft II, when I was eight or so. I didn't pay for it myself, though, not strictly speaking--I actually talked my school's budget allocation committee into supplying the needed funds, enlisted a bunch of other students, and (with their help) talked a couple of teachers into arranging a class field trip to an electronics store so we could buy it during school hours.

Magicka. Which I should start a thread about, come to think of it.

Which was the first video game you have ever played?
Super Mario Land on the original Gameboy. :D
Fantastic game. It felt like an enormous achievement to complete it - and it was so awesome when I finally beat it on hard mode!

Was it a video game that brought you into gaming or did it need a another game?
From there, I was introduced to Yoshi, who I thought was just awesome a character, and it snowballed form there.

Nope. I got myself into it.
I think off the top of my head, it was walking around in shops, and the (then) super-awesome latest technology looked all cool and shiny in my eyes. Was always interested in complex things like cogs and machinery at an early age.

Which was the first video game you bought yourself?
Pokemon Yellow. Awesomegasm. :D

Which was the last one?

Last game bought? Aquaria! :3

My first game was Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, when I was maybe 7-8 years old. It blew my mind. Needless to say, I fell in love with the franchise.
