Aquaria needs to be on XBLA!
« on: December 10, 2007, 07:49:23 am »
This game is  a masterpiece. I noticed that in the FAQ it is mentioned that this may come to the Xbox 360. I think it'd be perfect for the Xbox Live Arcade even though it's much better than pretty much every arcade game out at the moment. I think it could be sold for an above average price because of it's quality, just like the Puzzle Quest game.

If you haven't been in contact with somebody who can get this game on XBLA then I urge you guys to do so ASAP. It'd be so great to see this up there and I'm sure it would quickly become one of the most popular arcade games.

Good luck! ;D

I just want to say I second this suggestion.

I've bought the game on PC, of course, but I wouldn't
hesitate to buy it again on XBLA to support Bit Blot
and indie games generally.

Oh, and achievements
and rumble support could only make the game even
more awesome!  ;D  It would definitely by far be the
best game on XBLA.

I will say I'm an achievement junkie so I'd love to see this on the 360. Thanks for bumping the topic up by the way...I was a bit discouraged when I got on this morning and saw 87 views and no replies haha.

I think the 360 controller would work well with the controls too. Left analog stick to swim around and right analog stick for "Verse" control.

EDIT: I just noticed that the 360 controllers are already supported. That's great...that much closer to actually getting the game on XBLA. I really hope this happens.

Hah, I'd cry if it is released on XBLA. My 360 got banned xD
Nevertheless I support the idea. Aquaria + Achievements = Win.

However I'd also like to see this on PSN.

Not WiiWare, though, as I have hardly any space left, anyway xD

So, go XBLA and PSN :3

Why does everyone keep saying things like this?  Why XBLA and not as a full Xbox 360 game?  Why PSN, or Wiiware?  This isn't some mini-game - it's large, involved, with high production values.  Sure, as a downloadable that's the easier thing to do, but that's for the developers to worry about, not us :)

Oh believe me, I'd love to see this sold as a full game but realistically it just makes sense for it to be a downloadable XBLA game. It's 200mb which is around the size of most XBLA games and it could be sold for 1200 MS points...although that's only about $20, however to make it closer to it's current price of $30 either something could be taken out or downloadable content could be sold to make up for those $10. It's not ideal, but it's up to Alec and Derek and if they were willing to have thing price at $20 on XBLA the game would sell like hotcakes either way. :)

Sadly, one has to understand that for everything out there that hits the net, some of it will leak through to the underbelly.  Well, I paid for mine and don't regret it one bit:)  Told a few friends about it and hopefully they will too.

And here's to hoping that at least some of the people who download the naughty version will like it so much they'll pay for it to out of principal.

For sure. It's sad to see Aquaria already up on torrent sites. That's another reason why an XBLA version of this game would be great: XBLA games can't be pirated easily.

It will take a good sucess on the PC to see an XBLA release. I've reads that it costs a developer $10,000 US just to get a game "Tested and approved" for XBLA release before it can even be sold. That's a lot of up front cost. I think they have to  buy or rent the SDK they need to convert it to XBLA as a further cost over and above the initial outlay for approval making the up front cost even larger. That kind of capital to even get a startup on XBLA is going to require a lot of PC sales, and not just enough to pay the price of releasing it on XBLA, I mean why spend all your profit on an unkown market? They would need to make MORE than enough for the startup fees to make it financially viable. Lets see how they go on the initial release platform :)

I think for the 360 this game wouldn't sell many copies unless on XBLA.  XBLA seems to be the better fit on that end.  However, for the Wii I think it makes perfect sense to go the full monty and have it as an actual, full game.  The Wii doesn't shoot for the most amazing technology ever, it shoots for fun games that can make good use of its unique hardware.  That fits Aquaria to a T.

Hmm, well that is a bit of a hurdle...but hey, with the right exposure and media coverage they could do it.

I would love to see this on PSN with the robust mod systems.
I'm loving it so much I would love to see it either XBLA or PSN.  I wonder what are PSN's authorizations costs compared to Lives.  I know the devs kits are around 30000.00. :(

@ Crizzle: I wasn't saying it would be a bad thing for it to come to XBLA BTW, just explaining why it probably hasn't happened yet ;)

Given the amount of people who own a 360 vs a PS3 and the costs involved in both it would be far more cost effective to go with microsoft if it where to happen at all, not to mention the PS3 is awkward to develop for, if you are new to it it could be a very long road ahead.

Also hasn't anyone considered the price point and how it would be delivered on a console? if you think about it microsoft arcade titles are on average 800 points, few pushing it to 1200 (like luminies was and the xbox original titles), 1600 microsoft points costs about $20, the game is retailing on pc for $30, so either the game would have to come down in price or it would have a high microsoft point price tag to match the pc version cost which would reduce its likely hood of people buying it.

Totally agree. This is one of those game that could get extreme popular if it were released on XBLA (almost seems perfect for it), mostly because it's so unique looking and soothing to play (might turn out to be a wanna-have thing for people). Maybe it's better to wait a while, see how people respond (maybe tweak things a little even - not that it really needs it).
