Help with first boss (minor spoilers)

Okay, I really suck, but I've been stuck here for like an hour. How do I beat the first boss (or second or whatever... the big one with claws that takes up the whole passage in the energy temple).

I can push the boss back to reveal a broken pearl, which I can then move into a pearl holder. If I shoot the pearl holder / pearl, it sends up a laser. However, the boss is twenty feet down the hall at that point, so th only thing that laser can hit is me. I also tried wailing on the boss for like five minutes, but that didn't seem to do much.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

I am having trouble on that one too, I can get it lured over twice, but on the third time for some reason it just swipes at me and refuses to budge any further forward. What am I doing wrong?

Not doing anything wrong, you just have to time it JUST right.

SPOILER (highlight to read):  He still swipes/lunges at you, so trigger the beam when his head/arm is in it.

Use the charged attack to knock the boss back, you need all 3 shots to hit to move him a step.
Knock him back far enough to switch forms and get the pearl.
Change back to energy form and use the walls to jump. If you land near his feet, he will lunge forward to swipe at you, so jump backward.
Do this enough times to draw him into the trap. Then activate the pearl with a charged shot. Do this a couple times and he dies.

getting the pearl is the easy part for me, just push him back far enough for me to use bind on it.

I haven't gotten the third hit on him yet. I'm going to try again soon though as I have a whole bunch of healing supplies. somehow I missed the healing poultice. The problem before was that he would kill me quickly with the swipe. I think using the hearty soup might help.

Heres hoping I get past this ugly guy.
