A way to use the costume from the ending?
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:23:50 am »
I'm not sure if this belongs in this subforum or not, and I also find it very difficult to believe that this has not been covered before in another thread, but I DID search - I checked almost every topic related to the ending and searched through the costume mod thread and some others, and didn't see anything about it, so I'm making a topic to ask...

Basically, the white, plain clothes costume Naija has from the ending - is there a way to use that while playing the main game? And if so, has anyone actually made a mod that lets you do that, because I'm SURE it can be done with modding, but HAS it, and if so, does anyone actually have the link?

For theme's sake if this can be done with Li as well, I'd like to know. I know the costume mod has a way to switch Naija into the white clothing costume but it only seems to last while I'm in that mod itself, I haven't found a way to carry that over to the main game.

Thanks for any help

Edit - I'm SURE this has been asked before and this might be the wrong subforum, so I apologize for no doubt making a mistake there, but I'm just really curious and unable to find this myself. Making a thread was a last resort kind of thing.

Go to this folder: Aquaria\gfx\naija
Back it up first.
Then copy and rename all end-###.png to naija2-###.png and replace them with the original.

If you don't know how to do this or if it wasn't clear enough I'll explain more thorough.

EDIT: Oh and glad to see a friendly face again, welcome. ^^

Thanks! I can do that, but is there a way to get it in the main game as an actual costume? I've noticed that some mods actually have it as an item you interact with and Naija changes into that - obviously it can't take up a treasure slot like all the intended costumes, but I'm just wondering if there's any way to basically place the item the mods use to let Naija change into and out of that costume, in the main game itself.

If not your way will have to do, and I appreciate the help, but just curious

Well, it COULD be possible to add a node and script to the actual main game in a mod... and like place it somewhere in her home cavern.
Sadly enough I haven't touched the edit mode of Aquaria in a long time and I'm not sure if I would succeed at all.

I've also once talked about making a bridge-jump-portal-thing mod to the main game which would bring you to an extra map... it would certainly give one more liberty to add something to the main game. A debug or teleport room, if you will.

If you really want this I could try my paws at this once more, but I can't promise anything.

P.S: I'm not really 100% sure as to how far the changing costume works, once you change a costume and back through the treasure screen you'll surely end up with the default costume again. (Also can be done in the extra end when you meet you know who. If you change there and change back, you ALSO end up in the default costume.) This all meaning you'd have to go back to your home cave to change back once more.
Another alternative would simply be replacing a treasure/extra costume that you don't like using anyway. You could even change the icon. ^^

If you're up for more modding, go for it. Extending your costumes mod to link to the main game, or whatever you feel like doing, could be interesting. As well as would be figuring out how to add items to the main game, so that you could place the end game costume in her home cave. Or anything else you'd like.

But this is if you're up for it, I would not want to force you into something you aren't really willing to do, especially since I have no idea how hard of a task I'd be asking you to do. But if you did, I'd certainly appreciate it, and I'm sure others wouldn't mind as well. Ultimately, it's your decision if you want to put in however much effort it takes, though.

For now I think I'll take your suggestion about simply changing the looks of another costume I don't like...I never considered doing that. The thing that confuses me about that is, though, exactly HOW to do it. The end game costume seems to be all of 4 parts for Naija. Other costumes, including her original form look, contain many more parts than that. So how I go about making the switch complete, I'm a little unclear on. As well as removing things like the various capes/cloaks. I could simply delete the file from the Naija folder, but I'm not sure if that would work or not, I've heard that improperly messing with graphics files results in white blocks, rather than simply nothing loadings.

To be specific, if I use your suggested alternative, I'd like to change the jellyfish costume into looking like the end game. Suggestions for the best way to achieve this? When I followed your advice for turning default Naija into end game, it mostly worked, but due to end game only apparently having 4 parts, I ended up still having some leftover original Naija costume pieces, including but not limited to the shawl thingy she has.

If you want to replace an existing costume, there's actually an easier way to go about it. Dig down into the Aquaria/data/animations/skins folder (back it up first!), and you should see some files like "cc.xml", "etc.xml", and so on. These match the names of the graphics in the gfx/naija folder, so choose whichever one you want to replace (for the jellyfish costume, it's "jelly.xml") and copy "end.xml" over that file.

The caveat is that this doesn't change the cape, so you have to either choose a costume that doesn't have a cape to start with, or replace the cape graphic like Alphasoldier described above. The capes are all "cape*.png" in the gfx/naija folder; in this case, you'd copy "cape.png" over "cape-jelly.png" to get the regular Naija cape. You could also create a transparent 1x1 PNG in a graphic editor and save that over "cape-jelly.png", which should in theory make the cape disappear (though I haven't actually tried it).

Achurch is more than right, you could also change the XML files, but would end up with still needing to change the cape.

If you still want to do it graphics wise.. the end costume has only 4 parts because those are the ONLY parts that are different from the main costume. So if you'd want to replace the other files, you'd have to copy them from the original naija2_*.png and rename those too.

To get back on the mod topic though... even if it'd be just for one person I'd love to try it, as long as I know it'll be used. ^^

Yogoda made Naija fly by hooking her up with an invisible entity; maybe there is a way to make the cape invisible.

One does not simply "add" an entity to the main game, easier is to just replace the cape with an empty *.png file.

Aight, I'll see if I can't get it to work in the meantime, by changing some other costume into it. I never use any of the costumes because I prefer the default look, to be honest, so I'll probably just keep it simple for the moment and change one of the costumes that already does not have a cape.

And I assure you, if you DO decide to extend/make a mod, atleast I will use it. I just didn't want to pressure you into what could possibly be a very difficult and time consuming task just to please me. It'd be selfish of me to demand you do this.
