How old does a topic have to be
« on: May 19, 2010, 10:57:49 am »
... for it to be considered necromancy?

And if I do ever find a really old topic that makes me wonder about something, what should I do? Quote the old topic in a new topic?

About two months.

If you find an interesting old topid, you still shouldn't post on it. Usually y0u just kinda keep it to yourself. If there is an old topic discussing some sort of modding issue (for example), that still exists (as in, the information in the thread is still correct, it's not outdated), and you found a workaround or made a fix, then it would be fine to post it. However, do NOT post on old threads asking for support (unless it's your own thread and you never got an answer, but you think you should have). Usually the user asking for support will be long gone or has figured it out for himself. Or gave up, whatever. A bump like that is usually considered unnecessary.

Pretty much for everything else, either keep it to yourself or try to bump it in a certain way that will make people stay on topic instead of accusing you :P

Post your question in a new thread and pretend you never saw the old one!

There's a sticky "I am stuck!" thread so if you're stuck in Aquaria you go there, sticky threads can be bumped whenever, it's partly why they're stickied.

If you see a thread with awesome content that's over a few months old you don't just go in there and post "Omgawd that's awesome!" or anything like that, it adds nothing to the thread, it's simply a bump then.

If you see an old topic that interests you and you have content to add I'd say go right ahead, however if there's a thread with a question that's 2 months old you can't expect the person who asked it to still be around, is useless.

That's how I look at all of that anyway.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

What they said.

Old threads only if they are sticky or you are adding new content (not answering old questions). Generally I prefer bringing an old thread up before creating a new one about totally the same.

If I accidentally bump a thread, it "un-bumps" when I click the remove button on the post, right? =^.^=
