Graphical Aberations on widescreen monitor when fullscreen
« on: December 08, 2007, 05:19:53 am »
Firstly, I notice you don't have an option for 1600x1200  :(

But trying to play with 1280x960 or 1400x1050 produces weird graphical effects if I play with them full screen.  (Using any nVidia scaling option, although playing the game in a window resolves this issue)

Here are some example screen shots from 1280x960

and 1400x1050

Also, I can't buy the game at the moment as the server is not responding :(

Yeah, widescreen isn't supported yet as mentioned in the AQConfig and readme.

We're working on it!

Plimus is being weird right now, we'll check it out. :)

Thanks for posting!

Strangely enough I have the same issues on my 19" non-widescreen monitor...

My native resolution is 1280x1024 (5:4, like in many modern monitors) but when I used 1280x960 in other games and applications everything was scaled correctly - not so in Aquaria. I'll wait for a fix because I don't want to spoil the fun... So far the game seems like nothing but a real masterpiece - even judging or rather especially judging by non-indie standards. I mean, c'mon you were just two guys and a girl. :-D

P.S. I've experienced some slowdown issues when shooting fireballs even though I'm running the game on a Core2Duo E6600 @3,2 GHz, 4GB RAM @1000 MHz and a GeForce 8800 GTX... I'm not writing this to brag around, only so that you might consider some further optimization... OK, I'm running on Vista32 but I hope everybody has realized by now that it's just a myth that everything runs THAT much slower under Vista - a couple of percent slower AT MOST.

Likewise. I'm on a 22" and can't seem to get things looking quite right. (Screen defaults right over to the left, and there seems to be a hole gang of on the fly loading happening). The game looks stunning, or rather will, with some tech issues ironed out. I look forward to the widescreen patch!

Will have a bit more of tinker to see if I can improve things from my end.

Cheers.

EDIT: Windowed mode seems to be the best bet for now. Much much better.

Actually, I'm having some graphical glitches, but it's  not nearly as bad as what you're seeing. Randomly, I'm seeing a red line appear across the screen, maybe once every couple of mintues, for a split second. It's not too annoying, but I figured it would be a good idea to post it here.

I'm running Vista 32 bit, running at the 1280x960 on a widescreen monitor (not like that would matter) with an ati radeon x1900. It may have to do with my graphics drivers so I'll see if I can update them this coming week, and I'll tell you guys if it changes anything.

I found a workaround that yields acceptable results on 5:4 monitors (1600x1280, 1280x1024 etc.).

I am having a similar problem to the one described in the original post. My monitor is a 1920x1200 LCD, and in addition to the problem described there, in 1400x1050 fullscreen mode the video output is on the far left side of the monitor, and the graphical errors extend beyond the width of the 1400x1050 area, which is extremely abnormal behavior for my video card.

For all that this game impresses in windowed mode, I can only imagine how much of an improvement a properly working fullscreen would be. I appreciate the promptness of response and patching that you've shown so far.

I'm having a problem with the screen looking like this also.
I tried 1280x960 full screen and windowed and I got this.
Then I tried editing the cfg file and making it 1280x1024.
I tried it in full and windowed and got the same problem.
I then updated my drivers and tried i all again and got the same problem.
I then started messing with the options.
When I removed Framebuffer Effects the problem stopped.

I have a Nvidia 7800.
Win XP
AMD 4200
Is there maybe some settings in the Nvidia Control Panel to make this look right?

Thanks!

I had the same problems! I don't exactly know what cured the problem for me... but the only thing I can think of that could have done it was setting custom resolutions in init.cfg. I set the resolution of the game to match the screen ratio of my widescreen monitor (16:10). That worked fine, but I noticed something weird, setting widescreen resolutions had an odd effect on my framerate, even at 1280x800. So I tried setting the resolution back to one of the the defaults, which gave me a large boost in fps and for some reason the graphical oddities were no longer there.

So, what I'd suggest, after updating your vidcard drivers of course, would be to set a custom resolution in init.cfg. One that matches your screen ratio. Test it out, if it works fine that's great! If you find you're getting bad fps, switch back to one of the default resolutions and hopefully the graphical problems will be fixed! I really can't think of any way why this would make sense, but nonetheless I hope it helps!!

A followup, I just figured out what was causing the problem for me.

It was windowblinds.  I tried unloading it, and then running it again and all is well, no graphical problems.
