Eternal Daughter - Fullscreen?
« on: December 05, 2007, 07:34:53 am »
I figure this is the best place to post and ask this.

I've been getting the urge to play through Eternal Daughter again, maybe I'll actually kill the final boss this time too.  But, my new computer now runs at a 1440x900 resolution, and the game runs in a small window with a big black border around the whole thing.  Well, first, it starts off in the top left corner of my desktop, after adjusting the resolution.  Then, if I click out of it, or alt-tab, and go back into it, it goes to the big black border.  It's perfectly playable, but neither is very satisfactory (though the black border is the better of the two), and I was just wondering if there's a way I can get it to go bigger?  If it helps any, I'm using Vista.  Oh, and I'll include pictures of what it looks like.  http://picasaweb.google.com/Zaratus/RandomScreens

I've tried a number of things, but maybe I've overlooked something.  Or perhaps it's just not possible on this system to get it bigger.  If not, no big deal, just I'd prefer to get that a bit larger.

Can you change the display mode for your display?  I know my monitor has a display mode with 3 options (1:1/Aspect/Fill)  I had to set it to Fill for the screen to eliminate the black borders.

Now if it's an attached screen like a laptop, there may be similar options in your graphics control panel.

Hope this helps.

When I run ED normally it just streatches the game over my screen. Then again, I am on XP.

If you told your monitor to not streatch stuff then that would be a problem.

Well, I'm on a laptop with Vista.  Hmm, I'll see if I can find some display properties somewhere else - I didn't see anything in the video card settings.  The smallest resolution I can pick in the display properties is 800x600 however.  My guess is that when I run the game, it's resizing the resolution, but it can't change it to a small enough resolution.

Nope, can't find anything new that I haven't tried already.  It wouldn't be a problem if the border was small, but it's pretty large.  About 2 1/4 inches on the top and bottom, and 4 1/4 inches on either side.

Weird thing is that at the office, putting it fullscreen would make it 800x600, but keeping my 1280x1024 resolution!! So I would see a little window, surrounded by black.

But, at home, the fullscreen worked just fine!

As for the last boss thing... I made a cheat to do it... I'm not enough of a pro-gamer to kill that thing!! (It's just SO hard!!!!)

Sorry, wish I could help... I'm actually surprised the game runs at all on Vista. :'(

What kind of video card do you have?  If you have an nVidia card, there's actually a separate nVidia control panel thingum; open that up, and find "Change Flat Panel Scaling" under the Display category.  One of the options there might be able to help.

Nope, I've already tried ALL of those.  One of them successfully makes the game even SMALLER though.  Thanks anyway though, I'll just have to play it like it is.  Everything else seems to work fine on it.

I still think this game needs to be remade for DS or something.  Seriously, even if somebody just got it working on a flashcart or something I could die a happy man.  I want to go through it again really bad, but for some reason the music speeds up and slows down slightly when I play it full screen, and it just sounds really strange.  I'm still too busy with Aquaria to go back to it yet anyway, but I would truly love a portable version.  I would pay for a portable version.  If you make me a portable version, I will hand you moneys.  Seriously.

 ... please?

Also, to be back on topic (sort of) I'm on XP and it works okay for me with the exception of that sound issue.  Compatibility modes don't seem to work correctly, or they force it into a window.  Not sure why that is.

Another way for Bit Blot to make money without having to do so much work!  Except you'd probably have to share the proceeds with all those other guys.  Still, I wouldn't mind an Alec-reimagining of the music from ED (which was quite good already).

On DS? hmm...

That game is terribly hard to beat (I managed by cheating, I admit it! :D ) so I would love to see people crying over there DS while there being PWNED by Baphomet. XD

But a remake would really be appreciated! :P

ED for GBA/DS was actually something that came up on the old Blackeye forums extremely soon after the game's release...I think the general consensus was that, due to MMF being a ridiculous monster of a language and so specifically engineered for PCs, a straight port would be essentially impossible. So it'd have to be a remake, from the ground up. This, I suspect, would lead Derek to choke nine, maybe ten thousand bitches.

Plus the GameFAQs messageboards would actually manage to break several physical laws by becoming even more retarded as the server groaned and eventually collapsed under the strain of the hundreds of new "omg how do u beet hume he is to hard!1!!!one!!" threads started every hour.
