What about WiiWare?

Hi guys.

First, congrats on the work. I'm absolutely in love with the games concept, art and all. Very nice piece of work.

Well, I was reading about the game at IGN's boards and some people think that would be cool to see the game on WiiWare. I think the game would work great with the Wii controls... and the style and art of the game fits the Wii's audience more than X-Box 360 and PS3, IMO.

I know that this probably was already mentioned before, but... man, it just sound right!

They only problem is, I think that the limit of WiiWare is 40mb or something...

Well, on Wii or PC I'll sure buy it (and if it goes Wii I'll buyt it two times!). Congrats again ppl.

This. =[ Alec said Aquaria is around 200mb, thats almost half of the Wii's flash memory. Then again... have you seen Square's Final Fantasy game? I'm wondering how they're fitting all that into around 40/50mb. Maybe Nintendo has some super-secret compression method. xP

As far as I know Nintendo has denied the 40mb-limit for their WiiWare-Service.

Here's the original quote by some kind of Nintendo spokesperson:

"I can confirm as we originally said at the announcement of the WiiWare service earlier in the year that WiiWare games will come in a range of sizes but we will encourage smaller, more compact games for the service"

The emphasis of this quote being on "encourage".

It would definetly be awesome to see Aquaria on consoles, best on all three, but I guess we'll have to wait a while and see.

We know the 40MB limit basically from Matt Cassimassina and Mark Bozon, who spoke about it on IGN's Wii-k in Review. They've had access to some documents. The quote from Nintendo really doesn't disprove anything.

Given the amount of music, voice acting, and high-res art, I simply don't see Aquaria fitting down to that filesize. I think an XBLA port is probably more likely.

I personally would love to have this as a real Wii game - not WiiWare.  I hate that 2D console games just don't get made anymore, except the occasional puzzle or fighting game.  You would get less money per copy sold, true, but I would think a ton more copies would sell.  The problem, unfortunately, is finding a publisher - publishers tend to be afraid of taking chances - but once you've got a complete PC game you can show them, that'll make it a lot less of a risk.

I would think that finding a publisher would be easier since they've already finished the game. It's not as if they'd need to invest money on the game's full development.

Well, if the FAQ says that the game will have around 100mb. Who know, maybe Nintendo really has some super-secret compression methods, like Kyuur said.

I learned about this game after reading the "wii ware" thread on IGN and I went ahead and forwarded it to Capcom and posted about it on their Ask Capcom boards.  Christian Svensson, the VP of Strategy at Capcom US is a ballsy guy and he listens to the feedback he gets from his boards.   People like us asking is why Okami is coming to the Wii.

I would sincerely hate to see Alec and Derek move out of the indy scene, but at the same time I fully agree with the earlier poster who said this could work as a straight-up Wii game.  A few bug fixes and maybe a very, very tiny amount of tweaking and I can see this doing great on the Wii.  The graphics are certainly good enough to hold up with much of what's currently on the system, and there's plenty of gameplay as well.
