I need to look through the games already posted again, because there are so many :O  But, I'm very picky about which games I recommend since there are so many out there...  So many games... so little time :P

Well here are the games that I recommend.  (All for PC)

I believe each of these games have exceptional qualities.
tier 1 means pretty much perfect.
tier 2 is still awesome.
tier 3 still has outstanding qualities but maybe lacking in another area.

*D means demo available
*F means freeware
*C means only commercial

tier 1 games :
=Aquaria *D http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YqY9mDOw-UI
[It's Aquaria silly! (I got a couple people to buy it too :D)] http://www.bit-blot.com/aquaria/index.html

=Cave Story *F http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7dr6-NKqVwk

[strategy game... not freeware, but really interesting] http://www.introversion.co.uk/darwinia/

=Bionic Commando : Rearmed *C http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kcutOllbECk
[if you loved the original Bionic Command move this to tier 1] http://www.bioniccommando.com/

=Melty Blood Act Cadenza ver. B *D http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-7u-rwTNkY
[Best fighting game I've played in a long time... can be multiplayer] http://mirrormoon.org/news/2008/10/melty_blood_act_cadenza_trial_english_v1_0_released

=Starsiege : Tribes *F http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LvdkzioSzVc
[old free multiplayer FPS game... best of its kind, as far as I know :O Can have a steep learning curve...] http://www.fileplanet.com/140246/140000/fileinfo/Starsiege:-Tribes-Full-Game?r=5

=Crescent Pale Mist *C http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Pep3oVlAafE
[if it were in english, it'd be tier 1.  Action game.] http://classic-shikoukairo.jpn.org/

=Ether Vapor *D http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=g2r7-JS4Wkc
[Awesome shooter... again not in english.  It seems to be really fun.] http://edelweiss.skr.jp/works/ethervapor/index.html

=Trouble Witches *D http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sKJst6ylTGM

=Cloudphobia *F http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qz0zO06yHHY
[Work in progress... but the most interesting/refined freeware scrolling shooter game I've played] http://www.dwahan.net/uki/

=the white chamber *F http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zk7WPlPNEns
[freeware horror sci-fi adventure game... more of a scary short story than anything else] http://www.studiotrophis.com/site/projects/thewhitechamber

I vouch for all these games to be exceptional in some way, descriptions and footage is within the youtube link~
I kinda want to put images up to make it easier and descriptions but whew I'm tired out!

Holy crap dude.  Nice post.  Thanks for putting in all that effort... I'll totally have to check some of those out as soon as I'm off of Fallout 3.

A new game was released today :O
http://www.dwahan.net/Marsbound/cloudphobia/index_e.html
The arcade style side scrolling Cloudphobia!  I believe created by a single person, they finally finished it and released it today :)
There's a trial version that has 2 of the 5 levels free to play.  I just bought the full version using the paypal button for about 17$... mmmm it seems like it might be a little short, but it's an awesome rush.

First Iji... then Aquaria gets updated, and now this is released!  It's a good year for 2-d indie developed games :)

Indeed - I recently read an article on how indie games are becoming ever more popular due to the recent recession.

I don't think it has anything to do with the recession honestly.

I was only serving as a mouthpiece for the article. Pretty pretentious language, eh?  ;)

i got a good one I've been playing for a while it's an RTS (on steam mind you) and well worth the money, when each game can last up to 10 hours and it's not that hard to stop play and play again another day, It's called AI war. http://www.arcengames.com/aiwar_features.php I can easily and strongly recomend this game to anyone with friends or a strong tactical mind, oh did I forget to mention it has 8 play coop?

How's about an awesome one Derek Yu did? How about...
SPELUNKY!
Kiss your free time goodbye. It's a platformer where you're an explorer who carries a whip, Indiana Jones-style, and uses ropes and bombs to navigate through randomly-generated levels. Combined with the amount of enemies and interesting ways to die, it never gets boring.

What I love most about this game are all the hidden features you learn about as you play the game that give it a lot of depth. All kinds of items can be found or purchased in the game that can be useful, such as climbing gloves, a compass, or a shotgun. There's a damsel that you can rescue, and she'll heal you one health point at the end if you do, but you can also leave her to rot, kill her, or sacrifice her on an altar in exchange for useful items. There are idols that you can try to steal, but beware the booby traps! There are shopkeepers that you can buy from, but you can also steal from or kill if you want to (but beware the consequences!). There are also hidden areas, but I think I've spoiled enough already. Just try it!

Hi,
On GameHouse, you can find the hottest game releases and all of your favorite downloadable games and online games, for both Windows and Mac, from the top game publishers. So explore the site. You'll find games in all of your favorite categories including hidden object, puzzle, classic games and more.

Oh look, more spam in our actual good topics.

FYI, don't go to GameHouse, it only has those horrible half hour trial games that are all alike and you have to pay if you want to play it, which... really isn't worth the money.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Hi,
On GameHouse, you can find old ideas in low-quality versions and all the downloadable and online games you really don't want, for Windows, Mac, and any other operating system vulnerable to spyware, from the worst-paid game publishers. So explore the site (if you dare). You'll find games in a few categories that everybody hates including hidden object, puzzle, old games and... wait that's it.

Edited for truth. Unleash the captchas! BTW, this really isn't on topic, but Steam's having a great sale on an indie games pack (Altitude, Bob Came in Pieces, and Galcon stand out) for the low, low price of 9.99!  ;)
