I imagine you sitting there playing it with your head tilted to one side, using only one eye to look at the screen while holding your nose, periodically jotting down notes of all the stuff you hate as you furiously keep playing for some unknown reason. :)
Yes, I must be an elitest for not sharing the same opinion as you.  ::)  The game just didn't work for me.  It worked for you.  That is no reason for you caricature me.  And, to be clear, I didn't say that I hated the game.  The gameplay, as with the other MGS games, was rather brilliant.  The original Super Mario Bros has a stupid plot (a plumber without a good map goes from castle to castle searching for a lost princess), but is a great game.  I enjoyed playing MGS 2, but had a hard time getting over the plot (fortunately, it was possible to skip most of the cutscenes).

Aww, I'm just teasing.  ^-^

I am kind of curious why you'd play all the way through to the end if you disliked it that much though.

EDIT:
Thing is about MGS plots... the only thing I really expect from them is to get me confused and interested.... and present me with many WTF moments.

e.g. when the President grabs Raiden's balls and then is like "You're a man??"

The section where Raiden is running around naked and somehow manages to cover up whilst doing so.

That crazy fat boss that throws bombs at you while riding around on roller skates and sipping drinks.

I love how the voice actors get to ham it up too.

I don't know, there's just nothing that mixes things up quite like MGS.

I'd have to agree with Alec.

All I can say is thank god for Hideo Kojima!  Not a stale tale in his repertoire.  Best way I can describe it is, I enjoy getting lost in his stories so much that I forget I'm even playing a game or how much time has passed while doing so.  I know, not everyone is a fan, but I've played through all of the MGS games  at least 3 times... except the original Metal Gear (the nes version), played through it twice (had to prove that I passed it to a friend).   The MGS games weren't just a cinematic treat either, the gameplay progressing the story was just as interesting.  Graphics were complimented by an excellent use of sound.  On top of that, there were so many other little things you could see and do with plenty of hidden easter eggs for persistent gamers.  I can't imagine how bland some of todays games would be without Kojima-San and his powerful influence and amazing development direction which was equaled only by his sense of style and humor.

That MGS4 trailer has been making me drool.  I wonder if the Raiden/Vamp fight will be part of the final product?

Can't wait...  ;D

I've only played the first MGS (although I did try Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, but only 5 minutes since the controls were rather bad. It's interesting that MGS is in fact the third Metal Gear) and I must say that overall I agree with xander.

MGS is a great game, with a really good gameplay and atmosphere. But the story sucks. The game can be really cool up until the fight with Psycho Mantis, but after that it becomes a bit silly (I expect MGS2 to be about the same). I can't really decide if the Gene stuff they babble about is funny or downright sad.

First of all, how many here have played Corruption? Secondly, do you guys just hate MGS2 because Snake wasn't the main character? The Metal Gear Solid series was never based solely on Snake, but on the theme of corrupt governments. In first three games of the Solid series, Snake is only the main character in the first one.

I didn't played Metroid Corruption yet ( apparently because game developpers hate Europe...)  but I'm a huge fan of the franchise. It is my most wanted game with Super Mario Galaxy and Aquaria (of course ;) ) and I just can't wait to play it.

I just said that players always say when a new game from a franchise is out that it is the best of the franchise, and that it might change within a few months. I never said that Corruption was a bad game, and I seriously hope that it is indeed the best game in the Metroid saga.
I should think about something stupid to put in there...

I disliked the story, and the characters, but really liked the gameplay.  The ability to skip the cutscenes made MGS2 a good game.

I'm of the opinion that the silliness is part of its greatness. I love how some people were offended by how you could get in a barrel and roll down a hill to knock over soldiers in MGS4. I'm like... its Metal Gear Solid! Its all about being ridiculous.

There's plenty of "serious" stealth games like Splinter Cell. (shudders)

Erf! I hate Splinter Cell, it is one of thoses games where you must follow perfectly the only way to go through the level that the developpers decided for us. It's just... It's just too realistic! I love games with some kind of fantasy in it.

I don't play games to find something meant to look like the real world, when I play I some kind of want to escape from this reality. And with Splinter Cell I really don't.

I'm not sure I follow you. I played Pandora Tomorrow recently, and while the levels were linear I could still choose how to pass many parts (although I admit it might not be the same with the original Splinter Cell). MGS isn't definitely better at it.

Heck, I'm currently playing Unreal 2, it's far more linear Pandora Tomorrow.

I just played to the first and the last game of the series XD

The last one is suppossed not to be linear, you choose to act like a good or a bad person, but it hadn't strucked me for the little I played the game.

In short: Best Metroid Game Ever!

People said that for every new Metroid during the 6 month that followed the release of the game.

Just like every Final Fantasy game, every Zelda game, every Metal Gear Solid game and so on...

This is just called "buzz effect".

They don't say that about EVERY game. But most of the time, each Zelda game is better then the one before it in one way or another. That said, Sunshine wasnt the best mario game. Wind Waker wasnt the best Zelda, Echeos wasnt the best Metroid.

Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption are the best Zelda and Metroid games. They really are.

I think Wind Waker was pretty damn brilliant. For my money, it had the strongest story-based motivation of any of the preceding Zelda games - i.e. you did things to find out what happens next. Also, the fighting system - with notes playing on successive hits etc. - I found to be more involving than previous games.

I don't know for Corruption, but personnaly I think that Twilight Princess is the worst Zelda ever, apart of the CDi games XD

I was really disappointed by this game, I really prefered Wind Waker.
I don't know if it is like that across the ocean, but in Europe most fans considers Majora's Mask as the best Zelda game.

 :D Finally got it.

My god it is just amazing!

But it's way too easy with the Hypermode. I tried several times to beat the ice boss without it and Ialways  died before he lost half of his life. Then I tried with the Hypermode, he died within a minute -_-'
