Game unplayable - Can't go to new screens
« on: January 15, 2009, 05:06:50 am »
So I played the demo and it was amazing so I downloaded the full version and was super excited but my download kept getting interrupted because my Dad couldn't wait to make phone calls and it kicked my wireless off.  So when I finally get it downloaded and try to play, the configuration thing said it had an unexpected error and had to close.  So I double clicked again and it opened and the demo files were there, but when I try to swim to a new area the screen just goes black and the game shuts down.

Could this be because the configuration thing won't work and I've never been prompted to register or put in the product key or anything like that?  Anyone who has any ideas is gladly invited to share.  I really like the game and I'm sucked in and it makes me sad that I can't go any farther.

Sounds a lot like a corrupt download. Have you tried getting a clean, uninterrupted download of it? Perhaps let it download at night when nobody will want the phone?

Yeah, if the download isn't complete, you'll have errors like that all over the place. I tried to play an incomplete version of Aquaria when backing up my files, and black boxes with red "X"s appeared on a white background.

Yeah I uninstalled it and downloaded it all again without interruption and it still doesn't work.

I'm also playing on Windows XP on my laptop and I've never modified anything on it.  I checked for driver updates, video card updates, everything like that and didn't find anything.  I ran a ScanDisk before bed last night and that didn't fix it.  I also uninstalled and redownloaded it as soon as I got home today and it's still not working.  So I dunno what else to try...

That's very strange ... try installing the game to a folder on your desktop. When you do so, also try plugging the router directly into your computer for a better connection; finally, try running Aquaria as an administrator (r-click, properties, run as administrator). Good luck! I hope it is resolved quickly.  :)

Oh hey that's a good idea.  I tried the desktop thing but not running as admin, thanks!  If it doesn't work we can download it onto my mom's desktop Mac and hopefully it'll be fine.

I'm also having the same problem, it seems that everytime you move to a new screen there's a possibility that it will crash and stop responding.
Then there's the usual error message with the "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send" button.

By the way, what are you supposed to do with the registration key?

Keep the registration key - you'll need it for any major patches in the future. And at any cost, make sure that you keep the email address viable - one guy deleted his account and went through a huge amount of trouble to download the latest patch.
