Indie and inspiration for the win!
« on: June 05, 2007, 12:49:15 am »
I'm really amazed by the video, the soundtrack and general mood of the game are inspired to say the least. It has a touch of "Out of this world" to it, but I don't know exactly why.

I'm happy to see that there's still room for innovation and that indie gamers are taking advantage of this space. Hell, Eternal Daughter is one of my favourite platforms ever and it's not commercial, so what's the news in this thread?  :)

Good luck with the game's release, I'm keeping the fingers crossed for you guys and ordering my copy as soon as it surfaces.

Hey, thanks olifiers!

All the games we played as kids get some credit for inspiring us to make this game, although Metroid, Castlevania, and Zelda are some of the biggest influences.  In terms of graphics, I always found Castlevania: SOTN and Legend of Mana to be beautiful (although the latter is a bit lacking as an actual game).  I am a fan of Out of this World, and I'm sure some of that aesthetic made it across, too!

And I think anyone who's played Eternal Daughter will see some similarities in Aquaria.

But the biggest influence on us, of course, is the ocean. ;)

I hope similarities like the difficulty in ED don't transfer over. I like the game but,

...

I still can't beat that friggen' frog forest boss in the first level!!  :'(

I suck at ED. :'(

We're going to start rockin' some hardcore beta testing in a while, and we've already had Brandon (BMcC) play through the game a couple times and he gave us great feedback on what went smooth and what felt too hard.

Really? Then you shouldn't try to beat him and put the game aside...because related to most (hum...all) other bosses he is incredibly easy...

Damn o_O Maybe I should use a keyboard instead of my controller, cause I think I get a little lag with that...

Or maybe look up videos on it on youtube... I REALLY want to know what happens in the plot, the game just gets in the way, lol.  :D

God I love Legend of Mana, regardless of its crap combat system.

Hm, maybe I should add more to this post... How about... Pestering:
Hey Derek and Alec, you should let me be a beta tester ::). I've beta tested a few games before ('cluding Mr. Robot :D) an' this one guy told me that I contribute a lot of ideas to things, this one time.
If you'd be ever so kind, drop me a line.

The best RPG combat system ever comes from Star Ocean 2.  There is not another that is better.  ;)
