Jellyfish boss
« on: August 28, 2008, 07:44:59 pm »
I am having a huge amount of trouble killing it. Even with a Legendary Cake, arcane poultice, special cake, a sea cake, and 8 buttery sea loafs, I can't take long enough to get a shot at it before its minions kill me! Even if I eat them, they just keep on coming! The laser things make things a lot harder too. I am shaking with rage here, this is about my seventh try.
What am I doing wrong?

Hey keep calm Xila  :-* Spoiler:=
you just need loads and loads of fire power and try using the key shortcuts for each of Naija's forms. use beast=3+ sharksfin soup to ea tas many of the wee beasties as possible and then Energy=2  with  energy form shots to hurt big jelly, and just keep swimming around the same direction as the lasers. Use one of the soups to give her the speed you can best control also :D
Did you know that escape opens up her menu so you don't need to waste time clicking on the pad?

I beat it first go using this strategy :D

the technique I used to great effect was spider loaf and rounding up the spawn in a corral, then switching to beast form and plowing through em  >:D  having a healthy stock of everything silverflagon mentioned and that should get you through it!

Sawyer: You told her?

Spoiler:

Also note that the nucleus is surrounded by a purplish barrier, and that it's only vulnerable at the point where there's a hole in that barrier. Hitting it anywhere else won't hurt it.

I just want to say, for the record, that I lost count, but I believe that the next time I try will be #16.

EDIT: Also I am aware of the hotkeys, and of the barrier thing.

I don't have anything that can raise my firepower in energy form, and have no idea where to get it.

No wonder that you can't beat him then Xila, you really do need to look for more of the glowing plants so you will have the recipes for the energy form shots, and there are three seperate recipes that are very important or you will not be able to beat many of the bosses.

So I suggest that you take a rest for now and search for them. I'm sorry I can't tell you where to look as I don't know which ones you already have, and which bulbs will give you the recipes? :(

If you havn't found ANY spicy rolls yet I'd say you need to explore some more.  Aquaria is a game that rewards the well travelled (and those that open every "chest" they find).  You need only 2 things for this boss.  Energy form and Beast form.  Note you can ONLY damage him by hitting the weak point in his shell.  You might not have understood that above but there is a small opening where you can see there's a gap.

Start off in Energy form.  Swim in the same rotation the boss is using and just mash that attack button to hit his weak point.  Once he spews out enough little jellies, switch to beast form and just charge back and forth until they're MOSTLY gone (you can't really get rid of all of them) and start shooting again.  When he does those beams, just stick with beast form and charge whenever you can.

King Jelly isn't an easy boss, I managed to beat him first try but used up all my food.  But going back and beating him again using just those forms and excessive use of shortcut keys definitely made the job easier.

You're worrying me Glamador, now I am beginning to think that my beating him without using much stock was a fluke  :o and he is the next one for me to face up to :o

I must admit to liking them also Hiro, but because it's a bit late now I decided that beating the race and finding a few treasure would be enough for today lol

Epic boss battles are just one of the reasons I love games like Zelda and God of War so much as well.  If an adventure game doesn't have an epic boss fight then it's doing something wrong.

I have found that I do enjoy battles but only because I can handle the controls in Aquaria, all the different buttons for weapons in other games just leaves me stranded and wishing for a good left hand  >:(

That was twojacks, not me. He was referring to the lord of the rings scene in which Gimli offers to join the fellowship of the ring, saying Frodo will have "...my axe"  Sorry twojacks!  ;)
