Aquaria Lost Treasures questions
« on: August 21, 2008, 06:03:53 am »
I know, I probably seem like an idiot for posting this in the general section, but I figured some general questions about the interesting little fan project would be better suited here than in the mods section.

If this little project is well received by Alec and Derek would it be adopted into Aquaria Canon?

Is there a possibility of voice acting?

How can we download it when it's down, and how can we play it?
I feel really foolish for asking this but I'm sort of a newb when it comes to mods.

When might we expect a release date...tentative release date?

These are just some questions I felt like throwing out, mainly because Lost treasures is shaping up to be a really interesting piece of fan created Aquaria goodness.

If anyone else has questions about Lost treasures feel free to post them here as well, who knows we may receive some answers.
I'll keep asking for an Aquaria sequel until we get it, the sequel to the greatest Indie game of all times, and one of the greatest games period.

-Wow, I would have no idea. I haven't asked, nor was I even thinking about it. It would definitely be an honor considering that Alec and Derek are my inspiration for both art and coding (well at least scripting); but I definitely admire both their talents and their long hard work they have put into this project.

Is there a possibility of voice acting?

-Undecided yet, I've been definitely thinking about the possibility. Man I would definitely drool at the chance of having the original casting for Naija. :)
Sorry that's all I can say at the moment.

-It will be explained when it's released.

-I didn't expect to see this question this soon! LOL I'm flattered really, but there's still a lot of work to be done including story. It also depends on how much I can get help from Alec, so far he's been extremely helpful and getting feedback from him has been surprisingly pretty fast. I know he's pretty busy with getting a release out the door for mac, getting the music OST all set to go, and on top of the Indie Brawl game. Alec, you're too ambitious for your own good! :P [I'm just kidding by the way, it's definitely a great mind-set to be ambitious.]

These are just some questions I felt like throwing out, mainly because Lost treasures is shaping up to be a really interesting piece of fan created Aquaria goodness.

-Thank you so much for your interest, comments and questions! :) What can I say? I'm flattered. Honestly all thanks goes out to Alec Holowka, Derek Yu, Jenna Sharpe, and the Indie Development Scene for those who have inspired.

Nah, I'm just a lowly Extra Bit. :D I'm definitely having fun creating this. Creating more music that is to the theme of the areas that I want will be more of a challenge for me. Usually when I create music I don't start with something in mind, it just usually comes together and is it's own package.

Hey DM, maybe if your project gets far enough along, Alec and Derek would ask you to join the Bit Blot team.  I bet that would be really cool and if that happened I bet they could get Jenna to do the voice of Naija again for lost treasures.

We can all dream right?

Good luck with lost treasures, I can't wait for the release.

I just hope it has less of a gut wrenching ending than the original.  I will be totally crushed if the sequel doesn't end the Aquaria series happily, or at least with some resolution.

Definitely a nice dream at that. This by no means is a sequel, I'm going for more of a prequel in the time line, but who's to say how it will end. Guess you'll just have to find out once it's a completed project.

Lol. You can always ask questions in the mods section, just saying. :)

Yeah, I would have asked how long till release, but I know how annoying that kind of thing can be when you've answered "when its ready" for the 500th time. ;

This game needs more serious mods.  I'm eager to see how this turns out.  But would voice acting be quite the same w/o Jenna?

The same? of course not. Unless you mean enjoyable, then quite possibly. Trying to go for a younger Naija anyways. At current point I don't know if there will be voice acting or not. It would be one of the last things to come into play in the mod anyways if it were to make it in there.

I suspected that line might be misinterpretted.  What I was trying to say is that Jenna is part of what really makes Naija, well, Naija.  It wouldn't be Aquaria w/o her.

Well I wouldn't want to let your hopes down, but I really can't get them up at this point and say that voice acting is in the works. I'm just going to focus on everything else that needs to get done first. Story, Design, Concepts, Artwork and Music. It's already a big enough task as it is. But I did manage to nearly finish 1 of the big bosses tonight, took me a total of 12 hours of work so far; but it really is a nice piece. I managed to build a statue of another boss too, and completed the actual bosses head so far. Just trying to decide what I want the rest of the body to look like. Anyways, that boss that I'm nearly finished, only a few minor touch-ups, is 1140x760 pixels big, so for those of you that know the scale size of naija... you can really get a picture of how big that boss is. By the way. Imagine making a picture 1140 x 760 a pixel at a time! That's why it's taken this long to make it. That's a total of 866,400 pixel if it was completely filled in, which it's not obviously since there's transparency surrounding it. But I'll say a good portion of that is full. : /

Edit: The Big Boss mentioned in this message has been completed and tuned.

As Alec has said that all sprites and images have to be in N^2 size. Well I found this doesn't seem to be the case for tiles as I have used files with different dimensions and they have worked fine as long as they were even numbers for both height and width. However I'm thinking it's a different story for animated sprites. I'm still having issues with the animation of my own creatures at the moment. I've fiddled with the animator before just testing everything to see how everything worked. I followed the guide for making an animation and it worked perfectly when I was making a test fish swim. However right now I'm having issues with the animator. I've adjusted all graphics to N^2 format regardless of issues to simplify any possible problems. The Big Boss is now 2048x2048 in size, and his split up into bones and ready for animation as many of the other sprites I have created. I've come up with a few nice secret surprises for the mod as well. I'm going to make sure there are plenty of those and keep with the exploration and puzzles. Design has come a LOT further within the past week.

Keep up the good work: I finally might be able to finish Aquaria (the reason I didn't finish is because I didn't want the experience to end :'( )

Thanks! However today, I took the day off from modding to enjoy some time in Bahrain... yeah yeah, the heat is so unbearable, but I did manage to get a set of kick a__ headphones, and a copy of Soul Caliber IV for my PS3. :) Yesterday though I'll have you know, I finished a complete layout in the game for a whole themed region. Still a lot of work to go and I'm constantly changing things for the better all the time. :D

Just play it again Chibi, or save before you face the last boss and then go back and explore :D
