Hmmm.  I think i'd have to go for Avernum 2.  Excellent, old style game. It can be found, along with it's four counterparts, at  www.avernum.com .  Shareware, but well worth it.

Star Ocean 2.  I loves me that game.  I have played it enough to kill off two sets of disks, and am working on a third.

D&D lost its soul when WotC took over, and THACO was eliminated.  ;)

Yeah, I dunno about any of the history of stuff. I've just started doing it in the past two years. We've mistily do custom adventures, though right now we are doing 'the castle of' something or another. It's interesting.

Chrono Trigger, Morrowind (Oblivion can shit right off, I like Vvardenfell too much), Earthbound.

I've tried to like the FF series, I really have, but there always comes a point at which the tight, well-paced, dramatic plot I've been sucked into just falls to pieces and you spend hours wandering around until you happen accross a solution. FF6 and 7 are the worst offenders for this, I think.

Edit: the only pen'n'paper RPG I can be arsed with is Dogs In The Vineyard, because it's so very narratist and involves precisely zero faffing about looking stuff up on tables.
