Can't get home (spoilers)
« on: January 30, 2009, 12:11:08 am »
Hey, I have fish form and just got nature (four tries, 8 bowls of divine soup and turtle soup, kept going around at the end trying to figure out what to do and then got smart, went energy and used a volcano roll to blast everybody) but I can't get home now; defences low, just want to zoom to the turtle. Those little sea urchin type creatures are buggers to manipulate around even in fish form, and nature form seems to be no help either. I thought nature form got you past the thorny vines; guess not. I keep going around in circles, getting progressively weaker. When will I learn to use the teleporter blue balls? Beam me up, Scotty. Any advice geatly appreciated; feel like I'm seriously out of my league. I'm used to stuff like Chocolatier 2. Love this game, though; totally addicted and telling everyone I know.

Travel all the way down and to the left - I suspect you entered the Kelp Forest through the entrance close to the way to the Veil. There's a turtle in a fairly small map with three levels (the turtle is on the top one). Avoid the mauls (large boss-like creatures with yellow bulbous heads, but very slow) and grab on to the turtle. If you found his brother near your home first, you'll travel straight between the two. Unfortunately, the blue balls are only for accessing areas close by, not teleporting between two areas (like the turtle). The only exception to their short length is between Mother Nature (the boss where you learn how to and to open blue balls and red flowers) and the bottom of a nearby map. In the future, make a new save before you enter a difficult area (and before and after bosses, cutscenes, etc.), and don't save in an area out of which you won't be able to travel.

[EDIT] Black areas are for the benefit of people other than Sindhi.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game and enlightening others.  :) Welcome to the forums!

{[EDIT] Okay, he already knows.}
BTW; here's a picture of the Maul. Don't click if you want to find him on your own. Remember, though he looks intimidating, they're only really dangerous in pairs (and if you want to kill them). There's a chance of attracting two in the three-tiered map, so stick to either the top or the bottom when you pass through.

Good luck!  :)

Thanks, Chibi but I can't get down; all the currents go up and I can't get by the teardrop-shaped unkillable red, vblue, and green spiky things. I'ce run into the mauls quite often and since I don't get anything for killing them I just swim past. I know where the turtle is in the kelp forest but I can't get to him. The last and only save point I know of is the one by Mother Nature; I'm starting from there each time and keep ending up dead. How do I get down and to the left when all the currents go up?

You can lure the creature by singing - the rest is up to you.  :) Have you beaten Mother Nature yet? If so, right-click once at one of the blue bulbs. If not, ignore the last two sentences. Sorry - I completely forgot.

I finally found the way down. Yes, this was after I defeated Mother Nature by the skin of my teeth. Found the pearl, opened the passage, found the song plants. Found the turtle. Whew! Now my problem is my kitchen, which will no longer follow the recipes (like royal soup and magic soup; I keep getting sea loaves.) They're in the recipe book but I can't make them anymore. I'll try rebooting. Thanks everyone; I am Aquaria challenged.  I will try to use the blue bulbs now.

Are you sure you have the right ingredients? If so, that's a pretty serious glitch.

Yes, I have the right ingredients. They're in the recipe book but they wouldn't work right. I think it's a computer glitch, not a bug in the game. I went to the song cave for turtle meat and leaves and the recipes were working fine there and when I got back home no problems. I do have trouble collecting jelly oil; I only get it about one in twelve times. Is there a trick to killing poor defenseless jellies to get oil?

Once you get the beast form, you can eat the jellyfish for a massive health increase, but there's really no way to increase the frequency outside of killing more jellyfish.

Do note that there's a jelly right outside of Home. Kill it, pull the plant for leaves and berries, then pop in Home and back out. Repeat.

It's long and boring, but it's a safe way to get as much jelly oil as you need plus some other useful ingredients.

One way of preventing her making sea loaves is to make sure that you always have 8 of them in the larder then all that will happen is that you can't make anything.
But if using a fish oil and a fish steak makes a sealoaf then you need to post a bug thread in support for Alec..

Sigh! Yet more work for him :(

Thanks, everybody. I see there are places on the map where there are jellyfish that seem to give jelly oil more often; will need to do that. My biggest problem is forgetting where I got rubbery meat. Things just appear in my food bank and I don't know where I got them, like the special bulb.  Just need to log in more time I guess. You guys have been great; really appreciate the support and suggestions. Got the seed bag just now; need the beast I think mostly. Have a great one.

Special bulbs are rather hard to come by. If you dig around the forum enough you'll find out where you caan get them. Also, red bulbs are a limited quantity. Unless something has changed there are only a few red bulbs in the whole game. (These are different from berries, red berries are fairly common.)

For rubbery meat you can hunt the large octopus near Naija's home, the little round nautiluses (nautili?) will drop it occasionally. I think the little octopii that you can find in an area you haven't reached yet will drop it as well. Random pointless trivia: Rubbery meat is one of my personal favorite ingredients.

Rubbery meat indeed comes from those little nautilus, the red octopus and also the squids.

Special bulbs come from the big enemy sea horse further in the game, kelp forest.

I believe there's also a topic on here with Rate drops of items, you could check that out.

I got the special bulb from killing the sea dragon, I believe, after checking notes I've read. I think that's what you mean by the enemy seahorse. Finally figured out how to kill the red octosquid after spending numerous times in a squid ink fog waiting and swimming, coming out and spamming it again, back to inky fog..... and there are things in Mithala that give rubbery meat; made a run and returned home with 8 tough cakes and 8 more rubbery meats. Ahem. Also found I can now kill the big grey fish that eats Naija's leaf rewards (two energy upgrades helped); now he shrinks to a teeny blip and winks out of sight. Thanks for all the help!

That big fish is a pain in the B### but one way that makes it even easier killing him is to latch Naija to him and then you can pump loads of shot into him without killing other creatures until you are ready to. :)
