Support / Re: Flickering (linux)

Maybe getting a newer version of wine and making sure compiz is not running.  I had some flickering problems because of  "Advanced visual effect" which are created by compiz.

Modding / Re: Naija sprites

Actually, you can make a node which will replace naija's head.  That's what I did with my pirate mod.

However, I don't know any way to replace all head animation textures (blinking, etc) with those from a skin.

I don't think Aquaria needs more hints (well, except maybe for Li, which you can easily bypass even when you know where to look), but being able to add our own notes to the map would have been a good idea, as being able to replay what Naija say.  After all, it sucks a bit having to restart the game because you where not attentive to what Naija said.

Not that this have to change in Aquaria, but thinking about it in your next games would be nice.  A logbook where the player can write in-game would probably be enough of a memory helper for a lot of players (well, It would have helped me).

Here is my pirate naija.  Some details are maybe hard to see when not zoomed, she does not blink and the eyepatch switch sides.  I will probably make multiple heads and a node to make her blink and make the eyepatch change side someday, but I'm quite busy right now.  So here is the skin for naija as it is right now, use it in any way you want  ;) .

All comments are welcome, constructive criticism included.

Btw, nice skin Alphasoldier, but a helmet would be really nice (edit: oops, I forgot zero-suit has no helmet  :P).  If you want to remove the cape and change the head, just use the node in my mod (replacing my textures by yours in node_capehead.lua of course)

I was wondering where I should host my mod files and images.

I may seem stupid, but I'm quite new to posting files  on forums :-[

General / Re: List your favorite music tracks

My favorite is Lost to the waves when I listen to the music in the jukebox mode, but somehow, FallenBreed is the one I prefer while playing through the game.  When I play FallenBreed with the jukebox, it just seem ok, but when I hear it in the main game, it just fits perfectly with the dialogs and the part of the body where it plays.  Just hearing the music at the start of this last section was enough to make me think "Oh shit, this part will be hard".

I once had two Li in Li's cave and made a topic on it, but I was not able to reproduce the bug.

Well, out of curiosity, how would you guys suggest handling a situation like this OP?

I don't think my approach has been terribly effective, but I did greatly enjoy it.

I'm not really sure what Derek would have done, probably something more chill.

Insulting the guy was what most people would have done, and I don't think many people here have a problem with this.  This is the part about the lack of people supporting the game which is more annoying to us since (I hope so) most of the people posting here have bought the game.  It is not that bad, but it can piss off people which take things too personal.  But you're right to be pissed off, I can't understand why people would pirate an indie game, but I can believe it.  But this thread... wow, I just can't believe this guy.  He is the embodiement of the word "loser".

I think, maybe for the next game (and I really hope you will earn enough to make one), you should restrict some sections of the forums, let's say, the strategy, mod and support sections, to people who have bought the game (giving unique forum usernames and passwords with the game, maybe...).  At least this way pirates would not be getting support from you and from the owners of legitimate copies.  It does not help selling, but at least it could help your mood knowing your helping only people who really appreciate what you do.

Gameplay / Re: Thoughts on Li (Spoilers)

I've been wondering if Li's a silent character because:

a) He speaks a completely different language so he doesn't bother trying to communicate with words.
b) He just doesn't like talking
c) He talks, but it's just not shown.

d) He can't speak underwater, he is a human after all.

Gameplay / Re: Aquaria Boss Strategies

For the spirit priests, I used beast form and I lured them in the current on the left.  While in the tunnel, you just dash back and forth through them with the beast form until there is only one left.  Then, you finish the last one with the energy form.  Also, while in the tunnel, they have trouble shooting you since their blasts hit the walls before reaching you.

Mmm... I think you can call external apps within lua scripts, but I am not sure.  Maybe I am not understanding something correctly, but I think that, if it is possible to call external c++ libraries within lua, it would be also possible to create, lets say, a node calling a lua script within a mod that calls external code which manage to share parameters between two or more users in real time for the same mod.

Again, maybe I'm totally wrong and did not understand the possibilities of lua in this context.

Support / Bugs in the animation editor (solved)
« on: December 23, 2007, 09:55:38 pm »
I found this bug in the editor: If a bone of the current entity is selected when loading a new entity from the animation, the game often crashes.

I also found an oddity: when you use the same graphics for an entity and for skinning naija, the entity is 2x bigger.  I don't know if it is intended, but it can be quite confusing, especially when you need to add new parts to naija, and so need to create her as a separate entity.

But he seemed to be able to remove the cape (make it invisible?) and make the head show up properly.

Unless he just drew those sprites and put them together without the game?

Actually, I only tested it as a new entity.  As for the image in my post, I just made it outside the game to see how it would look, but I made the corresponding entity in the game.  Since I have not modified all head frames, I just previewed it as an entity rather than skinning Naija.
I still have a lot of work to do to use it as a form or costume for Naija.

edit:  I tried to make it a skin and now see the problem with the head not appearing, the cape not being transparent and some problem with relative position (which one over which others)  of body parts.

I think the wispy thing he is talking about is the thing you have to beat to gain energy form
