Title: What are you doing for Halloween
Post by: silverflagon on October 11, 2008, 07:26:57 pm
If you are even interested in it?
I'm working on this at the moment using Poser and Photoshop, so do any of you dress up or create Halloween stuff yourselves?

That's pretty creepy! Nice work though! No plans since I'll still be on deployment. I won't be returning till Nov, 4th, possibly the 3rd.

Thank you DM, shame about the deployment though but some one has to do it so others can get home, perhaps it will be your turn next year? Do they do anything on board ship at all?

I think that I will use a Poser model to design your Naija costumes around, I did start one but since then I have been rather busy with other work like this one that need finishing before the end of the month.

cool :)

No, nothing happens on Halloween for deployment. But yes, next year I'll be living in Kauai, HI for 3 years shore duty. :) I am very much looking forward to it.

That's good, it's hard if you miss all the good things every year.

I'm going to dress up as something, but I haven't decided what yet. :)

One of the big bosses from Aquaria perhaps Alec, the gollem  would be great for that :D

I always want to dress up, but it's not like I can trick-or-treat when I'm twenty and I don't exactly get invited to halloween parties (not friends or aquaintences to speak of).  What's more there are no school-sponsored events I know of when I can dress up in costume.  'Twould be nice if somebody would advertise IMPORTANT events around this stupid campus.  But NOOOO it's always football this and basketball that.  I know we won national championships but dammit I CARE MORE ABOUT DRESS UP!....wow that reads a little gay now I think on it.  Oh well, what's typed is typed I DON'T USE BACKSPACE EITHER!

That might explain the pink avatar you use. :P lol

Well, you know what they say:

REAL MEN WEAR PINK

And you know what THEY say:

THAT'S AN EXCUSE FOR GAY MEN.

I'm not sure whose side of the argument this supports:

We should do a dress up-party for poor Glamador.
Everyone dresses up, makes a photo and put it in the special Dress up-Thread. ;) Sounds good? :D

What am I going to dress up as, a sailor?? I am that every day. :P Guess it's a no go for me.
Xiagan, you should dress up as a pirate, specially with all the pirate-ie talk you have made in the past in the forums. :D

I see no excuse for having your own dressing up party and why not make it an event for raising funds for your college's favourite charity while your doing that Glamador, then no one can make fun of you :D

Hey that's from one of my favourite Star Trek films Robert, I do so love that part on the bus. It's far fetched I know but who cares it's a fun movie :D

Men where pink shirts, in fact more big business men wear pink shirts than you would realise, perhaps because in their situation no one would dare say anything to them?
Title: Re: What are you doing for Halloween

I believe the correct term is Piratical, my dear Danger Mouse. (As in the children's book The Great Piratical Rumbustification illustrated by Quentin Blake (from the Roald Dahl books)

Sorry for the snipe, I couldn't help it.  ;)

{EDIT}
Men where pink shirts, in fact more big business men wear pink shirts than you would realise, perhaps because in their situation no one would dare say anything to them?

My point exactly. Thanks, Silverflagon!

How did I know that was a Dahl book before I even read what you typed saying it was.  His books always have such interesting titles.  They sound like they could be real, but it's that kind of sound that makes you do a double take in a "that's not really a word is it?" kind of way.
Title: Re: What are you doing for Halloween
Post by: Danger Mouse on October 14, 2008, 12:08:10 pm
Chibi: Let me correct you, there is no such word for what I was describing, as in TALKING like a pirate.

The word you are talking is defined in dictionaries as an adjective to describe the act of piracy. If you want the exact definition of the word you were trying to correct me with, here it is:

Adj.   1.   piratical - characteristic of pirates; "piratical attackers"
                2.   piratical - characteristic of piracy; "piratical editions of my book"

resource: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/piratical

You can find the same definition at all the major online dictionaries, including websters.

So, :P

I was simply pulling your leg off and replacing with a peg leg, ARRRR!  :P XD

Here's a picture of the cover, if you're curious:

As you can see, it's not by Roald Dahl. Quentin Blake's artwork has grown to symbolize Roald Dahl more than his writing (at least for me).

Ah I see, not a Roald Dahl book at all...rhymes.  Still, I wans't only referring to piratical but rumbustification as well.  And I never outright said the word was fictional anyhow, I just said it's the kind of word that makes you do a double take.

Not important, the word is what are you doing for Halloween and do you celebrate it in some way different or not at all? ;) ;D

Hey Silv, loosen up. All topics stray off topic: it's part of growing up.  ;)

Anyway, here's the first costume I chose for myself (when I was only a toddler).

It's not exactly like mine, but it has the same accessories: the most unique part of my costume was a tin-foil covered bicycle helmet. I remember every detail of my old-old-old school; those were the good-old days.  ;D

Note; the wink and smile after my post chibi ;) lol Neat costume by the way :D so if you were a toddler then how old are you now, that photo doesn't look too old? ;D

That's not me: I'm not that young, and not that naive  ;) It's just similar to mine.
I'm in high-school, not kindergarten  ;D XD

I guessed that you wasn't that young but I did think that was you and it looks as if it was taken in the last 10 years, so I just wondered. High school huh? So what age range is that, bear in mind that I am from the UK, so I guess that you might be 17 or there abouts?

Well I hope that you don't wait as long as myson did, he's just passed his driving test and got a car, and he is 34, but he did prefer a motorbike and still does really but bad weather and bikes don't go hand in hand. Today was the first time that he's been to work in bad weather and got home dry. :o

Alec and I are going to a costume wedding social (a fundraising social event, for those of you who don't live in Manitoba, aka all of you), but we haven't thought of any clever costumes yet. Ideas??

What about some noble baroque dresses and this masks that only cover the upper half of your face? Like the costumes you see in movies which have sequences about venician carnival.

Of course, it'd be a bit expensive or hard to get, but it certainly sticks out of the masses of Witches, Cowboys, Super Marios and Anime-Cosplayers. :)

Aw but those costumes are the most fun to make and wear!

I always did love old pomp and posterity outfits though.  Hey!  I could do Alucard! (Anyone bearing that name has a cool outfit, it's a fact)
