This is a very broad topic, so I'll define some rules or 1:
First person to post posters choose one of the three topics, and list the best ones he (or she knows) (EDITED)
Try to be as comprehensive as possible
HAVE FUN
Example: from Glamador, binding a rock and shooting Nature Form briars/cactuses at it to make a thorny flail of death.
Example: from Chibi (me), luring the Energy Boss as far as possible then triggering the wall of flame (it kills him with one shot)
BEST EXAMPLE I KNOW: in the area of the Open Waters next to the Arnassi Ruins and Mithalas Cathedral, there is a friendly creature (is it the Ezzit?) who follows you around: if you stand in front of the current at the top, he will push you past the current and you can get sun form without beast form (a really hard goal)
Enjoy!
EDIT: topic is a little optimistic, it's become more of an open talk section. Sorry if you're looking for major clues, but there are still some neat tips within. ;)
-
Well, this one's not really a trick so much as a little known function of energy form.
You may have noticed that if you leap off a wall or do a little spin as you end a dash and fire off a charged energy form shot you will shoot 4 instead of 3. Well if you dash off a wall AND do a little spin at the end you shoot out 6 shots. It's extremely useful for harder enemies.
P.S. what wall and how do you set a fire underwater?
-
A minor tip with the Energy Temple boss: You don't have to push him backwards to get the pearl. Just swim up to him and bind right away. You'll snatch the pearl right out from under his paws.
-
Yes Chibi how the heck did you set a wall afire? :o
I don't have any special tricks but if someone could come up with a really easy way to beat SS boss then I will be eternally grateful. I normally remember the tunes by the moves not the colours but I get no chance to do that with this boss and after the 6th note I forget how to start the sequence ::)
-
Sorry for not being clear, I had just woken up :). It's the ray of fire that appears between two points when you shoot the pearl; but setting a wall on fire would be a neat idea for a mod ;) Dangermouse?
"edit" I removed a post below and added it here
Just came up with a new idea, saw it in the Aquaria Final Teaser, but tried it and it didn't work: I saw that in the Fish Cave, when leading the fish, Naija could move and sing at the same time. I tried it with different combinations of key and mouse, but no cigar.
-
I grabbed this from another topic: if you eat all the fish in one area, then go back to that same area and "eat" in the beast form, you'll eat invisible fish. Free health, anyone? :)
A small one concerning beast form, you can still do spin shots (spinning to fire more than one shot), but it goes up 1,2,3, instead of 1,3,4,6,

You just hold your curser on the note and drag, she will move in that direction, you can do the same when Naija and Li are in an hug. That last comes in useful if they are in a clinch over a save crystal, because you don't want to right click on them just there or you end up in save mode again! lol

Thanks Silverflagon! I love it when a topic gains posts: it's like having grandchildren. (Not that I would know) :)

Nor would I Chibi worse luck, I would love to have some grandchildren to shock and embarrase lol
-
To add another entry (and to wrench this topic back on track ;)):
This one was a very good observation by you, Silverflagon: If you eat a squid, gain its blinding ammo, and shoot at other squids (idk if this applies to other animals) they become blinded and shoot at their allies.
-
Thank you chibi, I haven't had chance to retest it yet but if anyone else can I would love to know if it worked for them also? I'm fighting the Golem boss at the moment :D
-
Is that the boss who gives you the dual form? I've heard that The Golem is in a boiler room, and the dual form seems too sleek for stone and brass
Edit: + a minor one: before you gain the energy form and if you don't want to lug a rock around: use shield form and stay really close to a shooting enemy. His own shots then hurt him. (NOTE: this doesn't apply for bosses (I tried it on the energy god for 30 minutes before realizing that pearl+empty statue+charged shot = boss ouchies :)
-
No the golem comes before you go to the area that gives you dual form. Haven't you got there yet chibi? I've found that he is best fought with mostly beast form. spoiler just use a soup that gives you plenty of speed and swallow those wierd little pink things and then spit them out at the woman, and convert to energy form to shoot him when he glows red.

I haven't played aquaria ever since I played it when I was supposed to be doing my homework and ... i was caught.

Oops, I can't say anything against because I always forgot my homework ::) lol

I grabbed a puffer fish by accident today and had great fun swimming around gathering the foods that were dropping as I swam through the shoals :D I have also tried the squid ink and it does kill anything it touches so far, I haven't tried it on a boss yet though :D Has anyone else tried it yet?
-
I just had a crazy thought: if you made a mod with all the bosses in it and used the squid-trick... It would be
RAD {EDIT} Reduced the size, so that it wouldn't be too much of a copy off of Alec's "RAD"
It would be the ultimate answer to the 'Who would win?" question! ;D ;D ;D
-
I say Nautilus Prime would or Frog Prime would win.

I say Nautilus Prime would or Frog Prime would win.
Maybe? But the ink doesn't last very long, unless going back and eating another squid will double it. Does anyone know if eating more of the shooting enemies doubles the length of time you have the shots?
-
I thought so, but if not, it is easy to try, because you can easily count the shots.
-
I must do that next time I play the game, I don't know if I will tonight though?
-
Yes eating the same enemy more than once lengthens the number of shots. Each enemy you eat gives you a set number of shots, I know because I ate about 100 of those jumping guys in Mithala (I didn't know about that feature of beast form at first, I just ate everything in sight) and I had tons of those blue bouncing shots.

That's great Glamador :D because when I open the game to play it later today I am going to eat a dozen of those squids and those spinning starfish and go fight and see how I get on in the gauntlet :D But I will be prepared if it doesn't work against all those mutated forms :o

Be carreful: Afaik the amount of shots you have from other beings gets resetted if you save and quit the game. I'm quite sure Alec said, that he'll fix this in 1.1, but atm it's very annoying if you collect a huge amount of shots for the next time you play. ;)

I'm used to this effect now Xiagan but thanks for the warning :D I have been stock piling food stuffs ready for this next part so eating squids etc will just be the last part before setting of down there :D
-
I had a similarly annoying experience when I had hunted down all of the life-giving tadpoles in the Kelp Forest, then found that to get to the only save point available, I had to turn into fish form and abandon my friends. :( ;) I realized later that I had been using the tadpoles as a crutch way too often: now I am free! wait a sec... ARRGHH, help! Weak little enemy attacking!

you are correct sir! I recollect testing that exact issue out, seeing if my frog balls and squid ink were still in stock after a reboot of the game and beasty had a clean slate. that would be a nice fix for sure, if the ammo session was saved across game plays but I've worked around it and basically don't utilize it that much, probably because I never know if I'm full or empty. beast is still my #1 way of getting around and always get health through fishies, just not so much for combat, more like an armored taxi.
-
That is annoying but beast forms shots are not very precise any way so I have never relied on them, but I did like the idea of using that annoying little squids ink against her enemies, BUT WARNING! I have found that it only works against SOME of her enemies.... I just knew that I was onto too much of a good thing lol

BTW, I just noticed a really funny glitch with the Beast Form. If you hold down the R key (for revolve) and whatever button you use to swim (w or the left mouse button), Naija spins head over heels while staying completely straight: her feet and head move around over an invisible pin in her torso. It's hilarious to watch: I'll try to get a video in an edit of this post ... stay tuned!
-
Yea I've done that countless times. Easy to repeatedly perform but nothing more than a funny visual effect. I tried to see if there was any benefit and I can't find any.
-
I haven't found any benefit save that of the childish pleasure I gain and how amazing it looks in slow motion (when you first enter the open air in the Veil) To fully enjoy Aquaria, you have to indulge the tattered remnants of your childhood, relax, and feel free to spend 3 hours playing around with stunts (*whistles innocently*) :D

I haven't tried that but I very seldom use the keys, I prefer the mouse except when trying to get in the right position for killing those jack-in-the-boxes/weeds ;D
-
Also, that maneuver is not exclusive to beast form. You can do it in any form you like it's just a matter of holding R to spin and moving with the mouse.
-
While I was messing around with changing forms in midair, I found yet another glitch. If you boost out of the water in any form besides dual form, change to Dual Form, then change back in midair, Li is stuck hovering above the water. He only stays there if you don't re-enter the water. It's the only way to get him to breathe air again (that I know of). ;)
Good luck, Glitch/Bug/Insert noun here Finders!

I tried this move last night and she tucks in for me? What's wrong do I have the only version that is free of the more normal glitches?
-
Nah, it's kind of tricky. Just mess around with different orders of keystrokes and mouse movements. Move then hold R, hold R then move, start spinning with the mouse then hold R then move, that sort of thing. You'll notice it for sure when it happens.
As for me...I need to try that glitch to get Li above the water!

I will give it a go next time I play it through then, thanks for the explaination Glamador :)

Just a piece of news...
FINISHED AQUARIA WOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Alec, Derek, Jenna, you guys have made the best game I've every played. It's just sad it's over (wipes tear)
Thank you.
p.s. This picture I got off of Google before I even knew who you (Derek) or Aquaria was ::)

I can't tell, is the cat giant or the boat small? I suppose it's a matter of perspective really...
-
Congratulations Chibi, now when are you going to go through it again? lol I am already thinking of playing it a third time ::) ;D
-
I'm going to wait until version 1.1 comes, then play it a second time. Afterwards, I might try to beat all the mods (after I fix the strange problem I have with the mods :( ) I can't wait! ;)
-
I think that is what I will wait for also.... Unless I get bored waiting lol
