tree with a woman's face

I am stuck again in some cave with no exit and a sort of guardian in a tree  - I have tried singing the same notes as her, but i can't seem to get out of there. Any hints??

You have to shoot her in the face after singing the same notes. :)

It's interesting how gameplay tropes lead our behavior in games, frequently.  Most players know to shoot what's in the room just because they're closed in with it; it must be a boss, it must be evil, it must be killed, on the basis of context rather than any objective knowledge.

Faced with something that isn't overtly trying to attack HIM, it's neat to see someone react with "what do I do"? instead of immediately blasting away.

I didn't think on blasting the first time too... I thought singing and dodging/destroying the worm and the seeds was enough...

Well, I personally have a habit of shooting anything that moves...and most of the things that don't.  My roomate last year used to get annoyed by it all the time when he watched me play games.  Then this one time I decided to shoot those flamethrowers in the ceiling in Magmoor Caverns in Metroid Prime with the Ice Beam only to realize they freeze.  That gave me an excuse to keep shooting inanimate objects free of complaints.  I just say "Hey!  It worked on the flamethrowers!" and I get to shoot anything I want!  But I digress.  My habitual destruction led me to switch to energy form during any pause and shoot shoot shoot.  So I inevitably shot at her out of habit.

This...game...ROCKS!

It took me an hour to beat this boss and I wasn't shooting at her face at all.  I was dodging the flying orange pineapples and then running from the spiky thornwoms because they only chase you for a specified amount of time.  I figured the goal here was to just stay alive during all this dodging and running business.  But I do know the sequence of this boss if anyone is interested now.  First there are 4 flying pineapples, then 1 spiky thronworm which cycles for about 30 minutes. Then there are 6 flying pineapples, 2 spiky thornworms which cycles for about 20 minutes.  Then there are 8 flying pineapples, 3 spiky thronworms which cycle like that for about 8 minutes.  All I did during all this was dodge the orange flying pineapples and run from the spiky thornworms.  The ony damage I did was the firing that went on after I repeated her note.  You would think after all this it would end but then the final sequence is 3 HUGE swirling orange pineapples, 2 spiky thornworms and some kind of lightning bolt thing that scrolls the top of the screen.  Nothing seemed to work here, so just staying alive and running for your life worked for me.
