I guess I didn't find anything special about not seeing the minimap, as I've had to memorise the main map due to minimap going black before. I guess I'll be making my way towards the abyss now

By the way, does the rukh(?) bird always drop rukh eggs, or is that random as well?

You have to shoot the crap out of the birds to get them to drop eggs. Jump relatively near it, then just aim up and hammer right click in energy form.
