New Naija Skin! "Always Regular Naija"
« on: February 02, 2011, 02:59:41 am »
Hello Aquaria Fanbase!  After years of loving Aquaria quietly to myself I have decided to give back to the community!  As much as I love Aquaria, one problem I had was that you spend such a small amount of time using the best looking Naija.  Obviously they are all really well designed and look cool, but none of them are quite as attractive as Naija.  That's why I created this reskin.

Basically what it does is takes the armor/clothing aspects of each form change and applies it to good old normal Naija.  For an example, check out my avatar on the Super Meat Boy forums (it wouldn't upload here for whatever reason) here

I also took the liberty of removing all helmets from the costumes and replacing them, either with or without tiara depending on what I thought looked better.

I would also like to send a big fat thank you in the direction of Alphasoldier.
Not only did he give me permission to use his Zero Suit Naija (Duel Form Li), but he also helped me figure out how to upload and share.  Also his nude mods were a big help with getting the armor on to regular Naija so lots of thanks for that too.

Anyways, that's enough talking, here's the download link!

Feedback is always appreciated  :D

Original message:
Hey, I created a pretty simple Naija texture theme where she basically stays as regular Naija throughout the entire game and only changes the clothes she wears when switching forms.  I'm not a pixel artist, so its nothing fancy, but I'd like to share it with the world and whatnot, but I've never really done anything like it before.  Any recommendations for a good file hosting site?  t affects all the form changes except for Duel Form Li (Since I used a slightly modified Zero Suit Naija texture without permission and won't be uploading it with the rest).  It also removes any helmet aspect from the costumes.  The only costume this does not alter is the dark Naija costume since it would also make all the enemies look like regular Naija (its actually pretty funny but doesn't really have a place in my hack.)

Once I get help uploading I'll provide the link in this topic.

Thanks.

You have permission to use the Zero Suit in whatever artistic way, as long as ya say it ain't yours. ^^

Second to that, for a good hosting site, try using Dropbox. It's a program you can optionally download, anything you put in that folder automatically is updated to the server. You can make public folders where you put stuff other people can download, a shared folder which you can share between a person (maybe multiple? Can't remember) and of course a private folder.
All of this is also possibly through the web browser. Just look at the video. ^^

Oh and the above is a referral link, it'll give you and me both a 250mb space bonus, if you don't do that, feel free to just go to Dropbox.com.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Top profile link is broken, it'd take you to your own profile.

The mix'n'matching you did looks pretty neat, I took a quick look in my test level. =D

You're talking about the costume mod, yes?  That's where I tested them out too.  Its absurd how helpful everything you made was to me.  I used the Zero Suit for a costume, the nude mod for when armor/clothes didn't overlap right, and the costume mod for testing.  In other words much thanks  :)

I've wanted something like this for a while! I've always thought that while the other forms are cool, Naija in her original form just looks the best, and if I had anything that annoyed me about the game, it'd be that it wasn't really viable to just stay in original form, as it was pretty defenseless and Energy form was much better at fending off enemies and Beast form was faster.

I asked Alpha about the possibility of making this type of mod before, but he told me it wouldn't really be possible because of one issue - that being that the other forms have less animations and facial expressions than classic Naija, so if you switched out the graphics, you'd end up with a Naija that's less expressive and more static than normally - have you found a way around that? If so, how did you manage it?

Thanks!   That's exactly why I made this.  I was pretty proud of how it turned out so I decided to share it with the world (read as the 12 people who still use this forum :().

Its true that she's less expressive, but think about it: its no different than the default skins.  Normal Naija still has all her original expressions, but Energy form still only has two (regular and hurt).  The only one I had trouble with was Beast, since it has 3 expressions (normal, hurt, and eating).  Obviously Naija has no eating face, so I just opted to replace eat with sing.  Since the game is rarely zoomed in all the way it looks fine.
