The Humble Indie Bundle experiment
« on: May 14, 2010, 05:15:26 pm »
Hi Alec,
I read on the Home page of the Humble Bundle ( http://www.wolfire.com/humble ) that Aquaria's source code (as long as the other games' but World of Goo) will be released as open.
Is that true?
Aquaria will be released as freeware?
Could you please enlighten?

I believe it's like this:
Source code does not include art assets and the like, so if you don't already have the game, you can't compile a working version of it.

You are correct, sir :)

A little bit.
But I can wait. I've got 5 games to finish after all (one of them being aquaria). :)

I finished World of Goo already, and I'm an eighth of the way through OCDing everything. ^.^

I absolutely fail at Gish. So I gave up on that.
The bunny game looks really violent and I don't like overly violent things. :(
As for Penumbra... it looks scary. >_<

So Aquaria is really all I have left to play. And the Creator is making me want to give up. xD

Lugaru seemed like a quick game to me, took me a day to beat. WoG was  fun and took longer to beat. my only current problem is transfering all of my files for all of my games from my linux OS to Windows 7. :( I can't see the partitions :(
Gish's multiplayer is fun.
Penumbra, hmmm... I didn't get far at all in this one.
Aquaria is the best game from the pack IMO.
Linux to play Aquaria and for power, Windows for my dev stuff, Chromium for school surfing. I can't browse the grade system >:D. Join me on the bit-blot IRC channel.

There's also Samorost 2. ;)
The only one I finished is Lugaru, but that's because I already owned it back when I had more time. (and then came the free portal release on steam, which worked perfectly under Ubuntu, so I played that instead of the HIB games. ^^')
[I also cheated to finish Lugaru once I got stuck on the first level with wolves.]

I apparently suck hard at fighting games. Lugaru kicked my butt repeatedly in like... the fourth level. Gish was fun for a little bit, but then they got clever with swinging platforms, and since platforming's not really my thing, I moved along. Penumbra was... decently atmospherically creepy, but I like a little less puzzle and a little more survival in my survival/horror (Why oh why won't someone remake System Shock?). Samorost is a good point/click game, but I'd long since beaten it. Same with World of Goo.

You need time to master jumping in Gish. Once you got that, it is great fun. :)
I wonder if I'm still able to...haven't played it since back from the time it was released.

Ah, Gish... Good times :)

A few days ago I went to my friend's house and we downloaded a vs map and played it. Its point was that the first player to throw a ball and hit the button (pretty much basketball), made the floor under the other player open and kill him.

Oh, it's so buggy :)
