Aquaria Music Tabs or Sheets!
« on: April 21, 2009, 07:51:58 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm searching for notes of the soundtrack to play on my instruments.
Does anyone have a clue where to get some sheets or is here someone who has the skill to transcript 1 or 2 songs???

That would be absolutely awesome - and I guess there is a big request!

:)

The music currently doesn't exist on sheets (unless someone has done it since this was last discussed). Alec plays all his music from memory, and I'm not sure he's up to transcribing it.... that takes a lot of time and he does play the songs slightly different each time (every time I hear them anyhow).

That being said, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if someone transcribed the soundtrack, but given how long this has been discussed for, I'm not sure there is anyone here who can or will do it?  :)

I guess the mastermind behind this is one of the developers, Alec. He has composed the music, and if I remember correctly his bro made some music too (?). Somehow I'm not surprised if he says he doesn't have notes writed down (Pajama Jam #1 - Aquaria... http://infiniteammo.ca/blog/pajama-jam-1-aquaria/) after I saw this  :) He truly can play familiar melodies in different ways.

-- oh there was a reply while I wrote. Soundtrack would definitely be wonderful, but there's too much work to produce it, did you mean that, Nava?

No. I was responding to LeeFX's request for someone to independently transcribe the existing songs from the game into sheet music, saying that Alec would not be opposed to it but that it's been proposed numerous times and still hasn't happened, so I'm not sure if there is anyone able and willing around here.

Regarding the actual physical soundtrack, Alec looked into a CD company but has not yet determined whether the cost of making X amount of discs would be worthwhile; he stands to lose a fair bit of money on it if not enough people are willing to purchase, since things like that are usually ordered in large quantities. It's not a work priority at the moment, but I know that it is something he really wants try to get done... his music and the fans who appreciate it mean a lot to him  :)

I know someone who is very good at this kind of thing. That being said, they would not do it for free.

Those pre-orders need to be constructed as actual contracts, and not as a pool of some sort, otherwise they never work! Many people will end up claiming they will buy it and then back off once the product is finally there.

Most probably those who bought the game will be less inclined to buy the soundtrack.  After all, they can simply import the ogg files in your music player, and technically, they already bought it by buying the game.
So to make it profitable, he will need to sell to people who didn't, and won't, buy the game. Probably a none gaming public. And he'll need to marked it to those people.

I don't know, but I imagine self publishing music is even more difficult than self publishing games. Especially in the post-Napster age.

Well, I guess you are plain wrong there. All the logics of merchandising and fandom contradict you there. Besides, there would be bonus tracks, slightly altered versions and a lovely booklet.

This is true. I have heard one of the new (though still unfinished) songs and it is spectacular. I hope Alec finds that it would be financially viable to move forward with this project some day, because it would be very exciting to have a collection of his music available for purchase on disc. I'd buy it  :D

This thread entered a little bit off-trails from its original subject, but... ain't complaining when the subject is OST ;)

Topic:
I have only seen one short theme - "note" for guitar here, but I guess it would be relatively easy for talented person to write down the notes by listening and writing 'em down... only problem is, that talented person is a ... quite rare sight.

if someone transcribed the soundtrack
my bad, this is what you meant, Nava. I made a wrong conclusion.

Off topic:
For soundtrack... [speculation warning] I guess one theory could be e-mailing customers (cheap way and I guess if retailer can help... but I guess there are problems with the current one...) and ask if they are interested... cut certain % off from that "I'm interested/certain to buy" amount (not ordering anyway) + count hardcores and just estimate suitable amount for OST... But so far that is, sadly, pure work without compensation. How about producer, remainders, price and commissions?

Briefly, lots of financial things to consider for developer who has more projects and more expenditure due them. So as a commoner I can imagine it's not too easy to produce OST, even if you have will to do it.

I think the OST would be in a physical form, not in digital. I really delighted when the developers talked about illustration booklet and extra piano tracks...

(Just found out this topic for OST discussion, which is active... missed /didnt remember this... http://www.bit-blot.com/forum/index.php?topic=187.15)

I'll have to ask. This would be the entire soundtrack, right?

At first I thought that people wanted every single song written out...which would be quite a project.  You would like sheet music for which 2 songs? I can see if a friend of mine could help you out...but he's always looking for income, you know how that goes? Ehh I could give it a shot!

I guess people are still looking for free answer to their question, it's natural to ask if there already exists.  I'm personally not interested for sheets or notes, as I'm too old to play any instrument, and I said what sheets/notes I have spotted here. I just love to listen music. Maybe that's why I became inspired to talk about OST again. So if you can spare some constructive ideas for that (check that official topic for previous suggestions and ideas and continue there), you can share them with us - unless' your friend want to do it.

It might be that the developers already have a clear vision how to proceed, though.
