Battlefield Heroes
« on: April 05, 2009, 09:18:06 pm »
Battlefield Heroes is a free third-person cartoon shooter by DICE, and it has to be the funniest 3D game I've played in months. Unfortunately, it's still in the Beta stage, so you'll need to apply for a key to play. CLICK.

    * Third person camera so your Hero is centre-stage!
    * Create your own unique war Hero with extensive character customisation system
    * MMO-like special abilities add strategic depth to combat

I haven't gotten around to signing up for the beta but I must admit that I was intrigued after seeing early screenshots of the game. This is probably because I have a week spot for cartoon style graphics. How is the game funny though? Does is it have the TF2 characterization etc? Hopefully it gets released soon.

This looks damn interesting, especially after I got addicted to TF2, the only problem is, is that I'm not really so much into 'war' games, nor the battlefield games. I'd rather play Unreal Tournament. ^^

Yeah, I'd rather play Quake Live, or these days maybe even a little UT3.  Good group of folks on QL, most of whom don't act like twelve year olds.  I thought TF2 was a spammy nightmare of a game, and god, the community... it's like Counterstrike all over again.  I don't know much about DICE and the Battlefield games, though.  Mostly heard a lot about bugs and stuff, so just avoided them outright.  This one looks like it could be fun, so hopefully it turns out well and they do a proper job squashing bugs during beta.

Lord, the community of about ever FPS that's still rather 'new' is horrible, I think in the last... 2 months? I've been blamed for having an aimbot about 8 times, a triggerbot about 3 times, a wall hack about 9 times and been called a hacker even more, over 20 times I believe. I'm seriously starting to doubt my own games, that they might have such integrated systems that I'm unaware about.

But yeah, community isn't what it used to be.

That's for sure. I'm afraid I was called a hacker once already in a BFH game, when I was playing the Commando  (a  cross between the sniper and spy of TF2). He simply could not understand how I could have appeared behind him when he had thoroughly checked there only 2 minutes ago.  :) There are some great moments though, in which everybody just had fun and ignored the score.

BFH is an even more cartoony game than TF2 - tank guns make loud "bloop" sounds whenever they shoot, it's possible to ride on the wings of planes, and a sniper can take down a plane within 6 hits.  :) Despite its comparison to TF2, BFH is a very different game. It's much more lighthearted than even Team Fortress 2 is, and has a unique feel.

It sounds like it's a video game inspired by those little toy soldiers.

I think I'll try this some time.

Monermaje, you are really digging a lot of old topics up which would've liked to rest in peace. Please stop posting in old topics.
