Early Veil Sequence Break (No Beast): Now With Video
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:40:20 pm »
Ok after a little experimentation (and resulting from my really unbiased dislike of Mithalas as a whole; great, atmospheric area, just takes too long) I've found a way to get up the current-y entrance to the Veil from Open Waters 2 without using Ekkrit.

1. Bind one of the large boulders in the little gulch on the side of the path up.
2. Drop it in one of the little 45-degree slanted tiles on the left-hand side of the upper part of that room, with the strong current in sight.
3. Get a good angle on the briar missile
4. Ride baby ride
5. Enjoy Veil without Beast

Moral of the story: Briar missile is unaffected by currents.

This opens up a whole lot of sequence-breaky speed-run-y things such as Li for Mithala.  It also opens up the speed run path [1.0]

Edit:
Video:
Home Waters
Song Cave
Energy Temple
Open Waters
Kelp Forest
Veil
Climb outside of Sun Temple, enter through the top
Grab Sun Form and exit back out the top
Abyss
Body

Anyways, Enjoy!

Very good work - unfortunately, you still need the Beast Form for the Golem boss. Version 1.0.3 fixed the gap in the Tongue through which Naija could slip, and the Beast Form is vital to opening the Body.

'Unfortunately,' because the fastest times (completed with the glitch) are now impossible to replicate.

But buggy speedruns are not really that great...

Also, justl ike in the other topic, it's called briar rocketing or something familiar, if it's too hard for you to say, copy paste it.

Edited. Apologies, I had referred to it that way only so people could search for it (I believe that's what it was referred to in its original topic by Alec)

Indeed. I don't recall Alec particularly typing the words, but he never disputes the name.

And I further complicated matters by using the other 'p' word lol And bravo for finding a way to use the rocket to get up that current :D

A video of this would be very appreciated.

Though, again, I see no use of doing the Veil before Mithalas, seeing, well, you need the beast form no matter what... at least in the later versions.

But it's still nice to figure out differen't ways of doing things and that is the beauty of Aquaria, there's nothing wrong in getting beast after the Light form for a change :)

Nice, simple video, would've thought it would be harder than that, but you make it look very easy. XD

It does look easy, but I be it isn't that easy at all. How many tries before you got that video of it see.blue?

Haha while trying to figure out if the trick was possible I got it second try .  The time I got the vid was after about 5 minutes of fumbling (and 4 successes off cam  ^-^).  The trick is to be attached to or literally touching the rock when you cast bind, otherwise you either drag the rock too far from the wall and you miss the angle or too close and it gets hung up on the wall. Once you know that its surprisingly reliable actually, give it a shot next time you're in the area

Heh, I tried it myself, I found it more easy to place the briar so that it point exactly towards the exit. Then have Naija also float between that line, with a slight distance from the tip.
Then cast bind, quickly change to nature, and hop on the tip of the briar.
I bet in the next patch that Alec will increase the distance between Naija and the something she has binded before it moves to her.
