Game Minimizes Itself...?
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:02:19 pm »
Just defeated a boss in the energy temple and got a new form for the girl to turn into (naiya??)

came back out of that temple into the area where you can enter naiyas home.
near that (in the same location) is a hole for one of those marbles(pearls) to fit in. i dragged the pearl up to the hole. bypassing the hidden octopus, activated the door using naiyas energy form and when i went through the transition (i assume to a new location) the game promptly crashed to desktop on me with no error message.

i see there is a debug-log text file in the game directory. im including the last few lines of that file because the whole thing probably wont fit in here. (can be emailed if required)

WINDOW INACTIVE means you alt-tabbed out of the window (or it somehow lost focus via another means, like maybe an instant messenging program like trillian grabbed control of the scene)

Do you remember anything like that happening, and are you sure the game wasn't still running, just minimized?

well blow me the game was minimized as you said. looking in the taskbar i see the program and naiyas sat there waiying for me to do something. good job there were no enemies around

however i did nothing to instigate it minimizing and nothing in windows is active, save kaspersky internet security and catalyst control center (but those are always running) and kaspersky is set to ignore aquaria.exe and is already updated today.

i dont have any of those chat programs like messenger etc on this computer. and there were no onscreen alerts of any kind.

ill keep an eye on it,  might just be a freak occurence.

swift response though. cool stuff.

Hitting the "Windows" key might have the same effect too. It pops up the windows menu and minimizes whatever program you're running.

There are a couple different ways to disable your Windows key if this is a recurring problem.

Note: When WINDOW INACTIVE happens, the game is paused, so there is no danger of other events occuring.

Re: [Solved] Minimizing the Window by Accident
« Reply #4 on: December 20, 2008, 03:23:00 pm »
Its happened a couple more times since.

It always happens on a transition to an area (dont know if its limited to just new areas ive not been to - but its only happened on going to new areas)

cannot be the windows key as im playing use a 360 wireless gamepad with a 360 wireless reciever and my keyboard is on the other side of the room, on a desk, with nothing touching it or near it.
the gamepad key/button settings are unalatered. they are the same as the default game has them.

when the minizmie to desktop occurence happens the windows start menu does not appear, nor does the task bar (autohide is on). you are simply dumped back to the desktop screen.

I see, interesting...

Can you reproduce it reliably? (like if you go between the same two areas, will it always happen?)

cant reproduce it at will sorry.
it seems random as the next time i enter the area that was previously affected, it doesnt do it.

but after some time of playing it will suddenly just happen. all 3 times has been when going between areas of the world (not actually in the world fighting enemies or anything)
i havent timed the length of time between, but its quite a bit of time. (its not every 5 or 10 minutes for example)

could it be related to screen savers? (they might be trying to trigger on) or monitor power saving options?
(although neither does come on when the game minimizes)

both of those are set to come on after a certain length of time (if i recall its 30mins for the screensaver and 45mins-1hr for the monitor off)

Screensavers sound like a good bet...

It sounds like something external to the game is minimizing it.

well im going to switch off everything external to the game (screensavers, pwoer saving, kaspersky etc)
and test again.
i will also try and test if theres a definite/certain time or if i can reproduce it, or if certain button combos on the wireless 360 controller make it happen(perhaps the guide button being pressed inadvertently causes it, or a button sequence gives the same affect)

so dont close this one jsut yet as ill test a bit more. unfortunately my time this afternoon is limited now as its getting towards dinner time. but i can squeeze another 30mins -1hr out of the game probably.
