ok this time i played with framebuffer effects enabled and steam overlay disabled and it crashed after around 10 to 20mins...
heres the new debug.log:
http://ensouongaku.com/animeplanet/oehr/randomness/debug.zip

i decided to zip it because its over nearly as big as 3MB...

next test will be overlay enabled and framebuffer disabled.

P.S. now using 182.05!

Holy cow!
"ACH_REACHED_OPEN_WATERS was already achieved" This line is in the file 59061 times!
I think... that this one might be the problem, even though it is only a debug line.

I also noticed that these 3 lines are in there a lot.
Code: [Select]
moneye: damage function failed
removing target from shot
Pet_Nautilus: entity died
I suppose you use the nautilus pet, have you tried not using it?
And again, did you join a certain spot and then crashed? Or is it still all random?
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

it crashed with framebuffer and steam overlay enabled all the time even without the pet.

the(se) crash(es) seemed completely random, at least this time...

now checking framebuffer disabled and overlay enabled! on my beautiful new 26" full hd 1920x1200 display. lets see if my pc is fast enough to run aquaria :D

framebuffer disabled, steam overlay enabled, 182.06

CRASH. (after 30mins to 45mins)

log: http://ensouongaku.com/animeplanet/oehr/randomness/debug2.zip (log size: 4,66MB)

IM WILLING TO HELP FIXING THIS,
but without any "official" replies i wont post anymore. also i want my money back! i dont want to pay for a buggy, all the time crashing, unplayable game. and if theres nothing to look forward to(PATCH), i dont see a reason too keep it. i wont install another OS just to play the game without bugs! its worse than the time gothic 3 was released. though there might not be visiual bugs, but it crashes way more often!

P.S. again: game crash is always caused by crashed drivers!

I'm sure Alec won't mind refunding you, but there are hundreds of other players who played the game perfectly. The game runs well on almost every other computer, and the issue is almost unique to yours. I can attest to the fact that Aquaria runs on Vista x64. Gothic 3 is a bad comparison, because it was riddled with bugs from the start. My only idea would be to downgrade your drivers, especially if you're running a beta version - that sometimes helps. Good luck! I'm sorry I can't help you more.

my brother recently switched to vista 64bit with nearly the exact same pc specs and he also has aquaria(steam). though he didnt play aquaria yet.
back on his 32bit vista it also crashed sometimes, but not that often. i think it was the same error as im getting all the time...

also here are the list of drivers i tested(all 64bit):
182.06 WHQL (best so far, tf2 also runs much smoother than before, no difference when it comes to aquaria)
182.05
185.20
181.22 WHQL (worst drivers ever, no difference when it comes to aquaria)
181.20 WHQL (worst drivers ever, no difference when it comes to aquaria)
180.84 (used mainly/only in the demoversion, cant remember for sure)

overall:
crashes with all tested drivers. all the same when it comes to aquaria.

and whql doesnt make a difference when it comes to driver. they are simply approved by microsoft and seem to have been barely tested (awful buggy performance with 181.20 and 181.22) ... so i could care less about beta and whql!

P.S. ill keep the game. if im unable to play it now, i might be able to enjoy it in 2 years. more bufixes, a fresh windows installation and maybe some new computer components...

i disabled framebuffer effects and steam overlay and i was finally able to play 2h straight without any crashes.
I know it's a comprimise that shouldn't have to be made, but it sounds like you might be able to enjoy the game if you turn both those things off again.  Thanks for being patient enough to test all those drivers (I know the whole reboot!reboot!reboot!reboot! thing isn't fun), and thanks for deciding to keep the game.  It makes me want to continue trying to help.  I'll be interested to hear how it works for your brother.

Another long shot:  Since you said the demo "didn't crash as often", I assume it did crash.  So something's making it crash, and it's not necessarily Steam.  There may be some program somewhere on your computer that is trying to pop up overlays that interact badly with Aquaria's framebuffer effects.  This might be anything from Steam to your computer's volume control to certain virus scanners.  (Maybe Aero, but I don't know anything about that.)  If the full version still crashes with the two things in the above quote disabled, and if you have any patience left, you might try finding overlays in other programs to disable.  (Just don't disable a virus scanner completely.  Find the overlay option if it has one.)

Sorry if I'm sending you on a wild goose chase here, but I'd be going through all this myself if I had the problem, knowing how good Aquaria is. :)  Or if you're tired of testing things, here's to hoping it works in the future!

I can eliminate one of those possibilities - Aero works fine with Aquaria.  :)

if i can make it work perfectly with testing and reporting, id gladly test until i die^^

none-windows apps running in bg:
firefox 3.1b2
steam
utorrent
gtalk
pidgin
rivatuner
windows enabler
avg free
logitech mouse driver tools
cherry keyboard driver tools
realtek audio driver tools
pentablet apps and driver tools
foobar2000
daemontools

i often play tf2(which does run without crashes^^) and i always use the steam overlay so it might be annoying, enabling, disabling it all the time... oh joy.

One of the first things I would suggest is to close some stuff.  We're lucky that some programs are a bit more tolerant now than were many back in the DOS and early Windows days, but that's a whole lot of stuff that could be causing you problems.  That strikes me as way too much memory-resident clutter to expect almost any game to run right.  I'd consider even half that quantity to be kind of excessive.

Sometimes it just takes experimentation.  Most of the programs probably aren't giving you issues, but all it takes is one.  *If* that's the problem, hopefully you can isolate it, but either way it's a good place to start if there isn't anything else obvious to try.

If its an ATI card, you might have to use older drivers.

Just throwing that out there cause it happened to someone else.
