German player/beginner: Completely lost... Not a clue...
« on: December 08, 2008, 06:22:39 am »
Hello,

I tried to get along by reading other beginners´ questions (and the answers), but it didn´t help. The only things my Nija can do is: Avoiding contact with hostile animals, healing herself in the blue weed (or by sleeping in her bed) and picking up items/recepies.
I have no idea how to fight or defend myself, how to manage to break out or how to create(?) a pet.
I have played other games with English descriptions (for example Eschalon Book 1), but I have never had such problems.
Isn´t it possible to give some general instructions how to play the game? Some general clue? On the help pages - those you can look up while playing - I haven´t found any instructions about how to gain fighting skills etc.
The game seems to be quite funny and interesting, but after swimming around for six hours without any progress is rather frustrating. PLEASE HELP!
Thank you! Waterlily (ulrike.bliefert@berlin.de).

Remember, Aquaria is a very nonlinear game. You won't hear many blatant instructions, and only when you need them. If you want to (or are, but don't) wander around aimlessly, Aquaria will let you. Explore everything, and watch closely. (And ask Xiagan if it language is a barrier)

#1: First way to defend yourself.

Sing west northeast, west northeast to use the shield song. Now enemy shots won't hurt you (but their bodies will)

#2: Second way to defend yourself.

Travel all the way down until you come to a series of twisting caves that travels to another map downwards and right. Thoroughly explore the map there. You will find a series of symbols on the wall - those you need to sing at a spiral statue / door in the middle of the map. Once you do so, the door will open to the place where you get the bind spell. The spell allows you to pick up rocks and drag them into enemies.

#3: Third way to defend yourself.

Once you have the bind spell, explore the corners of Home Waters again until you find a vertical tunnel blocked by a rock. This leads to a boss where you will get the energy form, which allows you to shoot.

Once you have the energy form, you will be able to go to another place blocked by a rock and get a pet by defeating the boss there.

Good luck! (And don't post your email address there, spammers will be on to it like flies).  :)

Lol... As you get further on in the game, it gets bigger and bigger, so get prepared for a LOT more exploring.

But... Have you double clicked the little map at the bottom right of the screen? That can be very helpful when lost.
To ensure you hit the target, shoot first, then call whatever you hit 'the target'.

Hello
and thank you very much for your support! I use the map and I have learned to remove rocks, but I still haven´t got a GENERAL idea of how to interact or deal with things like darkness and strong undercurrents. In the energy temple - for example - I simply have not a clue how to move on or how to avoid being shot. Maybe I´m too used to my little Eschalon-Hero, who deals with simple human stuff like swords and apples und never, never acts underwater ;o)))
Anyway: Your advice has been helpful!
Bye; I do my best to go on! Waterlily

For darkness and undercurrents: don't try until later. Later, you'll receive two new forms that allow you to travel in these areas. To avoid being shot, try the shield form or better dodging, idk.  :)

Yeah, and if you see tiny little passages that you can't swim through, don't worry about those either. It will all come later.

Thank you again.
Now have a good laugh:
I have been in the engergy temple a dozen times and each time I had to wait until I was "dead", because I didn´t manage to do ANYTHING in that f...  underwater dungeon! I waited: Nothing happened but flying symbols. I sang like a bird: The shield-song, the binding and the entrance-song to the spiral, the sound of each flying symbol...
Nothing!
I mean: This cute little creature has gathered a lot of cooking stuff, but the food only helps if you are wounded. There are some nondescript bulbs, but I have no idea what they are needed for and don´t want to waste them.

I seriously doubt my intellectual skills...
On the verge of giving up...

Have you seen a lot of small black-ish gray statues with large holes in them? See if there is anything that looks the same shape as those holes. If you have seen closed doors with full statues in front of them, then charge your energy form shot (hold down the right mouse button for 3 seconds then release) then fire at them. If you still can't find how to open the empty statues then: pearls, one in the hand of a god statue and the other trapped behind a collapsed pillar.. Good luck!  A little round about, but still helps.  :)

Sing each note the statue sings and then dodge the resulting shots and then sing the next note, this happens one at a time until the statue breaks and then Naija gets energy form. :) It took me a few goes until I got it right so don't give up yet waterlilly :D
