Miscellaneous questions
« on: November 30, 2008, 05:51:06 am »

1) Is the writing I see on the walls an actual alphabet? I'm interested to try cracking it, but only if, you know, it's an actual thing and not just random squiggles. ;P

2) What are the blue bulbs?! I've found a couple, and they make a weird little symbol on my map. I.. assume they're maybe some kind of warp? Do you get a song for them later? Mousing over them doesn't bring up any kind of interaction, and I haven't got a "I wonder what these are" monologue bit or anything.

3) With modding, can I make Naija's forms into actual animals (i'm thinking of a sharkopath, from The Future is Wild, for beast form..) or is everything always going to be a kind of humanoid hybrid form?

4) The giant dark jellyfish in Minthalas: can these be defeated? If yes, is there any POINT in doing so?

The writing on the walls is indeed an actual alphabet, and there are two methods of reading it: either go to this link, or use the menu buttons (at start up) and Naija's translations of in-game text.

The blue bulbs are accessible with the charged shot of the nature form found in the top left corner of Aquaria (from the open waters map). Just explore Aquaria thoroughly and you'll find the Kelp Forest (the form's location).

3) With modding, can I make Naija's forms into actual animals (i'm thinking of a sharkopath, from The Future is Wild, for beast form..) or is everything always going to be a kind of humanoid hybrid form?

ChimeraThing was talking about a similar mod on this topic. He's the guy to go to.  :)

4) The giant dark jellyfish in Minthalas: can these be defeated? If yes, is there any POINT in doing so?

The giant dark jellyfish in Mithalas cannot be defeated (Glamador tried holding on to the creatures with urchin form for a whole night and nothing happened).

Hope those helped! It took me a long time to set the post up well.  ;)

...okay, some more.

4) What's the point of Li? When I first found him, there was a bit where it suggested he'd be used in some puzzles, but.. I've found exactly nothing so far (am now in the Abyss).

5) Is there a land or air form or costume? Two or three times now I've managed some ridiculous wall/platform jumping that.. I think I probably shouldn't have been able to. Plus I wind up finding a song plant, stuff comes out, but I can't -get- any of it because I wind up leaping halfway across the screen (and sometimes more than that, and by the time I get back UP THERE it's freaking gone.. so mad!)

6) King Jellyfish?! What the hell, man. =( It's the only objective-like thing I've found in the whole damn Abyss (aside from a place I can't pass due to steam) and he spits out a billion jellyfish and I die arghahrgahrgahrgharg.

7) How do you ride seahorses? I can interact with them, but they don't go anywhere. Costume?

Li is central to the story later in the game.

Unfortunately not: lots of people have had trouble with that, although I haven't. The getting-items problem is particularly annoying - using up a couple of speed soups to reach a rook's egg, defeating the rook, then overshooting the egg.  >:D  :)

The way to beat King Jellyfish is to spam the creature's eye while eating the spawn with beast form every once in a while. Some people have said that the spider roll really helps here. (IDK the recipe)

Haha, I had the same problem: there was a horse next to a moneye nest. I grabbed onto it, then realized I didn't know how to use it. You can imagine what happened next.  ;D

You can pass steam with the spirit form you find in Mithalas.

There are more things to find in the abyss besides the Jellyfish boss. You do have sun form, right?

You right click the seahorses in normal form and then steer them through singing. The horse goes in the direction of the note you sing.

I didn't know about riding seahorses until well into the game either, then I went and molested every sea creature out there with verse to see what happens  :D
Ellie: Are they from the future too?
Sawyer: You told her?

...er? I got a Beast Form in Mithalas. Is there something else around there?

Yes. King Jellyfish is the only thing I've found, apart from some steam-blocked areas, and some tunnels that are too small for me to go through. And I've mapped out everything else I can.

If King Jellyfish is a required boss, I think I may quit the game right now and say to hell with it. This is ridiculously hard, and I'm sick and tired of having to swim the same damn stretch over and over to get back there.

King Jellyfish is an optional boss, but he gives you a suit which almost locks your health at the halfway point (so it is only useful if you have retrieved most or all of the health eggs.

I suspect that you have only explored one half of the Abyss: try swimming as far as you can to the right: there is another part there.

It seems as if you missed two forms: Fish form deep in the Kelp Forest and Spirit Form in the North of Mithalas. One is for small passages, the other for steam blocked. Both will help you a great deal with the game. :)

I don't think I've even found a Kelp Forest yet.

I'm pretty sure I've poked all around the Abyss but.. maybe not. I'm just glad I can skip the dang jellyfish; that brightens my mood considerably. =p Maybe I'll come back towards the end of the game when I've got more stuff.

Question!

8) "Rotten" food: is there some way to de-toxify these?

Unfortunately not: once your food is poisoned, it's inedible for good (unless used in Zuna's Perogi). This recipe poisons you but gives you the most powerful energy-form shot The only time I ever used it was against the Creator's second form, during which I was almost always poisoned anyway.  :)

The Kelp Forest is North/Northwest of Open Waters. Not that hard to find, actually. ;)
