There's nothing wrong with the patch. You appear to be trying to run the aquaria.exe file from inside the ZIP, which won't work. You have to follow the instructions that accompanied the patch link. This is what you do:

(Note: These instructions assume that you've got Windows set up to show file extensions. If not, instead of seeing a file named "aquaria.exe", for example, it will just say "aquaria".)

  • Right-click on this link and select "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." (depending on your browser).
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Unzip it. You'll get two files: aquaria.exe and data.001. Leave them on the desktop for now.
  • You can delete the ZIP file now.
  • Open your Aquaria install folder (probably c:\program files\aquaria\).
  • Rename aquaria.exe to aquaria-backup.exe or something similar. This is a backup in case something goes wrong. If everything works when you're done patching, you can delete the backup file.
  • Move the aquaria.exe and data.001 files from your desktop to the Aquaria install folder. It will ask if you want to replace data.001. Say yes.
  • Aquaria is now patched.

ok i did all the things that you said but,
should i open aquaria from the back-up file or from the file that was in the desktop, i tried both of them- when i tried to open aquaria from the back-up it said to me-This program requires a security key. If you have one, select OK to enter it. After entering a valid key, you will not be prompted again.
and when i tried to open it from the back-up file the game was acting strang the colores has been change and the problem was still there!
what should i do??

If you followed the instructions, you should no longer have an aquaria.exe file on your desktop, since that file would have been moved into your Aquaria folder. Once you are done patching, you can run Aquaria the same way as normal, by selecting it from the Start menu. If it works, you can delete the aquaria-backup.exe file from the Aquaria folder. If it doesn't, you can at least get back to the way it was before by deleting the aquaria.exe file and renaming the aquaria-backup.exe file back to aquaria.exe.

If you're concerned that you might have messed something up, you can always save a copy your save game files (found at c:\program files\aquaria\save, except in Windows Vista), then uninstall and reinstall Aquaria. Then try the patch again and copy your save game files back into the save folder.

At this point, if you aren't able to get it working, Alec or Derek will have to help you. I don't have anything to do with Bit Blot.

Alec and Derek, maybe the upcoming 1.1 patch could come in the form of an EXE that will locate and patch the game for you, instead of relying on the user to drop the files in the right place themselves. While the instructions for the patch seemed pretty straightforward to me, an EXE that would just do it for you would prevent anyone from having the problem in the first place.

Well, since you bought the game, you do have a key, right? Right?

Assuming that the key message is coming from Aquaria itself (a casual Google search seems to indicate that Dragon Naturally Speaking brings it up a lot), giving you way to run the game without providing the key (assuming there even is one) would have the side effect of informing others how to pirate the game, and I'd imagine that Alec and Derek wouldn't be very keen on that. If you've lost your key, I'd suggest contacting Alec or Derek and providing them with whatever information you can that would allow them to confirm your order (such as a copy of your order confirmation email). Once that's done, I'm fairly certain that they can give you your key again.

Perhaps it might be best if you save the email it arrives in in a special folder also? I made one folder just to keep such emails in so I now always know where to look for such things as forum passwords etc.
It's also a good idea to burn them onto a disc if you can..

Just ask Alec to send your key to the same e-mail the game was ordered from.  I can't imagine you having this much trouble with this, unless you're just a complete novice with modern computers.

This...game...ROCKS!

you would have received the key via email and doing a search inside your email program for the keyword Aquaria would bring it up unless you deleted it. I'm totally assuming here that you don't empty your deleted items folder in whatever email program you are using (1) so you can check there too. if that fails, like mentioned above you can retrieve it from Alec by emailing him and he'd be sure to have a record of it if you are using the same email address now as you are now.

(1) running a program out of a zip and not keeping records of security keys indicate novice computer usage, nothing to be ashamed of but people leap to assumptions, one of my earlier ones was that you were actually some sort of sophisticated robot testing people's charity and hospitiality indexes but I ruled that out in favour of some other theories
