Aquaria Crashes on Start
« on: November 23, 2011, 05:45:07 am »
Just bought Aquaria in the most recent Humble Bundle and am having trouble getting it started, running it through Steam. When I start Aquaria, it goes to a white screen, freezes, then crashes. I have tried playing with all the graphics settings (fullscreen, vsync, frame buffer, etc) to no avail. It seems like it is a graphics related problem - when I run the game in windowed mode, I can see a popup that says that an AMD driver or such has crashed and recovered. The debug.log shows nothing, stopping on Setting Vsync: 1...

I'm playing on a Macbook Pro 2010 with BootCamp that I purchased this summer (so it's running a Radeon HD6770M I think). If there's any other info about my system or my problem that you think might help resolve this, I can provide it! Thanks in advance for your help.

Worst case, I'll just download it separately and play on my Mac partition, but it would be nice to run it through Steam.

There have been other cases of random graphics-related crashes i have read about on this forum... but except "update graphics drivers" there wasn't much. So maybe try that first if you haven't already.
Does it work for other games? OpenGL ones?

Since you mentioned BootCamp, i assume you are trying to run it on windows?

Btw, I'd say screw steam, nobody really needs that. Go for an open source build instead, or even better, build it yourself. Then you can at least debug it to the exact line where it crashes, which helps everyone, knowing whats wrong.

The only thing Steam is good for is achievements. As False.Genesis said, get a native Mac OS build. There's one on your HIB download page if you don't want to build your own.
