haha check out the Aquaria discussion over here
« on: December 12, 2007, 11:26:03 am »
Loving the game so much, so decided to post a topic about it on the Whirlpool forums (A rather large Australian forum focusing on technology, mainly ISP's) anyway, so far a number of people have been won over, I'm hoping a few of them decide to buy it! The PC game board on this forum is rather slow, but the topic has managed to stay ontop for two days now.

Seems Aquaria is building itself a bit of an Aussie fanbase :P It's really great to see such a well developed indy game getting the appreciation it deserves, I'm hoping sales numbers have been nice! Be interested to see how they're going!

That's what I wanted to say too... Or is it just the wrong link and you can visit the forums as a guest too?

damn your right, acctually I had thought the whole of the WP forums were available to guests, but it would seem the "lounge" area which includes boards for games, music, movies etc are for some reason unavailable. Anyway, if anyones interested here's some of the opinions from them:

"Wow. Absolutely beautiful game, pretty much perfect execution in all areas. Very very slick indeed.

The only thing i could criticise is the lack of resolution options for widescreen..i mean, what the hell is 1400x1050 supposed to be? It bunches up on one side of the screen and shows the engine drawing the level in.

Other than that, definitely AMAZING :)"

"Well I'm downloading the demo too for after work. It looks rather splendid.

I had a look at this trailer too

www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqY9mDOw-UI&NR=1

You hear the voice talent... and the music is excellent. The coder/musician is - I would guess - a Mike Oldfield fan. (Reminds me of early Oldfield)

Love it."

"Grabbing the demo at the moment. I watched the trailer and it does look very interesting. :) Seeing wonderfully artistic games such as these makes me wish I had an artistic thumb all the more. :)

If I enjoy it, I won't mind footing the $30 bill. :)"

"thats mad (watched the video)
downloading now!"

"that was mad!

the sound is AWESOME
the graphics are pretty good, nearly AWESOME
the idea is BRILLIANT!
the originality is ORIGINAL!
story was BLOODY BEAUTIFUL!

its like something ive never played before
reminded me of playing insaniquarium day and night
had that sense of a good feeling
the story was heaps good
how yu change to that evil person was cool
i liked it

i give it 9.5/10 or an indie game"

this here is probably most negetive comment so far

"OK

My thoughts, looks really nice, very original, voice acting is good. Story looks like it would be quite a bit of fun. The music is dreamy and slow. There's also some pretty original concepts in there, with the singing and so on.

Reminds me a lot of the Popcap games, even artistically. The underwater world is, at least for a 2d game, quite stunning.

Alas the gameplay tired quickly for me, I didn't finish the demo.

Nonetheless if your looking for a 2d game that looks wonderful, sounds great and has positive overtones this is probably it."

So yah, keep in mind these people are generally PC gamers, however none of them have really been following Aquaria like alot of us have, this is kind of the first time they've heard of it, so it's great to see that people are getting so interested just from the trailer. Those who have downloaded it generally seem to be loving it. Alot of the posters have been downloading the demo but haven't gotten back yet on how they found it, if anyones interested I'll post here again with some of the opinions once everyones given the game a shot.

Although who knows, they probably already took the $30 plunge and now won't be back for a while :P Oh and within the first page we got a "There needs to be a Wii Version of that." response, everyone wants it lol

Other than the widescreen issue and some other minor bugs I haven't heard a single negative opinion about this game. The news just keeps flooding it! :D
