Gaint Octopus Boss help

I know it's an optional boss, but I still want to beat it. 

None of my attacks seem to do any damage at all.  Energy form fireballs do nothing.  Beast form shots do nothing, and besides, there's only ink shots available in the room.  The octopus' shots are incredibly painful to be hit by, and due to all the ink, you need to be in sun form a lot anyway.  There isn't any rocks in the room to drop on it, and bind doesn't get anything in the room, not even the smaller octopi.

I have no idea how to crack this nut.  I have energy, beast, sun, fish, and nature forms.

Sometimes the only option left is to get up close and personal.

What, with beast form?  Biting it in the mouth doesn't seem to be doing anything either... I hear a bite noise, but then I get hurt.  In the beak, in the eye, in the tentacle... doesn't matter.  I get hurt, and then I die after using up all my healing stuff.  And having to switch to sun form frequently doesn't help either.

Get real close to it's beak. Notice anything change?

If not then you either need glasses or you're glitched. If so, shoot it.

I did notice that.  I have to SHOOT that?  Oh my god.  I'm going to die so much trying to beat this thing.

Not really that difficult. When I gave up trying to do it cleanly I just switched to energy form, dart in, dart out, shoot shoot, dart in, dart out, shoot shoot. Don't try to dodge anything (except the tentacle) or even kill the squid, you'll always be close enough to the octopus to see it even in blind mode.

All you need to do is switch to sun form now and then to turn the lights back on, and heal with those eyeball cakes (or even better the blue tough cakes for added defence). The only thing you'll be getting hit by is the energy balls, and while they hurt if you dart in/out quick enough he rarely has time to do them.

Then again I did beat this guy pretty much right at the end, I already had all the health eggs etc :/.

Well, you run the risk of getting hit by the tentacle...

Really, though, you can mostly ignore the little squids, since they just blind you.

There's actually a sneaky way you can do this...while taking a good bit of damage in the process.

Get about halfway down the length his tentacle can reach, and hit the floor - you should see him constantly revealing that jewel.  Chow down on a volcano roll, and fire away.  While his tentacle WILL hit you, it won't grab you, so you can shoot him all the while; just keep plugging away, and bring some regen items to keep yourself from dying.

Probably easier after you get all the verse eggs, though...

lol, i found that you could hide either behind him or behind the brain coral on the floor and you'd be safe from pretty much everything apart from the fact that you couldnt kill him/her from there.

Same for the rest of the whole map but his cave.
