Demo = Fail
« on: December 10, 2007, 04:27:59 am »
So well the demo flat out doesn't work.. See attached screenshot.

The bit-blot logo is fine, and the small scene right after that is fine, but the menu is what's shown in the screenshot.

Windows Vista Business 32bit
Intel Dual Core 2ghz
2gb ram
Radeon Mobility X1400

I've got the latest drivers. Everything is default in Catalyst Control Center, I've tried other options as well to see if that made any difference.

Tried multiple settings for running the game in the configuration. With all the lowest possible settings it still does it, windowed or fullscreen.

Demo = fail

A friend of mine had a similar problem, though not identical.  But he has an nvidia card.  Anyway, he was using beta drivers.  Rolling them back to the last official release solved the problem.  I doubt this will help you, but it's worth mentioning just in case.

Do you have the latest ATI drivers?

As I said in my original post, I do.

I noticed someone else posted after me with the same problem, with a similar video card.

I've never had any graphical problems with games before, and I've played quite a few graphically intense games with this pc.

Ah, sorry I didn't see that.

That's unfortunate, and I'm not quite sure what we can do about it, seeing as the game works fine on XP and some other Vista installs just fine.

Maybe I can look up your card and see if the OpenGL support is at the same point that the other cards are.

Looks like the mobility Vista drivers may be a version behind.

Ok well no aquaria then.

I'm just surprised because I've never had any problems with any other games ever.

Do you play other games that use OpenGL on your system?

I think the problem is the "dark layer".

There's a special blend effect used for it that may not be supported by those drivers yet. (hence it looks like random garbage)

I could probably disable it and you'd be able to play the demo, but for areas in the rest of the full game its important that it stays on.

In any case, it seems like something that'll be supported once the new drivers come out.

I'm going to try out that link someone else posted for the mobility mod tool and see if that works or makes any difference.
