£10k grants on offer for PSN projects

Please please please consider making a version of Aquaria for the PSN. I remember reading in the faq you guys would be interested in console versions, this seems like a good way to do it! Sony are very good at accepting unique, stylised games onto the PSN, I can imagine Aquaria sitting happily next to Flower in the PS Store. And the thought of all that beautiful scenery in HD! The analogue stick would be perfect for Naija's songs too.

Anyway, I'm sure as an indie development company you have your own idea on how you want to progress, whether it be getting as big as possible or staying true to roots. I am just registering my interest in playing such a fantastic game in the best possible way for me personally. Hopefully yourself and other fans think this is a good idea, and declare their desire as well.

Thank you for such a wonderful game!

I wouldn't mind seeing a PSN port happen - I just don't want to be the one that has to do the work of porting it. :)

(too many other things going on for me right now)

I think it's a fantastic idea.  Somebody who actually knows how to do this stuff should totally do it.  Sadly, that is not I.

Microsoft's Live Arcade is another option if Alec wants to port Aquaria. Braid has had good success on the platform.

Speaking of ports, Alec-- I run the company Bitstudio Games (http://www.bitstudio.com/). I've been in love with Aquaria ever since launch (you'll notice I was one of the over-excited people that asked where it was on release day.. lol). Anyway, we have the abilities to port the game to the Android OS (Google Phones) and was wondering if you were interested in talking about it. Just send me a private message, I'm in Australia right now so the time difference will limit my reply to late your time.

Cheers!

Hmm.  A port would require some alteration of the control scheme -- no mouse pointer!

For the Dual Shock, you might want something like:

  • D-pad to control singing
  • One analog stick for movement (including the spin command)
  • Other stick for "look"
  • One button for "interact with objects near me"
  • Second button to access the menus
  • Third button to access the map
  • Fourth button is "fire weapon" (and hold down to sing or charge weapon)
