Problem with sun form and Octopus Prime
« on: May 20, 2009, 07:37:32 am »
I'm going for the Dumbo Octopus but every time I engage the Octopus mini-boss the screen goes black with squid ink and when I switch to sun form the screen is still totally black. How do you fight this guy in the dark? Even charging sun form does nothing. Sheesh!

Charging the Sun Form DOES work, you just have to hold it pretty long, until you hear the sound.
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

Okay, I'll give it another shot, thanks. There's a flash of light but just darkness after. I was wondering if a sight poultice would help......when I give up and swim out, then you can see she's in sun form, but it doesn't seem to work next to the slobby Octopus. Hmmmmmm...

Being in sun form is not enough, you need to use the sun form's charged "attack." It works just like the charged attack from energy form, except you don't do any damage. it just leaves a big sphere of light that lasts for a number of seconds. (try it in the abbys) In the Octomom room, this will instead dispel the octopus created darkness.

For what it is worth, the quick and dirty way to beat her, is to just grab the floor right in front of Octomom, barely out of reach of his grab, but within reach of his slap. Just eat the damage she does to you, and keep firing at her weak spot. Once she is dead, you have all the time in the world to dispel the darkness.

Whoa, thanks, I'll give it a shot. Tried shooting briars into his mouth; no effect. I've tried this battle several times; only saw the "nut" or tongue once. Yeah, I've tried just sitting there on the floor and firing in the dark but maybe I didn't do it long enough. After about twenty minutes I just get tired. Probably not that long. Thanks for the help!

Okay, I tried sitting in front of him/her and spamming with lots of plus two energy shots and plus three defense food and went through more than half of my supply sitting there in the dark, getting weaker and weaker with no effect. Sheesh! This guy is tough. Also tried throwing briers at him/her; no effect. Slightly annoying to read how easy to kill s/he is, cause it ain't happenin' for me.....

You need to shoot her weak spot, and only her weak spot. If you can't hit it, then shooting is useless, so safe your food and energy.

Use energy form, sit close enough and her weak spot will show. then just stay there and keep shooting. (and eat some healing food when your HP run low)
The weak spot only shows if you are close enough, and even then it sometimes goes away, but if you remain close enough it will come out again a few seconds later.

The sound that a hit will give you indicates whether you've hit her weak spot or her indestructible part. If you hear the indestructible sound all the time you are doing it wrong. Firing endlessly at the indestructible part is completely useless.

Okay, that's great; really specific advice, thanks, SevenMass. Yeah, I noticed that sort of clanging sound that tells you your shots are hitting something sort of metallic. I will foray once more into the breech, but more carefully. I don't see the tongue all that often, and the minute I shoot at it she retracts it. I am fighting a war on several fronts; still playing in the whale (ugh) and the ice bubble cave looking for the health upgrades. Maybe the jelly armor I got yesterday will help with Octopus Prime. I had way less trouble with the sun worm than this guy!
