Oh, well I didn't know what to do when I was up the the big cave under the cathedral, but I fought the big zombie guy and got Beast form.
And I figured out my second question, which was why can the Beast form shoot yellow balls, which the game told me.

It doesn't shoot only yellow balls.
As a matter of fact, everytime you 'eat' a creature which has the ability to shoot projectiles, you earn this ability. (Right-click to use it)
However, you have ammos (You cannot shoot as many projectiles as you want).
