Mirror's Edge
« on: May 13, 2009, 06:00:53 am »

Mirror's Edge is a 3d adventure-platformer game by EA and Dice.  It's uniqueness comes from it's focus on getting through the environment (obstacles and such) instead of combat (although other games have also been coming out lately with a similar focus; see Portal) . It didn't sound like anything special until I went and checked out a few gameplay videos on youtube. First of all, let me say that the atmosphere is amazing. The sleek, polished looking buildings reaching enormous heights and the street sounds below really deliver a feeling of the government-controlled utopian city that the game is set in. The footsteps and panting of the character as she runs through this world really draw you in, make you feel like you are the runner. Controls-wise, the game is as simple as the 2-d platforming games of our youth, and it is at it's core, a platformer. Unfortunately, this game is only for xbox 360 and ps3, but fortunately for us computer people, there is a flash version of this game online, and I found it quite fun. I'm probably not the only one who's heard of this one, so what do you guys think?

I got it not to long ago, and finished it last week.

My eyes are still sore from the violently excessive bloom, but otherwise it was a blast.

Oh, and there is a PC version. It's only $20 on Steam.
Trailer for anyone who wants to see it.

Couldn't play it. The moment I ran into Celeste in the tutorial my FPS hit unplayably low levels, even though it was smooth up to that point.

Yes, it can be a bit of a monster, sometimes.

Turning off PhysX is a must, and at my resolution the graphics are still quite stunning at their lowest setting.

Ah, it seems there is a PC version. Gonna go get that as soon as I can.

Yeah, I finished the PC version a long time ago, wasn't that excited about this game, 2D game isn't that much better, I personally never liked Fancy Pants Adventures, too many split second timings to get on somewhere.

Also just finished the first level on the 2D one and it said I missed 2 while I was certain I didn't miss a single one. (I reran everything twice)
God sees and knows everything, but at least he won't gossip about it.

There are some that are quite easy to miss, so I wouldn't exclude that possibility.

Looks like I won't be playing it anytime soon, cause my crappy ol' computer can't handle it. I need an upgrade. I can just keep myself entertained with the 2-d version for now. I'm pretty excited about this game because it's pretty easy to catch on and do things, and it would be really stress-relieving for me.
